That&#8217;s fine by his rivals, who are all doing very well without him. Online gambling continues to grow hand over fist up, up <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13575\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/caesars-atlantic-city-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/caesars-atlantic-city-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/caesars-atlantic-city-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/caesars-atlantic-city.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>29% to $19 million. Casinos as a whole grossed $186 million, a 6% increase despite having one fewer weekend than January 2016. Tables\u00a0carried the day, up 20% to $60 million, while slots ($124 million) were flat. <strong>Borgata<\/strong> outperformed the market, rising 16% to $61 million, with tables bringing in $20 million (up 7%) and slots 6% higher than the market as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>All casinos had revenue positive months, even <strong>Bally&#8217;s Wild Wild West<\/strong>, which added a few decimal points to the positive side of the ledger. ($14 million). <strong>Caesars Atlantic City<\/strong> rocketed an astounding 41% &#8212; Lady Luck must have really been favoring the house &#8212; 41% to $28 million and <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Resort<\/strong> also grossed <!--more-->$28 million, a 1% increase. The <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> properties are believed to have been the greatest beneficiaries of the closing of <strong>Trump Taj Mahal<\/strong>, a thesis supported by their January performance. <strong>Resorts Atlantic City<\/strong> gained 9%\u00a0to $12 million while <strong>Tropicana Atlantic City<\/strong> (also a likely home for dispossessed Taj players) was up 15% to $24 million. <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong> was up 10%, closing out the month at $18 million and change. <strong>Meadowlands Racetrack<\/strong> owner <strong>Jeff Gural<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pressofatlanticcity.com\/news\/press\/casinos_tourism\/meadowlands-racetrack-owner-holds-out-hope-for-casino\/article_0656f3ce-fa6e-5c4a-8580-2948c0d0d95c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">meanwhile<\/a>, continues to pine for a racino in north <strong>New Jersey<\/strong>, although he says he can continue to eke out an existence\u00a0until <strong>New York State<\/strong> unleashes three more gaming licenses in 2023.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m not a dummy. I recognize that harness racing is a dying business,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I would have no problem being profitable if I could attract the horses. The only thing that will save me at the Meadowlands is a casino.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>MGM Grand Detroit<\/strong> had a flat month, but could afford it, dominating the Motown market with $47 million. <strong>MotorCity<\/strong> was in its customary second position, with $38 million, but gained 3.5%. <strong>Dan Gilbert<\/strong> moved the needle most at <strong>Greektown Casino<\/strong>, up 5% to $26 million.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> management sat down with <strong>Deutsche Bank<\/strong> analyst <strong>Carlo Santarelli<\/strong> and countered &#8220;muted expectations&#8221; with &#8220;solid 4Q16 results.&#8221; Boyd is projecting $62 million\u00a0ROI\u00a0to <strong>Aliante Casino<\/strong> next year, which would be a handsome 15.5% cash flow and vindicate Boyd&#8217;s hefty purchase price. <strong>Kansas Star<\/strong> also generated record cash flow last quarter, despite a 1% revenue decline. Boyd still has $92 million in the kitty for stock buybacks, so stockholders could see some lagniappe in the new(ish) year.<\/p>\n<p>* Against long odds, the <strong>Mashpee Wampanoags<\/strong> are asking the Trump administration to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/opinion\/2017\/02\/13\/mashpee-wampanoag-gambles-trump-despite-his-pocahontas-taunts\/6d15mIIYfZTrQjjt5YIzMO\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reaffirm the land-into-trust decision<\/a> made by the Obama administration, enabling them <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6566\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Donald-Trump-Apprentice-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Donald-Trump-Apprentice-2011.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Donald-Trump-Apprentice-2011-150x131.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>to resume construction on <strong>Project First Light<\/strong> in <strong>Taunton<\/strong>. (Meanwhile, <strong>Neil Bluhm<\/strong> hopes an adverse court ruling will make his unpopular <strong>Brockton<\/strong> casino proposal a <em>fait accompli<\/em>.) They&#8217;re bucking difficult odds, especially given <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/politics\/2016\/08\/trump-files-donald-indian-blood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">long history of racist verbiage<\/a> on the subject of Native Americans. His Secretary of Interior-designate <strong>Ryan Zinke<\/strong> has quite a resume of dismissive\u00a0remarks and actions against aboriginals. Considering that Trump just ran roughshod over the <strong>Standing Rock Sioux Tribe<\/strong> <em>in re<\/em> the Dakota Access Pipeline, the Mashpee Wamps face long odds. To top if all off, Trump is BFF these days with <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>, who just happens to be building a casino in <strong>Everett<\/strong> that would compete with the Wampanoags&#8217; $600 million effort. Do you think Trump is above doing a little favor for a friend?<\/p>\n<p>* Elsewhere in the Bay State, <b>Penn National Gaming<\/b>&#8216;s <b>Plainridge Park<\/b> was down 3% year\/year. However, that has to be taken in the context of an astounding $313 win\/slot\/day.
