Consequently, Strip <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Mirage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-16128\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Mirage-300x189.jpg\" alt=\"Mirage\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Mirage-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Mirage-150x95.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Mirage.jpg 625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>revenues fell 5% in October, grossing $494 million. Still, &#8220;volume trends were largely in line with our estimates,&#8221; wrote <strong>Deutsche Bank<\/strong> analyst <strong>Carlo Santarelli<\/strong>, including a 9% drop in the volume of baccarat play (compounded by a 19.5% decrease in winnings) and a 3% increase in all other table game play, which failed to stave off a 10.5% drop in winnings. (Interestingly, &#8220;card games&#8221; &#8212; i.e., poker &#8212; are now being folded into table game results.) <strong>JP Morgan<\/strong> analyst <strong>Joseph Greff<\/strong> added that &#8220;we expect the market to <!--more-->continue experiencing volatility in baccarat play given a likely slowdown in Chinese players.&#8221; Strip slot revenues were flat, with 1% less coin-in. Baccarat play was particularly poor when you consider that Strip casinos got taken to the cleaners a year ago, down 35.5%.<\/p>\n<p>Statewide, gaming revenues did better, down only 3%. Downtown <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> fell 6.5% while <strong>North Las Vegas<\/strong> slipped 4% and the <strong>Boulder Strip<\/strong> also dropped 6.5%. Outlying jurisdictions generally did better, excepting a 3% dip in <strong>Lake Tahoe<\/strong>. <strong>Reno<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rgj.com\/story\/money\/gaming\/2015\/11\/30\/reno-sparks-casinos-gains-october-gaming-win\/76569434\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">was up 6%<\/a>, <strong>Laughlin<\/strong> was flat and outer <strong>Clark County<\/strong> was up 2.5%. Locals play upstate was especially robust with <strong>Elko<\/strong> reporting an 8% increase and <strong>Carson Valley<\/strong> a 9% one.<\/p>\n<p>* Whatever the Strip&#8217;s problems might be, they paled in comparison to <strong>Macao<\/strong>&#8216;s, where casino underachieved <strong>Wall Street<\/strong>&#8216;s consensus prediction of a 27.5% decline in November, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-12-01\/macau-casino-revenue-falls-32-as-china-curbs-hit-vip-gambling\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">plummeting 32%<\/a>. Worse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Studio-City-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-17136\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Studio-City-2-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"Studio City 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Studio-City-2-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Studio-City-2-150x98.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Studio-City-2.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>still, <a href=\"http:\/\/casinodesignmagazine.com\/issue\/casino-design-2015\/article\/thats-entertainment\" target=\"_blank\">any &#8216;built it and they will come&#8217; impact<\/a> from <strong>Studio City Macau<\/strong> was &#8220;largely indiscernible,&#8221; according to Santarelli. So, while it was hoped that the curve of Macao&#8217;s decline would start to shallow, it continues to be steep. Wall Street analysts are responding with optimism, predicting 25% declines in December. At this point, such an occurrence would seem to border on the miraculous.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> led market share for table games, with 24%, followed by <strong>Sociedade de Jogos de Macau<\/strong> with 22%, <strong>Galaxy Entertainment<\/strong> with 21%, <strong>Melco Crown Entertainment<\/strong> with a very disappointing 15%, <strong>MGM Grand Paradise<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Wynn Macau<\/strong> with 9% each. Macanese operators &#8212; and Las Vegas ones <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/asian-casinos-no-rival-to-macau-among-chinese-mass-ubs\/\" target=\"_blank\">could take comfort<\/a> from a <strong>UBS Securities Asia<\/strong> survey which reported,\u00a0\u201cBase mass gamblers\u2019 awareness of and intention to visit Asian casinos are mediocre, according to our survey. However, the interest in Las Vegas casinos appears high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Dan Gilbert<\/strong> needs to hire a new armored-car service for <strong>Greektown Hotel-Casino<\/strong>. An audacious thief <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation-now\/2015\/11\/27\/theft-cash-armored-truck\/76459652\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">simply walked off with $500,000 in broad daylight<\/a> while the security truck sat outside the casino. His trick? He wore a uniform shirt, leading the truck&#8217;s drive to assume he was a security guard. I can think of one person in Detroit who&#8217;s probably having to look for a new job this week.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> is to be commended for thinking a little outside the box for <strong>MGM National Harbor<\/strong>, at least when it comes to cooking. Yes, <strong>Jose Andres<\/strong> is a name familiar to Las Vegas foodies but for National Harbor he will turn entire focus\u00a0to seafood for the first time. Other celebrity chefs haven&#8217;t been exposed on the Strip yet. One is <strong>Marcus Samuelsson<\/strong>, of <strong>Harlem<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Red Rooster<\/strong>, and the other two are siblings and <strong>Maryland<\/strong> natives\u00a0<strong>Bryan<\/strong> and <strong>Michael Voltaggio<\/strong>, familiar from <em>Top Chef<\/em> but collaborating for the first time (on, they just had to have one, a steakhouse). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/going-out-guide\/wp\/2015\/11\/30\/mgm-national-harbor-casino-will-feature-restaurants-by-the-voltaggio-brothers-jose-andres-and-marcus-samuelsson\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">Will sparks fly in the kitchen<\/a>?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was Las Vegas Strip casinos&#8217; bad luck to have Oct. 31 fall on a Saturday, meaning that revenues (particularly from slots) from that weekend won&#8217;t be reported until the end of November.
