So says\u00a0<strong>California Nations Indian Gaming Association<\/strong> Chairman <strong>Steve Stallings<\/strong>, as a bill by Assemblyman <strong>Adam Gray<\/strong> shows signs of advancing. The primary obstacle, as ever, is <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-12477\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Internet-casino-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Internet casino\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Internet-casino-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Internet-casino-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Internet-casino.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>the insistence\u00a0by several tribal power players on a &#8220;bad actor&#8221; clause that would keep <strong>PokerStars<\/strong> out of the Golden State. That faction&#8217;s hand was strengthened by recent insider-trading charges against CEO <strong>David Baazov<\/strong> for insider trading, seemingly to validate the argument that this particular leopard can&#8217;t change his spots. Stallings, whose private-sector allies include <strong>Bicycle Casino<\/strong>, acknowledges as much.\u00a0\u201cIt does raise if not red flags, caution flags.\u00a0It does raise issues of corporate governance,\u201d he told <strong>CardPlayer.com<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cThe resurgence of poker as a viable online game depends on California,\u201d Stallings said. \u201cOne more hurdle does <!--more-->make it more difficult.\u201d If casino-owning tribes like\u00a0the <strong>San Manuel Band of Mission Indians<\/strong> want i-poker, they may well have to cut PokerStars loose.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, the inclusion or exclusion of PokerStars could be moot: Stallings estimates that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardplayer.com\/poker-news\/20214-california-to-have-online-poker-hearing-this-month-insider-says\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">only six, maybe 10 online casinos would be viable<\/a> in the current economy. That&#8217;s going to leave a lot of tribes and card rooms out in the cold.<\/p>\n<p>* Dodgy\u00a0casino speculator <strong>Shawn Scott<\/strong> is going to the <strong>Maine Supreme Court<\/strong> after Secretary of State <strong>Matt Dunlap<\/strong>&#8216;s invalidation of Scott&#8217;s petition drive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressherald.com\/2016\/04\/07\/maine-judge-upholds-states-rejection-of-casino-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\">was upheld<\/a> by Judge <strong>Michaela Murphy<\/strong>. At the heart of Dunlap&#8217;s case is the fact that the signatures of <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-18097\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dunlap.jpg\" alt=\"Dunlap\" width=\"160\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dunlap.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Dunlap-126x150.jpg 126w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 160px) 100vw, 160px\" \/>alleged notaries on many of Scott&#8217;s petitions did not match the signatures of notaries on file with Dunlap&#8217;s office. (This wouldn&#8217;t the first time Scott has been caught playing fast and loose with a petition drive. Also, his petition leader and head notary, former lawmaker <strong>Stavros Mendros<\/strong>, pled guilty to petition irregularities in 2007.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPetitioners bear the burden of proof in the present action and cannot satisfy that burden by pointing to a number of alleged errors and asking the court to extrapolate from those errors that more must exist,\u201d Murphy opined. Scott and his cronies are predicating their appeal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressherald.com\/2016\/04\/12\/backers-of-casino-petition-appeal-judges-ruling-keeping-plan-off-maine-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\">on the grounds that Murphy acted inconsistently<\/a>, overruling Dunlap (<em>pictured<\/em>) when he tossed out nearly 5,100 Mendros-gathered signatures in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressherald.com\/2016\/04\/08\/judges-ruling-revives-campaign-to-ask-maine-voters-whether-to-legalize-marijuana\/\" target=\"_blank\">a campaign to legalize marijuana<\/a>, although there were some fine distinctions between the two Murphy rulings. Still, with 35,000 validated signatures, Scott has until late 2017 to find 26,000 real people to get his casino drive over the top.<\/p>\n<p>* Casino revenue stagnated in <strong>Detroit<\/strong>&#8216;s late-winter months. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crainsdetroit.com\/article\/20160412\/NEWS\/160419930\/detroit-casinos-aggregate-revenue-up-slightly-for-quarter\" target=\"_blank\">March was flat with last year<\/a>, with <strong>MGM Grand Detroit<\/strong>&#8216;s 4% increase the market leader. <strong>MotorCity Casino Hotel<\/strong> was flat and <strong>Greektown Casino-Hotel<\/strong> slipped 4%. In terms of gross revenue, MGM&#8217;s $52 million also led the market, followed by MotorCity&#8217;s $44 million and, well to the rear, Greektown&#8217;s $29 million.
