Normally, casino companies insist on a secret ballot. In fact, the potential unionization of <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> employees <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/opinion\/editorials\/editorial-culinarys-arrested-development\" target=\"_blank\">has been stymied<\/a> by the <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong>&#8216;s insistence on going the card-check route rather than accepting management&#8217;s offer of secret-ballot voting.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong>&#8216; controversial tip-confiscation policy has been ashcanned by the <strong>Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals<\/strong>. The reasoning behind the verdict <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/9th-circuit-court-overturns-tip-pooling-policy-wynn-las-vegas\" target=\"_blank\">is somewhat arcane<\/a> but it&#8217;s long-sought vindication for the Wynn dealers who have been fighting this in the courts since 2011. However, it may be a moot point at <strong>Wynncore<\/strong>, since the <strong>Transport Workers Union<\/strong> bargained away its opposition to tip pooling as part of the price of getting a contract with Wynn.<\/p>\n<p>* While the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong> has yet to be heard from, the <strong>Springfield City Council<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/mgm_springfield\/index.ssf\/2016\/02\/mgm_springfields_design_change.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">has bowed to the inevitable and accepted<\/a> all of <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong>&#8216;s design changes <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10449\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MGM-Springfield-3-300x218.jpg\" alt=\"MGM Springfield 3\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MGM-Springfield-3-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MGM-Springfield-3-150x109.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/MGM-Springfield-3.jpg 665w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>(including the elimination of a hotel tower) to <strong>MGM Springfield<\/strong>. Only one of the 13 council members voted against the emendations to MGM&#8217;s original plans, which were so striking they helped carry the day against <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong>. Among the concessions the city made was allowing MGM to move approximately 54 apartments off-site. The &#8220;approximately 54&#8221; was a change from the previous 54-or-more promise but <strong>Springfield<\/strong> city fathers obviously weren&#8217;t in a move to kick up much of\u00a0a fuss, not when MGM is investing close to a billion dollars in their city.<\/p>\n<p>* Just when it seems like <strong>Wynn Everett<\/strong> has heard the last of nuisance lawsuits, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/business\/2016\/02\/18\/time-for-curtatone-make-peace-with-everett-casino\/abdEtsRnGg8NzpQyNXzEzI\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">another one crops up<\/a>. The latest one could mean a six-month delay and $55 million in extra costs for <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>, who&#8217;s having a bad week.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>&#8216;s Marina District <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/business\/in-old-fight-ac-s-marina-is-new-steady-winner\/article_c3233e9e-d9bc-11e5-9b94-c7ac2eebc0b5.html\">clobbers the Boardwalk<\/a>. C&#8217;mon, <strong>Stockton University<\/strong>, this hasn&#8217;t been news for <em>years<\/em> &#8212; certainly not since <strong>Tilman Fertitta<\/strong> turned dumpy <strong>Trump Marina<\/strong> into the <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong>.
