On the first anniversary (roughly) of the arrest of the Crown 18 in <strong>China<\/strong>, the casino giant stands <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-crown-resorts-scandal\/australias-crown-hit-by-accusations-of-poker-machine-fixing-shares-tumble-idUSKBN1CN0BM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accused of rigging video poker machines<\/a>. <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16879\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/James-Packer-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/James-Packer-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/James-Packer-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/James-Packer.jpg 340w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Parliamentary lone wolf and anti-gambling crusader <strong>Andrew Wilkie<\/strong> released a whistleblower video, which will prompt an investigation by Australian regulators. &#8220;On the recording, unidentified people whose faces were heavily pixelated accuse Crown\u2019s casino in <strong>Melbourne<\/strong> of fixing poker machines by removing built-in controls designed to regulate gambling rates,&#8221; reports <strong>Reuters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s just the tip of the iceberg. Accusations of winking at domestic violence and drug use, as well as encouraging customers to <!--more-->disguise their appearance to get around anti-money-laundering regulations were made. Wilkie said the bundle of allegations, if true, betrayed &#8220;a systemic problem&#8221; with <strong>James Packer<\/strong>&#8216;s casinos. Crown denied the charges and urged Wilkie to come clean to authorities. That being said, it wouldn&#8217;t be the first time Crown has been accused of stepping over the line of what&#8217;s permissible. For his part, Wilkie is among those who deplore <strong>Australia<\/strong>&#8216;s gaming industry for having 20% of the world&#8217;s slot machines for 1% of its populace. It&#8217;s nice to know that <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>&#8216;s sense of whimsy remains intact.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0Not even an extra weekend day was able to save <strong>Louisiana<\/strong> casinos from a <strong>Hurricane Harvey<\/strong>-propelled swoon. The Pelican State was down 4% overall. <strong>Lake Charles<\/strong> and <strong>Baton Rouge<\/strong> were <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5087\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/lauberge_exterior-300x231.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/lauberge_exterior-300x231.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/lauberge_exterior-150x115.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/lauberge_exterior.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>hit the hardest, down 11% and 10%, respectively. <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>L&#8217;Auberge Lake Charles<\/strong> ($21 million) took it on the chin, plummeting 19.5%, while <strong>Isle of Capri Lake Charles<\/strong> ($8.5 million) dove 15%. By contrast, <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong> was flat at $22 million. <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s Delta Downs fell 9% to $13 million.<\/p>\n<p>In Baton Rouge, <strong>Belle of Baton Rouge<\/strong> was sent reeling, off 25.5% to $4 million. <strong>Gaming &amp; Leisure Properties<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Casino Rouge<\/strong> grossed $5 million, an 11% falloff. <strong>L&#8217;Auberge Baton Rouge<\/strong> was only down 3%, to $14 million. Outlying Boyd properties <strong>Evangeline Downs<\/strong> (-7%) and <strong>Amelia Belle<\/strong> (-7%) grossed $6.5 million and $3.5 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Harrah&#8217;s New Orleans<\/strong> actually saw a 4% increase in business, to $25 million, as did <strong>Churchill Downs<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Fair Grounds<\/strong>, up 5.5% to <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7957\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Harrahs_NO-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Harrahs_NO-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Harrahs_NO-150x109.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Harrahs_NO.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>$3.5 million. Pinnacle&#8217;s <strong>Boomtown New Orleans<\/strong> slipped 2% for a $9.5 million gross while Boyd&#8217;s <strong>Treasure Chest<\/strong> was down 1%, grossing $9 million. Up in <strong>Shreveport<\/strong>\/<strong>Bossier City<\/strong>, Boyd&#8217;s <strong>Sam&#8217;s Town<\/strong> saw a 4% gain, to $6 million, but that paled next to <strong>Horseshoe Bossier City<\/strong>&#8216;s 11% and $16 million. <strong>Eldorado Shreveport<\/strong> was hardest hit, falling 165 to $9 million, while <strong>Margaritaville<\/strong> shot up 14.5% to $13 million. <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Louisiana Downs<\/strong> grossed a dramatic 24% higher, for $4 million. Pinnacle&#8217;s <strong>Boomtown Bossier<\/strong> was off 1.5%, to $5 million, while <strong>Diamond Jack&#8217;s<\/strong> failed to sparkle, plunging 13.5% to bottom out at $3 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crown Resorts just can&#8217;t stay out of trouble.
