Her attorneys have filed their no less than <em>fifth<\/em> amended complaint and counterclaim. It <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Elaine-Wynn-213x300.jpg\" alt=\"Elaine Wynn\" width=\"213\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Elaine-Wynn-213x300.jpg 213w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Elaine-Wynn-106x150.jpg 106w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Elaine-Wynn.jpg 342w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 213px) 100vw, 213px\" \/>references\u00a0depositions from several <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> board members, including former <strong>Nevada<\/strong> Gov. <strong>Bob Miller<\/strong>. It also levels some serious claims against CEO <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong> and General Counsel <strong>Kim Sinatra<\/strong>, accusing them of concealing information to the board, depriving the latter of its ability to govern the company appropriately. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/elaine-wynn-files-new-documents-affirms-contentions\" target=\"_blank\">The fan-dance motion<\/a> promises &#8220;startling admissions&#8221; of &#8220;reckless, risk-taking behavior &#8230; he made a multimillion-dollar payment and used company resources to silence and that he did not properly disclose to the board of directors.&#8221; Do tell! As for the charge that Mr. Wynn exploited &#8220;a public company to fund his lavish lifestyle and personal politics,\u201d that won&#8217;t come as any surprise to those who have read <strong>Christina Binkley<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>The Winner Takes All<\/em>. However, the timing of the motion &#8212; just before Wynn&#8217;s next earnings call &#8212; may be more than coincidence.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Wynn&#8217;s represented <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/opinion\/columns-blogs\/john-l-smith\/warring-wynns-pull-company-s-directors-dispute\" target=\"_blank\">were quick to fire back<\/a> with a press release that charged the ex-Mrs. Wynn with using <!--more-->&#8220;shock and awe&#8221; tactics, which seems like a fair assessment, and of peddling\u00a0\u201cfalse and inflammatory accusations.\u201d Furthermore, the statement read, &#8220;She is promising verification for these same tired allegations without delivering on them. There was no legal reason for her press release. Her only motivation is an attempt to harm Mr. Wynn and Wynn Resorts and conduct the trial of her unfounded allegations in the press rather than in court where they are destined to be proved false.\u201d It&#8217;s hard to argue that Elaine Wynn isn&#8217;t trying her case in the court of public opinion. Watching all this, however, John Q. Public is likely to decide that the Wynns deserve each other.<\/p>\n<p>* New casino openings &#8212; think <strong>Aria<\/strong> and <strong>SLS Las Vegas<\/strong> &#8212; don&#8217;t move the needle around here anymore, but <strong>T-Mobile Arena<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/the-strip\/t-mobile-arena\/t-mobile-arena-filled-head-turning-features-photos\" target=\"_blank\">have a gander<\/a>) promises to stir up some genuine excitement. My peers in the media certainly think so, as does <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> CEO <strong>Jim Murren<\/strong>, who says,\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re becoming a real big sports town,\u201d <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-13404\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Jim-Murren.jpg\" alt=\"Jim-Murren\" width=\"204\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Jim-Murren.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Jim-Murren-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 204px) 100vw, 204px\" \/>even though we don&#8217;t have any real big sports &#8230; at least not yet.\u00a0\u201cBy bringing the <strong>Pacific-12<\/strong> basketball tournament here a few years ago \u2014 which everyone said, \u2018No, the <strong>NCAA<\/strong> would never have a basketball tournament here\u2019 \u2014 now everybody loves it,&#8221; Murren told <strong>Norm(!) Clarke<\/strong>. While he&#8217;s confident that <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> will land a professional sports team, now that it has T-Mobile (is it too soon to start calling it &#8220;The T&#8221;?), Murren sees the real growth coming through regional, collegiate men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s basketball tourneys. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/opinion\/columns-blogs\/norm-clarke\/mgm-resorts-ceo-sees-momentum-t-mobile-arena\" target=\"_blank\">And he&#8217;s predicting that we&#8217;ll see it real soon<\/a>: two years, three tops.<\/p>\n<p>Nor has Murren ceased to advocate for New Urbanism, saying of The Park, &#8220;we\u2019re going to prove that\u2019s economically successful.\u201d He managed to get Gov. <strong>Brian Sandoval<\/strong> (R) down <a href=\"http:\/\/lasvegassun.com\/blogs\/kats-report\/2016\/apr\/04\/upon-further-review-mgm-resorts-plan-b-was-right-w\/\" target=\"_blank\">to cut the ribbon<\/a>, although Sandoval upstaged himself with a gaffe that this was a great day &#8220;for the City of Las Vegas&#8221; (The Park lies several miles outside Las Vegas&#8217; city limits). If I were Mayor <strong>Carolyn Goodman<\/strong> I&#8217;d take that misplaced accolade and run with it &#8212; much to the chagrin of the <strong>Clark County Commission<\/strong>, no doubt. In other news of the day, Murren trotted out the idea of renaming <strong>Monte Carlo<\/strong> as <strong>The Park at MGM Grand<\/strong>, perhaps to see how it would be received.<\/p>\n<p>Already the question is being asked whether T-Mobile gives MGM more options or puts it in competition with itself. No casino company has remotely as many big venues. And T-Mobile <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/the-strip\/t-mobile-arena\/arena-opening-heightens-competition-among-existing-facilities\" target=\"_blank\">has already snurched<\/a> the Pac-12 tournament from <strong>MGM Grand Garden Arena<\/strong>. <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-13403\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/AEG-Arena-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"AEG Arena\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/AEG-Arena-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/AEG-Arena-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/AEG-Arena.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>MGM executives even conceded to the <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em> that the new showplace in town would hurt business at their other\u00a0venues in the near term. \u201cIt\u2019s very hard for existing arenas not to feel the pinch of a new arena, especially because the new arena is invariably more modern and comfortable,\u201d <strong>Smith College<\/strong> economics professor <strong>Andrew Zimbalist<\/strong> told the paper. Users of the arena <a href=\"http:\/\/lasvegassun.com\/blogs\/kats-report\/2016\/apr\/05\/lv-all-star-show-parking-for-t-mobile-opening-cloc\/\" target=\"_blank\">will feel the pinch of parking fees<\/a>, something that will make locals think twice about how much they want to patronize an MGM property.<\/p>\n<p>MGM execs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/the-strip\/t-mobile-arena\/arena-opening-heightens-competition-among-existing-facilities\" target=\"_blank\">are shooting for 100 more events a year<\/a> at T-Mobile (an <strong>NHL<\/strong> franchise could account for half of those), which still leaves a lot of &#8220;dark&#8221; nights &#8212; over 200 &#8212; at the Strip&#8217;s big halls.\u00a0\u201cThat gives you a little gulp in the throat,\u201d said <strong>University of Michigan<\/strong> professor <strong>Mark Rosentraub<\/strong>, although MGM Senior Vice President for Entertainment <strong>Bruce Arpin<\/strong> riposted,\u00a0\u201cOur goal is to get to 100 events at T-Mobile and have no impact <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11993\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/web1_ARENA-NOV05-13-west-view_0-300x148.jpg\" alt=\"web1_ARENA-NOV05-13-west-view_0\" width=\"300\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/web1_ARENA-NOV05-13-west-view_0-300x148.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/web1_ARENA-NOV05-13-west-view_0-150x74.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/web1_ARENA-NOV05-13-west-view_0.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>on our other buildings.\u201d He cites <strong>George Strait<\/strong>&#8216;s upcoming residency to make his point:\u00a0\u201cHis engagement wasn\u2019t going to happen without this building\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0He was compelled by this proposition.\u201d MGM has already booked an e-sports tournament into <strong>Mandalay Bay Events Center<\/strong>, and is attempting to recruit college hockey and wrestling tourneys, events which could draw enough fans to strain MGM&#8217;s arena capability to the max. Unlike MGM, Zimbalist and Rosentraub think it will take a few years for T-Mobile&#8217;s impact to be measurable &#8230; although it certainly poses a competitive challenge for <strong>UNLV<\/strong>&#8216;s potentially underfunded <strong>Thomas &amp; Mack Center<\/strong>. At least MGM passed on the chance to lure the <strong>National Finals Rodeo<\/strong> away from the T&amp;M, a generous gesture that it certainly didn&#8217;t have to make.<\/p>\n<p>* You know that <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong>&#8216;s attempts to get Judge <strong>Elizabeth Gonzalez<\/strong> tossed from the <strong>Steven Jacobs<\/strong> wrongful-termination case are meretricious when empty suit <strong>Alan Dershowitz<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/nevada-supreme-court-hears-sands-appeal-decision-keep-judge-case\" target=\"_blank\">is trotted out in an attempt to impress<\/a> the Nevada Supreme Court. As long as Dershowitz is in <strong>Carson City<\/strong> to blow hot air, perhaps he can try to get his pal <strong>O.J. Simpson<\/strong> sprung from jail, too.<\/p>\n<p>* Another Las Vegas icon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/neon\/nightlife\/does-champagnes-cafe-east-las-vegas-need-be-rescued\" target=\"_blank\">is in danger of being effaced<\/a>. The exemplary and thorough story only fails to mention that <strong>Champagne&#8217;s<\/strong> is one of the most highly-regarded karaoke bars in town.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;ve got to hand\u00a0this to Elaine Wynn: She doesn&#8217;t give up easily.
