Add <strong>Tilman Fertitta<\/strong>&#8216;s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/GoldenNugget-Lake-Charles.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15468\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/GoldenNugget-Lake-Charles.jpg\" alt=\"GoldenNugget Lake Charles\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/GoldenNugget-Lake-Charles.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/GoldenNugget-Lake-Charles-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a>showplace, which grossed $20 million, and you have a 15% increase in the <strong>Lake Charles<\/strong> market. But, as good as that was, something was very wrong at <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>L&#8217;Auberge Lake Charles<\/strong> ($24 million), where revenues plummeted 26%. <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong> also took a big bite out of <strong>Isle Grand Palais<\/strong> ($10 million), where revenue fell 16%. Still, at $68 million, Lake Charles was comfortably the premier market in the Pelican State.<\/p>\n<p>Pinnacle&#8217;s Lake Charles problem didn&#8217;t replicate itself in <strong>Baton Rouge<\/strong>, where <strong>L&#8217;Auberge Baton Rouge<\/strong> was up 20%, grossing <!--more-->$14 million. Well behind were <strong>Tropicana Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Belle of Baton Rouge<\/strong> ($4 million, -7%) and <strong>Gaming &amp; Leisure Properties Inc<\/strong>.&#8217;s <strong>Hollywood Baton Rouge<\/strong> ($5 million, flat).<\/p>\n<p>In the crowded <strong>Shreveport<\/strong> market, <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> both led (<strong>Horseshoe Bossier City<\/strong>, $16 million, +13%) and lagged (<strong>Louisiana <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Horseshoe-Bossier.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-16112\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Horseshoe-Bossier.jpg\" alt=\"Horseshoe Bossier\" width=\"192\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Horseshoe-Bossier.jpg 192w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Horseshoe-Bossier-110x150.jpg 110w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 192px) 100vw, 192px\" \/><\/a>Downs<\/strong>, $3 million, -22.5%) the competition, although privately held <strong>Diamond<\/strong> <strong>Jacks<\/strong> ($4 million, -18%) had a hard time\u00a0of it, too. Even <strong>Eldorado Resorts<\/strong>&#8216; normally reliable, eponymous riverboat disappointed, down 2% on a $10 million gross.<\/p>\n<p>Although <strong>Harrah&#8217;s New Orleans<\/strong> seemed to have shrugged off the effects of the Crescent City&#8217;s smoking ban, problems were back with a vengeance, as revenues ($23 million) were down 15%. <strong>Churchill Downs<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Fair Grounds<\/strong> racino also let smoke get in its eyes, with business down 9% on a $3 million gross. Beneficiaries were <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Treasure Chest<\/strong> ($8 million, +5%) and Pinnacle&#8217;s <strong>Boomtown New Orleans<\/strong> ($9 million, +5%). It was still a rough month for Pinnacle, as <strong>Boomtown Bossier City<\/strong> dipped 4% on a $5 million gross.<\/p>\n<p>Boyd was not so fortunate\u00a0outside <strong>New Orleans<\/strong>. Upstate, <strong>Sam&#8217;s Town Shreveport<\/strong> was down 13% on a $6 million gross. Similar stories were to be had at <strong>Delta Downs<\/strong> ($14 million, -5%), <strong>Amelia Belle<\/strong> ($4 million, -12%) and <strong>Evangeline Downs<\/strong> ($7 million, -1%). Despite that and other tales of adversity, <strong>Louisiana<\/strong> gaming revenues came out 3% ahead for the month. Whatever else it&#8217;s done, Golden Nugget has grown the market, thanks in part no doubt to owner <strong>Tilman Fertitta<\/strong>&#8216;s deep roots in the <strong>Houston<\/strong> customer base.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Better Late\u00a0Than Never\u00a0Dept<\/strong>. They waited until the poker wave had crested, but <strong>Twin River Casino<\/strong> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardplayer.com\/poker-news\/19746-rhode-island-casino-opens-poker-room\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">finally adding the game to its repertory<\/a> of offerings. You get your choice of 16 tables and either Texas Hold &#8217;em on seven-card stud. That&#8217;s it. Twin River\u00a0could have added the games at least three years ago, so I&#8217;m not sure what the holdup was. Anyway, if you can&#8217;t sleep on the weekend, Twin River&#8217;s poker room will be open all night.<\/p>\n<p>* While it fiddles around the edges of <strong>Resorts World Las Vegas<\/strong>, developer <strong>Genting Group<\/strong> hasn&#8217;t been wholly idle. It&#8217;s set up a subsidiary, <strong>Genting Assets<\/strong>, which has 28 little subsidiaries of its own, \u201cfor the potential financing of the proposed development of the integrated resort in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>.\u201d (That&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Resorts-World-LV.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-13535\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Resorts-World-LV.jpg\" alt=\"Resorts World LV\" width=\"293\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Resorts-World-LV.jpg 293w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Resorts-World-LV-150x88.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px\" \/><\/a>an awfully conditional statement, isn&#8217;t it? &#8220;Potential financing&#8221;? &#8220;Proposed development&#8221;?) However, there&#8217;s comfort to be had from remarks Genting execs made on a conference call with <strong>Maybank IB Research<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said during the third quarter 2015 conference call that they are going to start work in mid-2016 with a soft opening in 2018. Selling the land is not an option,\u201d said one analyst. That&#8217;s the strongest commitment we&#8217;ve had from Genting so far, particularly with regard to the real estate, which Genting picked up from <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> for a song. Genting says the project &#8220;requires a rigorous planning and approval process,\u201d which seems to be where it is right now. But for a $4 billion megaresort (gigacasino?), Genting&#8217;s going to have to roll it out with maximum fanfare.
