Foot traffic was 3% higher and customer spending rose 2%.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-17861\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/paradice_exterior_official-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"paradice_exterior_official\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/paradice_exterior_official-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/paradice_exterior_official-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/paradice_exterior_official.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u00a0Two operators had revenue-negative months, with <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> off 1% at <strong>Grand Victoria Elgin<\/strong>, while <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> dropped 6% at <strong>Par-A-Dice<\/strong> (a result that Boyd had hinted at with layoffs and curtailed hours). The two casinos grossed $13 million and $7 million respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The operator with the best month was <strong>Gaming &amp; Leisure Properties<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Casino Queen<\/strong> ($10 million), up 11%. <strong>Neil Bluhm<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Rivers Casino<\/strong> grossed $34 million, good for <!--more-->an 8.5% million increase. Also having a very good month was <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>, up 13% at <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Metropolis<\/strong> ($7 million) and 4% at <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Joliet<\/strong> ($14 million). Despite a 5% decline at <strong>Argosy Belle<\/strong> ($4 million), <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> had a revenue-positive month, up 6% at <strong>Empress Joliet<\/strong> ($10 million) and 9% at <strong>Hollywood Aurora<\/strong> ($10 million). Competition seems to have worked in almost all the <strong>Chicagoland<\/strong> operators&#8217; favor. To the west, independent <strong>Jumer&#8217;s Casino Rock Island<\/strong> was up 3%, for a $6 million haul.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Palms Casino Resort<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-03-04\/palms-casino-said-on-market-as-listings-rise-with-vegas-tourism\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">may be back on the market<\/a> after spending five years under the stewardship of <strong>TPG Capital<\/strong> and <strong>Leonard Green &amp; Partners<\/strong>. With average daily room <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9178\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/palms-pic.jpg\" alt=\"palms-pic\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/palms-pic.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/palms-pic-150x125.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>rates back at 2008 levels, this may be as good a time as any to peddle the Palms, hopefully to a casino-focused owner. Would <strong>George Maloof<\/strong> want to make a comeback? Does he have the capital? TPG and Green aren&#8217;t the only casino speculators who have properties with a &#8220;for sale&#8221; sign on them. <strong>Aliante Casino<\/strong> may get flipped again, as <strong>Apollo Management<\/strong> and TPG are reportedly exploring putting it up for grabs. And of course <strong>Carl Icahn<\/strong> is trying yet again to move <strong>Fontainebleau<\/strong>, putting <strong>CBRE Group<\/strong> to the task of finding a sucker, er, buyer to take F-blew off his hands.<\/p>\n<p>* No surprise here. A ballot question to add a casino to <strong>Tiverton<\/strong> will go before <strong>Rhode Island<\/strong> voters in November. Legislators approved the language and sent it on to Gov. <strong>Gina Raimondo<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ripr.org\/post\/voters-decide-twin-rivers-tiverton-proposal\" target=\"_blank\">who appended her signature to the legislation<\/a>. Voters will be asked whether to put a 1,000-VLT, 32-table casino on the <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> border, hoping to blunt the impact of <strong>Plainridge Park<\/strong> and a potential Region C casino in the Bay State. Said Raimondo, &#8220;we took action focused on keeping economic development and jobs here in Rhode Island, and protecting our state\u2019s third-largest revenue source so that we can continue to invest in priorities like improving our schools, keeping college affordable, and creating jobs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>&#8216;s not exactly a pauper these days but his paycheck was 18% lighter last year, thanks to lower play at <strong>Wynn Macau<\/strong>. Its namesake took home only $20.7 million, the <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> board <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-03-05\/stephen-wynn-s-pay-drops-as-china-gamblers-shun-vip-tables\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">having reduced some of his $17.5 million in bonuses<\/a>. As we <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4268\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wynn_BG1.jpg\" alt=\"Wynn_BG1\" width=\"180\" height=\"130\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wynn_BG1.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wynn_BG1-150x108.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/>noted last week, Wynn Macau&#8217;s high exposure to high rollers has made it one of the bigger victims on recent plunges in business.\u00a0\u201cThe VIP business cratered and the mass market waned as visitation from China turned negative,\u201d was how <strong>Bloomberg Intelligence<\/strong> Director of Research <strong>Tim Craighead<\/strong> put it. In case you&#8217;re curious as to how the other half lives, Wynn continues to dwell\u00a0in a high-roller villa <strong>Wynncore<\/strong>, for which he pays $560,000 a year.<\/p>\n<p>To incentivize Wynn, the board cut his $4 million salary to $2.5 million and tied more of his pay packet to performance targets. Even with the cutbacks, Wynn&#8217;s living on Easy Street compared to <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> ($12 million) and <strong>Jim Murren<\/strong> ($10 million).
