He just released an investor note detailing the atmosphere following the tragic events of October 1. I don&#8217;t have much to add, so I will take the liberty of quoting Santarelli i<em>n extenso<\/em>. As far as the forward-looking aspects of the tragedy are concerned, he predicts &#8220;<strong>1)<\/strong> a push for some <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16832\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/The-Strip-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/The-Strip-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/The-Strip-150x97.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/The-Strip.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>permanent tweaks to security measures, <strong>2)<\/strong> an increase in operator costs related to enhanced security measures, and <strong>3)<\/strong> a likely softening, to some degree, in peak period demand (New Year\u2019s\/Events) &#8230;\u00a0While there is a different feeling in Las Vegas since Sunday night and hotel security is heightened with a more visible police presence on and around casino floors, as well as some <!--more-->entrance checks, its [<em>sic<\/em>] optically business as usual. We&#8217;ve seen solid midweek volumes on casino floors and in restaurants, as well as healthy usage of event spaces. Pedestrian traffic on the Strip appears normal, with automobile traffic a bit congested <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15336\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Strip.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Strip.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Strip-150x109.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>given the re-routings caused by closures of portions of <strong>Las Vegas Blvd South<\/strong>. Said simply, while the environment is more sedate, it feels like business as usual &#8230;\u00a0Our discussions with hotel inventory\/yield management contacts have indicated a surge in cancellations, though this is typical behavior and clearly expected. Given the nature of the tragedy, neither we, nor those with whom we&#8217;ve spoken, believe the event will create a lasting impact on demand &#8230;\u00a0We anticipate, over the near term, big events, such as New Year\u2019s Eve, could see demand softness, though, as is the case in other markets, this tends to be a short term impact.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As far as the &#8220;more permanent tweaks in security&#8221; are concerned, we second that emotion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As we mentioned earlier, Deutsche Bank analyst Carlo Santarelli is in Las Vegas this week.
