The reported sale price has crept up to $1.3 billion. Since a sale <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6366\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Sands-Bethworks-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Sands-Bethworks-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Sands-Bethworks-150x85.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Sands-Bethworks.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>would require several weeks of due diligence before being formally announced, Sands and MGM have continue pretending that nothing is going on. However, two sources tell the <em>Allentown Morning Call<\/em> that the deal is practically done. The news has <strong>Wall Street<\/strong> analysts salivating. Some speculate that MGM could step aside and let its REIT handle\u00a0the transaction. The lion <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/mgm_springfield\/index.ssf\/2017\/03\/reports_mgm_deal_to_buy_pa_cas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">could also scarf up Sands Bethlehem&#8217;s player database <\/a>and feed it into <strong>Mlife<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Wrote <strong>Deutsche Bank<\/strong> analyst <strong>Carlo Santarelli<\/strong>,\u00a0&#8220;For MGM, the transaction would expand a northeast presence that has grown significantly over the past year, while <!--more-->[<strong>MGM Growth Properties<\/strong>]\u00a0potentially benefits from a new rent stream. LVS sheds an asset which has already produced a significant [ROI] and strengthens the capital return potential story.&#8221; It could also be a &#8216;win&#8217; for <strong>Bethlehem<\/strong> Mayor <strong>Robert Donchez<\/strong>, who has <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-15526\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/sheldon-adelson-25-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/sheldon-adelson-25-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/sheldon-adelson-25-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/sheldon-adelson-25-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/sheldon-adelson-25.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>long tried in vain to get Sands to develop more of its site. &#8220;The buyer might be more willing to consider developing it, or at least selling it off to someone who will,&#8221; he told the paper. According to the <em>Morning Call<\/em>, <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> has been quietly shopping the megaresort around for three years. It&#8217;s surprising it took him so long to find a taker. The MGM revelation comes as the <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong> Legislature <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsworks.org\/index.php\/local\/item\/102006-pa-governor-still-sees-promise-in-online-gaming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">takes up consideration<\/a> of <strong>Internet<\/strong> gambling &#8212; poison to Adelson, who sent a lackey to testify against it. MGM, of course, is already involved in I-gaming by dint of its <strong>Borgata<\/strong> ownership. (Keystone State Gov. <strong>Tom Wolf<\/strong> [D] <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcall.com\/news\/nationworld\/pennsylvania\/mc-wolf-gambling-expansion-revenue-20170307-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">keeps calling for increased revenue<\/a> to cover a $150 million budget hole but is no help whatsoever in explaining from where he&#8217;ll get the money.)<\/p>\n<p>It was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uspoker.com\/blog\/mgm-sands-bethlehem-casino\/16714\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">business as usual<\/a> at Sands Bethlehem &#8230; hosting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcall.com\/entertainment\/mc-gp-skindustry-tattoo-expo-20170308-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the annual tattoo convention<\/a>. As for the <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em>, it continues to pretend this story isn&#8217;t happening.<\/p>\n<p>* &#8220;Casino license? Don\u2019t need one. Alternative tax payment? I\u2019ll pass. Power plant debt? Not my problem. Fees to spruce up the neighborhood? No thanks,&#8221; writes <strong>Wayne Parry<\/strong> of <em>The Associated <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Straub.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"80\" height=\"89\" \/>Press<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/story\/money\/2017\/03\/07\/atlantic-city-casino-owner-fights-rules-others-meet\/98851896\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">describing maverick casino owner<\/a> <strong>Glenn Straub<\/strong>, whose latest gambit is to opt out of the PILOT program (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) to which all other casinos subscribe. \u201cI\u2019d be broke,\u201d is Straub&#8217;s explanation for his fierce dissent from the status quo, adding, &#8220;They don\u2019t know how to\u00a0<em>not\u00a0<\/em>rape you. It\u2019s like when you come to <strong>New Jersey<\/strong>, you have to take all your clothes off and burn all your money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given that outlook, one wonders why Straub persists with his reinvention of <strong>Revel<\/strong> as <strong>Ten<\/strong>. Surely a man of his accomplishments and years doesn&#8217;t need the hassle. (Straub&#8217;s people will tell you that <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14295\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revel_0409-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revel_0409-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revel_0409-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/revel_0409.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>too.) He could &#8212; and might &#8212; lay off Revel on prospective casino operator <strong>Robert Landino<\/strong>, but the latter, who&#8217;s allegedly being investigated by the <strong>FBI<\/strong> for unrelated business dealings, would have a harder time getting licensed than Straub. In fact there&#8217;s no reason to believe Straub wouldn&#8217;t get licensed (as <strong>Morris Bailey<\/strong> was at <strong>Resorts Atlantic City<\/strong>) as landlord. He just doesn&#8217;t feel it&#8217;s necessary, even an affront.<\/p>\n<p>For the state&#8217;s part, <strong>New Jersey Casino Control Commission<\/strong> Chairman <strong>Matt Levinson<\/strong> says the long-deferred reopening of Revel as &#8220;Ten&#8221; would be happening &#8230; if Straub would stop suing the state. Considering how strongly held Straub&#8217;s convictions in these matters are, and how cheaply he got Revel, it seems almost inevitable that he&#8217;s going to flip it rather than bow to the Garden State.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> has big plans for the <strong>Palms<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/station-casinos-outlines-plans-new-slots-upgrades-palms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">including a reconfiguration of the gaming floor<\/a> that will make room for 280 more slot machines. As we mentioned, the long-suffering buffet (or maybe it is the diners who suffer) is due for a makeover, but that will have to wait until the cafe is fixed. We commend Station for working so hard to put its stamp on the newest member of the family.<\/p>\n<p>* If you enjoy a good paradox, try to explain why <strong>Macao<\/strong> has added 330 gambling tables since late 2013 and yet dealers are currently at their lowest workforce size in the same period.
