The building has lain fallow ever since and ColSux has gone to board after board, court after <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14709\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/BavarianBrewing.jpg\" alt=\"BavarianBrewing\" width=\"250\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/BavarianBrewing.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/BavarianBrewing-147x150.jpg 147w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>court, seeking permission to tear the antique brewery down. Its odds of prevailing got consistently worse but it found a win-win solution to its problem, selling the Bavarian Brewery to <strong>Kenton County<\/strong>, which will use it as office space.\u00a0&#8220;In regards to the physical structure of the old Bavarian Brewery itself, we will make every effort\u00a0to incorporate it into the planning for the new county administration building. We\u2019ll learn a lot\u00a0more in the months to come, but I\u2019m confident that the old tower at the Bavarian Brewery will\u00a0remain an iconic structure in <strong>Covington<\/strong> and Kenton County for many, many years to come,&#8221; said County Judge\u00a0<strong>Kris Knochelmann<\/strong>. The county will tear down parts of the buildin<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rcnky.com\/articles\/2016\/07\/08\/kenton-county-buys-bavarian-brewery-building-will-move-government-historic-site\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">g<\/a> to make room for new infrastructure, but will strive to preserve its medieval-looking fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n<p>ColSux takes a bit of a bath on the deal, pocketing $4.5 million for a structure that cost it <!--more-->$7.3 million back in the day. However, it sees some financial return on the investment, while Covington preserves a beloved icon. It will join nearby\u00a0<strong>St. Elizabeth\u2019s Hospital<\/strong>, the <strong>Center for\u00a0Great Neighborhoods<\/strong>, and the <strong>Linden Grove Cemetery &amp; Arboretum<\/strong> to form a new urban core. And it seems that everybody is willing to look the other way regarding partial demolition of the Brewery if the spirit of the structure is maintained.<\/p>\n<p>* Unlike next door neighbor <strong>Indiana<\/strong>, casino spending in <strong>Illinois<\/strong> was flat last month. Combined with lower admissions, it dragged the Land of Lincoln down 5%. Not even top-grosser <strong>Rivers Casino<\/strong> ($34 million) was immune, off 4%. <strong>MGM Resorts <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2851\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Grand-Victoria-IL-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Grand Victoria IL\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Grand-Victoria-IL-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Grand-Victoria-IL-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Grand-Victoria-IL.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>International<\/strong> took it hard at <strong>Grand Victoria<\/strong>, down 12% to $12 million. <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Joliet<\/strong> was down 4%, grossing $14 million, <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Hollywood Aurora<\/strong> dipped 5% to $9 million, while <strong>Empress Joliet<\/strong> fell 8% to $10 million. In this context, <strong>Argosy Belle<\/strong>&#8216;s 8% decline to $4 million doesn&#8217;t look so bad. <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Par-A-Dice<\/strong> continued to suffer from slot routes, down 12% to 7%. Small declines were registered at <strong>Jumer&#8217;s Casino<\/strong> <strong>Rock Island<\/strong> (-2%, $6 million) and <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Metropolis<\/strong> (-3%, $6 million). The sole gainer was <strong>Gaming &amp; Leisure Properties<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Casino Queen<\/strong>, defying the odds to bring in $9 million for a 7% gain.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong> President <strong>Geoff Freeman<\/strong> has been very busy making legalization of sports betting his Job One. In the meantime, that younger sibling of <strong>Internet<\/strong> gambling (&#8220;It&#8217;s just wagering on sports over the Internet&#8221;), daily fantasy sports, is trying to get out of legal limbo and onto terra firma. One such tipping point is <strong>New York State<\/strong>, where the Legislature has voted to legalize the pastime as a game of skill but <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-7459\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Andrew_Cuomo.gif\" alt=\"Andrew_Cuomo\" width=\"120\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Andrew_Cuomo.gif 120w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Andrew_Cuomo-113x150.gif 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 120px) 100vw, 120px\" \/>Gov. <strong>Andrew Cuomo<\/strong> (D) has given no signal whether he will sign the enabling legislation or not. Even if he does, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.igamingplayer.com\/issue\/vol-3-no-7-july-2016\/article\/schneiderman-to-continue-actions-against-dfs-sites-in-new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">that may not get DFS out from behind the 8-ball<\/a> with Attorney General <strong>Eric Schneiderman<\/strong>. He still intends to prosecute <strong>DraftKings<\/strong> and <strong>FanDuel<\/strong> for supposedly exaggerating the average player&#8217;s odds of winning, marketing a game of skill as one of chance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe legislature has amended the law to legalize daily fantasy sports contests, a law that will be my job to enforce and defend.\u00a0We will nevertheless continue to pursue our claims that DraftKings and FanDuel previously engaged in false advertising and consumer fraud,\u201d Schneiderman said. Two litigants in <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> are also suing the DFS giants, claiming they lured the punters into participating in illegal Internet gambling &#8230; although, unless the players are being prosecuted for DFS wagering, it&#8217;s difficult to see them having much of an argument. At any rate, if Cuomo signs the DFS bill, that could be the turning point in the industry&#8217;s battle for legitimacy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.igamingplayer.com\/issue\/vol-3-no-7-july-2016\/article\/california-could-legalize-both-dfs-and-ipoker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">in other states<\/a>.
