It has let the $1 billion construction contract to <strong>Suffolk Construction<\/strong>, biggest in <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>. By choosing a <strong>Boston<\/strong> company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-15390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett-300x164.jpeg\" alt=\"Massachusetts Gambling\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett-300x164.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett-150x82.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett.jpeg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>for this seven-figure deal (plus 4,000 jobs), perhaps Wynn will finally get Beantown Mayor <strong>Martin Walsh<\/strong> to quit running his yap about what a raw deal he&#8217;s getting from <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>. The casino company says it conducted a nationwide search for the right builder but surely it is more than coincidence that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/2016\/01\/19\/suffolk-wins-billion-contract-build-wynn-casino-everett\/O4TWvPqomD5GcHMror8SPM\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the prize ultimately went to a local contractor<\/a>. Said Wynn&#8217;s <strong>Robert DeSalvio<\/strong>,\u00a0\u201cSuffolk Construction shares our values and is working with us full speed to meet our ground-breaking target,\u201d having promised to meet the end-of-2018 deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Responded Suffolk CEO <strong>John F. Fish<\/strong>,\u00a0\u201cTo me, it is the crown jewel of our portfolio,\u201d being the largest single contract the <!--more-->company has ever won. Fish sealed the deal by flying to <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> to court Wynn personally. The company is no stranger to casinos, having done\u00a0the (much smaller) <strong>Dania Casino &amp; Jai-Alai<\/strong> and <strong>California<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Quechan Casino Resort<\/strong>. The pre-existence of a network of local Suffolk subcontractors also gave the company an edge. Let&#8217;s hope the Suffolk signing means that Wynn Everett has turned a corner and can move ahead with all deliberate speed.<\/p>\n<p>* If local TV newscasts are any measurement, Las Vegans are still reeling with shock from <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong>&#8216;s decision to implement parking fees at all its Strip resorts &#8230; including $17 to use valet parking. (Methinks valet parkers will see a dropoff in tips.) In the middle of it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sisolak.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14730\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sisolak.jpg\" alt=\"Sisolak\" width=\"210\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sisolak.jpg 210w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sisolak-150x143.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/a>casino apologist and sometime <strong>Clark County<\/strong> Commissioner <strong>Steve Sisolak<\/strong>, wearing a shit-eating grin and talking about how we should grab our ankles and enjoy the experience. Speak for yourself, Steve. Tourists may bow to the inevitable but locals are certain to balk at the levy &#8212; or at least sign up for <strong>M life<\/strong> <em>en masse<\/em> in order to get free parking while they still can. In any event, <a href=\"http:\/\/knpr.org\/knpr\/2016-01\/mgm-be-first-strip-charge-parking\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the issue isn&#8217;t going to go away quietly<\/a>, as today&#8217;s <strong>KNPR-FM<\/strong> debate between attorney <strong>Dayvid Figler<\/strong> and <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em> columnist <strong>Rick Velotta<\/strong> attests. In the meanwhile, <em>VitalVegas.com<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/vitalvegas.com\/hasbro-announces-las-vegas-monopoly-edition-will-no-longer-have-free-parking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has come up with an inspired parody<\/a> of the whole kerfuffle.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Gaming &amp; Leisure Properties<\/strong> cleared another hurdle in the anti-trust process, as its purchase of <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.radioiowa.com\/2016\/01\/18\/real-estate-sale-plan-approved-for-ameristar-casino-in-council-bluffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">got the thumbs-up<\/a> from the <strong>Iowa Racing &amp; Gaming Commission<\/strong>. The deal satisfied the IRGC&#8217;s main concern, that it might occlude their ability to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/pinnacle_logo_lr.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8068\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/pinnacle_logo_lr.gif\" alt=\"pinnacle_logo_lr\" width=\"234\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/pinnacle_logo_lr.gif 234w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/pinnacle_logo_lr-150x101.gif 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 234px) 100vw, 234px\" \/><\/a>regulate the business at the Pinnacle casinos. \u201cWe wanted to ensure that through the licensing that even though the operator is going to now be a tenant as opposed to both owning and operating \u2014 that we had enough control that we could say we are not happy with the condition, or that we want you to pursue some additional amenities and that that will all fit under the structure of this \u2014 particularly under that master lease that we were talking about,\u201d explained Chairman <strong>Jeff Lamberti<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Lamberti elaborated that Pinnacle management wouldn&#8217;t have to clear routine maintenance with GLPI (a big source of concern regarding casino REITs) and GLPI couldn&#8217;t &#8216;reasonably&#8217; block capex improvements (ditto). With Iowa casino licenses subject to annual renewal, the Hawkeye State has GLPI on a very short leash. Message: Don&#8217;t screw it up.<\/p>\n<p>* Pinnacle, in the meantime, is already <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/business\/article55271965.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">chafing at the new lines of credit<\/a> that <strong>Missouri<\/strong> allows it to issue. With solid Midwestern conservatism, Missouri politicians wrote the law so that you have to be good for at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Ameristar-St.-Charles.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-15716\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Ameristar-St.-Charles-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"Ameristar St. Charles\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Ameristar-St.-Charles-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Ameristar-St.-Charles-150x97.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Ameristar-St.-Charles.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>$10,000 in order to qualify for casino credit. But how many high rollers does the Show-Me State have? Pinnacle wants that $10,000 minimum substantially reduced.\u00a0\u201cI can\u2019t speak for other gaming companies, but it is certainly something Pinnacle properties will be pursuing,\u201d said company\u00a0Vice President of Government Relations &amp;\u00a0Public Affairs <strong>Troy Stremming<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Pinnacle is the top dog in Missouri, owning three of the seven high-grossing casinos that issue credit. Stremming&#8217;s argument is that lower lines of credit will improve Pinnacle&#8217;s ability to market to its big players from other states, particularly when they&#8217;re in <strong>St. Louis<\/strong> or <strong>Kansas City<\/strong> for a sporting event. The <strong>Missouri Gaming Commission<\/strong> is staying neutral, which is perhaps just as well since it hasn&#8217;t been tracking the issuance of casino credit. You&#8217;d think if this was a really serious issue, it would be driving players back into <strong>Illinois<\/strong>, where lines of credit are involved, but such has not been the case.<\/p>\n<p>* Congrats to <strong>Lawrence Ho<\/strong> on the opening of his $500 million <strong>Tigre<br \/>\nde Cristal<\/strong> casino in <strong>Siberia<\/strong>. The first casino in the <strong>Primosrky Krai<\/strong> region, it will be joined by others that <strong>Global Market Advisors<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Lawrence_Ho_Melco.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13595\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Lawrence_Ho_Melco-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"Lawrence_Ho_Melco\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Lawrence_Ho_Melco-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Lawrence_Ho_Melco-150x101.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Lawrence_Ho_Melco.jpg 318w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>estimates will ramp the area up into a $5 billion\/year gaming magnet by 2026. After all, <strong>Japan<\/strong>, <strong>China<\/strong> and <strong>South Korea<\/strong> are all only a short flight away. The opening was marred by the heavy sedation allegedly given to the casino&#8217;s mascot, a tiger cub. Congratulations also to <strong>Chuckchansi Gold Resort &amp; Casino<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/abc30.com\/news\/chukchansi-gold-resort-and-casino-officially-reopens\/1161137\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open again for business<\/a>. We feared it would never happen. And it&#8217;s good to see local clergy showing support for the casino.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Ainsworth Technologies<\/strong> has its eyes firmly on the Native American casino industry. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/ainsworth-completes-acquisition-of-nova-technologies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">It just closed on the $38 million purchase<\/a> of <strong>Nova Technologies<\/strong>, which specializes in Class II gaming machines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wynn Resorts bought locally in its search for a Wynn Everett general contractor.
