He built a Boardwalk empire in <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/nation\/politics\/la-na-trump-atlantic-city-20151227-story.html\" target=\"_blank\">a lot of hocus-pocus, debt financing and sky-high interest rates <\/a>(14% for <strong>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Trump-medium.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6614\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Trump-medium.jpg\" alt=\"Trump medium\" width=\"200\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Trump-medium.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Trump-medium-120x150.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Taj Mahal<\/strong>). With typical Trump insecurity, he got analyst <strong>Marvin Roffman<\/strong> &#8212; a friend of mine &#8212; fired from\u00a0<strong>Janney Montgomery Scott<\/strong> after Marvin predicted (accurately) that <strong>Trump Taj Mahal<\/strong> would go bankrupt, so heavily was it leveraged. In another sham transaction, Trump had his father buy $3.5 million in <strong>Trump&#8217;s Castle<\/strong> chips as a subterfuge to pump money into the casino.<\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s massive indebtedness was, in a perverse way, his salvation. True, he had to submit to a personal allowance and sell some of his toys, like <!--more-->his <em>Trump Princess yacht<\/em>. But he convinced regulators that letting him keep his three casinos was better than letting them go into foreclosure. And, given the scale of Trump&#8217;s indebtedness, how much choice did the banks have but to play along? (Shades of how <strong>Gary Loveman<\/strong> would take <strong>Wall Street<\/strong> hostage in the <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> buyout.)<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> visits the scene of the crime and finds a number of embittered tradesmen who took a bath from Trump&#8217;s multiple bankruptcies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/trump-sits.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6766\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/trump-sits.jpg\" alt=\"trump sits\" width=\"134\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a>&#8212; and let it not be forgotten that, as 10% owner of <strong>Trump Entertainment Resorts<\/strong> &#8212; Trump is now in Chapter 11 four times over.\u00a0&#8220;What kind of ethics are we talking about here,&#8221; asks stockholder representative <strong>Sebastian Pignatello<\/strong>, adding, &#8220;He trampled everyone: the shareholders, the bondholders, the employees, the contractors.&#8221; In answer to his question, the same kind of ethics Trump usually displays: none.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From a financial point of view, [Trump]\u00a0left Atlantic City with his tail between his legs\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0hardly a model of financial probity or business acumen,&#8221; says former <strong>Casino Control Commission<\/strong> chairman <strong>Steven Perskie<\/strong>. The <em>LAT<\/em> finds a few Trump defenders in Atlantic City, one of whom says,\u00a0&#8220;If a guy used a loophole in the law to benefit himself, more power to him. Wouldn&#8217;t you do the same thing?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well, would we?<\/p>\n<p>* Fattened by some end-of-October slot revenues, <strong>Nevad<\/strong>a gaming grosses were up 8% last month, with the Strip showing 5% improvement. This was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Bellagio-300-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4388\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Bellagio-300-02-285x300.jpg\" alt=\"Bellagio-300-02\" width=\"285\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Bellagio-300-02-285x300.jpg 285w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Bellagio-300-02-142x150.jpg 142w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Bellagio-300-02.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><\/a>in spite of a 28% decline in baccarat wagers and boy did the house play lucky, winning only 14% less at baccarat. Other types of table games saw only 3% and house winnings rose 7% (inclusive of poker rake). Strip slots held tighter than a drum, keeping 15% more of players&#8217; money than last year. &#8220;Overall, we continue to think the LV Strip can generate mid-single [room revenues]\u00a0and low-single-digit visitation growth, though we expect the market to continue experiencing volatility in baccarat play given a likely slowdown in Chinese players,&#8221; wrote <strong>JP Morgan<\/strong> analyst <strong>Joseph Greff<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Laughlin<\/strong> and <strong>Reno<\/strong> both saw modest gains (3% each), while other jurisdictions were absolutely boffo. <strong>Downtown Las Vegas<\/strong> shot up 25%, <strong>North Las Vegas<\/strong> zoomed to a 23% gain and the <strong>Boulder Strip<\/strong> was up 21.5%. Outlying <strong>Clark County<\/strong> markets like <strong>Mesquite<\/strong> and <strong>Primm<\/strong> rose 9%, so &#8212; all in all &#8212; the locals player was feeling very confident in November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If Donald Trump proposes to run America the way he ran his casinos, God help us all.
