For instance, the company has 100,000 square feet of gaming at <strong>Bellagio<\/strong> but you won&#8217;t spot so much as a pair of dice in the ad, yet MGM claims that its shows and restaurants \u201cform the nexus across the company\u2019s 27 distinctive resort destinations.\u201d Gambling? That&#8217;s so 2008. There&#8217;s 100% more <strong>Cirque du Soleil<\/strong> than gaming in the commercials, except in the <strong>YouTube<\/strong> version, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/marketing-experts-offer-mixed-views-of-new-mgm-ad-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">which devotes a whole two seconds to gambling<\/a>. True, you can get the casino experience close to home nowadays but the casino floor remains ubiquitous and unavoidable in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>. For instance, <strong>Aria<\/strong> reverted to the old-school business model of making hotel guests trek through the gaming floor to get to their rooms &#8212; a mentality that one thought had gone out with Bellagio. MGM may derive &#8216;only&#8217; 40% of its revenue from gambling but you don&#8217;t see it building any casino-free hotels on the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong>, unless you count <strong>Vdara<\/strong>,<\/p>\n<p>One gaming analyst took the ads in stride, saying, <!--more-->&#8220;We have known for a while that more and more of the revenue is coming from the hospitality side, so it shouldn\u2019t be shocking.\u201d Retorted <strong>ULCA<\/strong> professor of marketing <strong>Aimee Drolet Rossi<\/strong>,\u00a0\u201cUse of profanity, explicit or implied, only gets attention for a <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1520\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Aria-low-angle-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Aria-low-angle-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Aria-low-angle-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Aria-low-angle.jpg 591w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>moment and is not a sustained brand communication strategy. It\u2019s also a mistake for the parent brand MGM which is more than just a holy shit business.\u201d She&#8217;s referring to some not-so-catchy MGM phrases as\u00a0\u2018The world\u2019s leading producer of OMG&#8221; (so long, Baby Boomers) and\u00a0\u201cWe are not in the hotel business, We are in the holy sh*t business.\u2019\u2019 Although &#8220;The right amount of wrong&#8221; is cited as a precedent, it&#8217;s hella catchier than MGM&#8217;s clunky equivalents. They&#8217;re supposed to be smartest guys in the room and this is what they came up with? OMG, dude!<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Drolet Rossi counseled patience, telling the <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em>,\u00a0\u201cYou need to be consistent with your campaign over a long period of time.\u201d From where we sit, these new &#8216;catchphrases&#8217; aren&#8217;t going to cut it over the long haul.<\/p>\n<p>* Casino gambling soon won&#8217;t be the only tourist amenity you can partake of around the clock in Sin City. Marijuana dispensaries <a href=\"https:\/\/lasvegassun.com\/news\/2017\/sep\/21\/southern-nevada-24-hour-pot-dispensaries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">are moving toward the 24\/7 business model<\/a>. Or as <strong>Oasis Cannabis<\/strong> CEO <strong>Ben Sillitoe<\/strong> puts it, alluding to his casino neighbors, \u201cWe are on <strong>Industrial Road<\/strong>. There are 24-hour <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14730\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sisolak.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sisolak.jpg 210w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sisolak-150x143.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/>businesses all around us. \u2026 It makes sense operationally.\u201d <strong>Clark County<\/strong> Comissioner\u00a0<strong>Steve Sisolak<\/strong> has emerged as an unlikely spokesman for pot around the clock, saying, \u201cRight now they have to shut down [for four hours], count everything up, come back an hour or two later and start the whole thing up again.\u201d His colleague, <strong>Chris Giunchigliani<\/strong> put it best, saying, \u201cBusiness model-wise, we\u2019re a 24-hour town. So it makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>* Although the <strong>National Indian Gaming Association<\/strong> is taking a reserved status on sports betting, that didn&#8217;t prevent the <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong>\u00a0from having a &#8220;Kumbaya&#8221; moment yesterday in <strong>Phoenix<\/strong>. \u201cWorking with NIGA and the tribal community is a top priority for AGA as we seek an end to the federal ban that\u2019s driving a $150 billion illegal sports betting market,\u201d said the AGA&#8217;s PR veep, <strong>Sara Slane<\/strong>. Whether Slane&#8217;s conciliatory words move NIGA President <strong>Ernest Stevens<\/strong> off the fence in the battle over the <strong>Bradley Act<\/strong> remains to be seen.<\/p>\n<p>* New upstate gaming in <strong>New York<\/strong> continues to lay an egg. <strong>Rivers Casino<\/strong>, in <strong>Schenectady<\/strong>, is doing only three-fourths of the <i>lowest<\/i> revenue projection for 2017. Really? Then was <strong>Neil Bluhm<\/strong> just pulling numbers out of his ass when <strong>Rush Street Gaming<\/strong>\u00a0issued Rivers&#8217; financial forecast? One thing&#8217;s for certain: It&#8217;s not too soon for revisionist history. Assemblyman and apologist <strong>Phil Steck<\/strong> said, I never saw the casino as being a primary engine of economic development.&#8221; Oh really? Understandably, it&#8217;s getting a soft opening. This isn&#8217;t the sort of event one trumpets, in light of recent history. The damaged second floor is almost 65,000 square feet in size &#8212; worth keeping in mind at a time when the Japanese Diet is considering limiting Nipponese casino floors to 15,000 square feet (one-tenth the size of Aria&#8217;s casino floor). The stigma of gunplay has largely lifted from Resorts World, where admissions and hotel occupancy are approaching pre-shooting levels.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Lawrence Ho<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asgam.com\/news\/item\/3696-%20\u00e2%C2%80%C2%9Ccluster-potential\u00e2%C2%80%C2%9D-to-drive-tigre-de-cristal-forward.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">has hardly been hurting for business<\/a> at <strong>Tigre de Cristal,<\/strong> near <strong>Vladivostok<\/strong>, but the arrival of two <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-12174\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Lawrence-Ho-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Lawrence-Ho-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Lawrence-Ho-2-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Lawrence-Ho-2.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>competitors in 2019 is expected to improve revenues, due to the tried-and-true &#8220;cluster effect&#8221; in the casino biz. Cambodian operator <strong>NagaCorp<\/strong> and casino newbie <strong>Diamond Fortune Holdings<\/strong> are the interlopers. Ho is also looking to <strong>Vladimir Putin<\/strong> for help.
