That is cause for optimism at the Taj, which has gone from being one of <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>&#8216;s three top casinos to one of its <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14742\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/trump-taj-maha-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"trump-taj maha\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/trump-taj-maha-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/trump-taj-maha-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/trump-taj-maha.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>two lowest-grossing. Oversight of the property now passes from <strong>MTR Gaming<\/strong> refugees to TropEnt&#8217;s <strong>Anthony Rodio<\/strong>, who performed a dramatic turnaround at the <strong>Tropicana Atlantic City<\/strong> and gets a chance to repeat his magic at the Taj.\u00a0&#8220;The Taj is one of Atlantic City&#8217;s signature properties.\u00a0Although both Atlantic City and the Taj have had a few tough years, today marks the beginning of the turnaround,&#8221; said Icahn in a rare public statement.\u00a0&#8220;Just a few years ago Tropicana was in bankruptcy and its fate uncertain, but since emerging in 2010, we have turned that property around and it has become one of Atlantic City&#8217;s few success stories. I am confident we can and will do the same for the Taj.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rodio must now turn his attention to hammering out a <!--more-->new collective-bargaining agreement with <strong>Unite-Here<\/strong>. Local prexy\u00a0<strong>Robert McDevitt<\/strong> expressed cautious optimism at how Icahn would treat Taj workers now that he was actually responsible for them. (The two men had been trading colorful epithets for months.) Unite-Here has staged nine protests at the Taj it would be in the interests of all parties to avoid a tenth. Although the Trump name will stay on the marquee, <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> is now completely bought out of Atlantic City and that&#8217;s good riddance. Although he is generally a hands-off owner, Icahn inspires more confidence at the helm. Maybe he and Rodio could start by <a href=\"http:\/\/legalnewsline.com\/stories\/510697819-new-jersey-division-of-gaming-sets-temporary-rules-for-skill-based-gaming\">installing skill-based slots<\/a>, newly legal in <strong>New Jersey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>* For those who believe that no news is good news, February in <strong>Macao<\/strong> was cause for euphoria. Gaming revenues were flat with last year&#8217;s and considerably better than <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-14787\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MGM-Macau-casino-4-300x189.jpg\" alt=\"MGM-Macau-casino-4\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MGM-Macau-casino-4-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MGM-Macau-casino-4-150x94.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/MGM-Macau-casino-4.jpg 625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>January&#8217;s. <strong>JP Morgan<\/strong> analyst <strong>Joseph Greff<\/strong> deemed <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong>&#8216;s stock the most mispriced of any Macao operator, adding that <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> was another good buy &#8220;given its sizable Macau mass market exposure, stable <strong>Singapore<\/strong> performance overall, strong balance sheet, and attractive\/relatively safe dividend.&#8221; (Gaming analysts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/melco-crown-finances-not-to-improve-near-term-moodys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">were less sanguine<\/a> about <strong>Melco Crown Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s prospects.)\u00a0<strong>Deutsche Bank<\/strong> analyst <strong>Carlo Santarelli<\/strong> cautioned against interpreting the results to mean that Macao had bottomed out, noting that &#8212; with Chinese New Year behind us &#8212; March would probably see a 10% decline.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> caught a break from federal bankruptcy Judge <strong>Benjamin Goldgar<\/strong>, who stayed a <strong>New York<\/strong> lawsuit by junior bondholders until May 9. The latter are trying to enforce guarantees Caesars placed on its debt, while Caesars maintains that &#8212; if reimposed &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/us-judge-halts-ny-litigation-vs-caesars-entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it would topple the parent company<\/a> into bankruptcy. Goldgar is awaiting the results of attorney <strong>Richard Davis<\/strong>&#8216; investigation into the <strong>Caesars Entertainment Operating Co<\/strong>., including the controversial transfer of valuable assets for low prices or sometimes, as in the case of <strong>Total Rewards<\/strong>, for nothing whatsoever.
