This marks seven months of same-store decline for the Pelican State, an exceptional slump, with the usually booming <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5087\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/lauberge_exterior-300x231.jpg\" alt=\"lauberge_exterior\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/lauberge_exterior-300x231.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/lauberge_exterior-150x115.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/lauberge_exterior.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><strong>Lake Charles<\/strong> market taking the hardest hit, -16.5%. That led to a 19% tailspin for <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong>, although although all major operators &#8212; <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> -11%, <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> -10%, <strong>Gaming &amp; Leisure Properties<\/strong> -15%, <strong>Isle of Capri Casinos<\/strong> -16% &#8212; had a rough go of it. Not only did Pinnacle&#8217;s <strong>L&#8217;Auberge du Lac<\/strong> ($21 million) plunge 29%, it lost primacy in Lake Charles to the <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong> ($23 million, 5%), a signal victory for owner <strong>Tilman Fertitta<\/strong>. Also-rans in the market were <strong>Isle Grand Palais<\/strong> ($10 million, -16%) and Boyd&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Delta Downs<\/strong> ($16 million, -11%).<\/p>\n<p>Caesars got to say it was No. 1 again, as <strong>Harrah&#8217;s New Orleans<\/strong> shrugged off a 3.5% dip to record $23 million and change for top-grossing status in the state. Elsewhere in the Big Easy, <strong>Churchill Downs<\/strong> actually <!--more-->recorded a gain (6%, the only revenue-positive property in the state) at <strong>Fair Grounds<\/strong> racino, grossing $4 million. Pinnacle&#8217;s <strong>Boomtown New Orleans<\/strong> was down 12% to $10 million, while Boyd&#8217;s <strong>Treasure Chest<\/strong> was off 6%, to $9 million. Outlying Boyd <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1105\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Amelia-Belle-300x163.jpg\" alt=\"Amelia Belle\" width=\"300\" height=\"163\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Amelia-Belle-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Amelia-Belle.jpg 752w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>properties <strong>Amelia Belle<\/strong> (<em>left<\/em>, $4 million, -21%) and <strong>Evangeline Downs<\/strong> ($7 million, -14.5%) had it much worse. As for the crowded <strong>Shreveport<\/strong>\/<strong>Bossier City<\/strong> market, Caesars was the victor again, surviving a 20% decline to record an area-best $15 million at <strong>Horseshoe Bossier City<\/strong>. Even reliable <strong>Eldorado Shreveport<\/strong> was affected by the torpor, recording an $11 million gross on a 15.5% falloff. In <strong>Baton Rouge<\/strong>, Pinnacle&#8217;s <strong>L&#8217;Auberge Baton Rouge<\/strong> outgrossed its two competitors combined, recording a $13 million gross despite a 6% decline. <strong>Tropicana Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Belle of Baton Rouge<\/strong> ($5 million) and GLPI&#8217;s <strong>Hollywood Baton Rouge<\/strong> ($5.5 million) were down 10% and 15% respectively.<\/p>\n<p>* As daily fantasy sports giants <strong>DraftKings<\/strong> and <strong>FanDuel<\/strong> try to tamp down <a href=\"http:\/\/ggbnews.com\/issue\/vol-14-no-25-june-20-2016\/article\/weekly-feature-fanduel-draftkings-happy-together\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">talk of a merger<\/a>, DFS itself has been legislatively baptized in several states. Both <strong>Colorado<\/strong> (which would exempt small operators from regulation) and <strong>Missouri<\/strong> have fully legalized it, with <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7459\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Andrew_Cuomo.gif\" alt=\"Andrew_Cuomo\" width=\"120\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Andrew_Cuomo.gif 120w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Andrew_Cuomo-113x150.gif 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 120px) 100vw, 120px\" \/>Missouri taxing DFS at an 11.5% clip. In <strong>New York<\/strong>, a DFS-legalization bill sits on Gov. <strong>Andrew Cuomo<\/strong>&#8216;s desk. Meanwhile, <strong>Nevada<\/strong> has its first legitimized DFS operator, <strong>Vic Salerno<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>US Fantasy<\/strong>. As you may recall, DFS operators are unable to peddle their product in the Silver State unless they have been licensed by the <strong>Nevada Gaming Commission<\/strong>, as was Salerno. Meanwhile, poll numbers show that the majority of TV sports viewers wouldn&#8217;t be watching if they didn&#8217;t have fantasy teams, which is pretty said when you come to think about it.<\/p>\n<p>* At least one former casino executive, <strong>Howard Jay Klein<\/strong>, thinks the impact of the likely arrival of a <strong>NHL<\/strong> franchise in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> is being overstated.\u00a0\u201cThe NHL is the weakest of<br \/>\nthe four major professional sports leagues.\u00a0Its been struggling for decades, hemmed in by <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/All_Net_Arena-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"All_Net_Arena\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/All_Net_Arena-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/All_Net_Arena-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/All_Net_Arena.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>a demo that has not grown beyond its traditional core. Low TV ratings persist. What limits its appeal is that too many teams are located in markets where the sport isn&#8217;t a strong part of the local sports ethos as it is with the <strong>NFL<\/strong>, <strong>MLB<\/strong> and the <strong>NBA<\/strong>,\u201d Klein said (and Sin City doesn&#8217;t have a sturdy history of supporting minor-league sports). Still, he said the NHL&#8217;s approval would be &#8220;a significant plus&#8221; for <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong>, due to the proximity of multiple hotels to <strong>T-Mobile Arena<\/strong>, MGM&#8217;s half-ownership of the latter and &#8220;its strategic thrust into non-gaming amenities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* Thanks to having sold an I.O.U. from <strong>Jamul Indian Village<\/strong> in <strong>California<\/strong>, <strong>Golden Entertainment<\/strong> will be able to pay shareholders a special dividend of $1.71\/share. That comes to a tidy $23.5 million, not too shabby for Golden investors.<\/p>\n<p>* I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s innovation or desperation but Caesars <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/life\/you-can-now-take-yoga-classes-the-high-roller-photos\" target=\"_blank\">has found a new way<\/a> to monetize the underperforming <strong>Las Vegas High Roller<\/strong>: yoga. The good news for aspiring yogini is that the sessions take place during optimal sightseeing hours, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (The bad news is that it&#8217;s expensive.)
