NCAAA<\/em>, the legal joust that could lead to the downfall of the <strong>Bradley Act<\/strong> and open up the land to legalized sports betting. The arguments made before the <strong>Supreme Court<\/strong> had little to do <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-20693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SCOTUS.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SCOTUS.jpeg 282w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SCOTUS-150x95.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 282px) 100vw, 282px\" \/>with handle and point spreads, and everything to do with esoteric concepts like &#8220;commandeering.&#8221; The arguments made for and against the Bradley Act <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/oral_arguments\/argument_transcripts\/2017\/16-476_4fb4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">can be read here<\/a> in all their glory. Justices <strong>Anthony Kennedy<\/strong> and <strong>Stephen Breyer<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/news\/nation-world\/sns-bc-us--supreme-court-sports-betting-20171204-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">showed sympathy for Garden State<\/a>, with the former saying that\u00a0citizens of the state of <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> are bound to obey a law that the state doesn&#8217;t want but that the federal government compels the state to have.&#8221; There was pushback from Justices <strong>Sonia Sotomayor<\/strong> and <strong>Elena Kagan<\/strong>, with the latter stating,\u00a0&#8220;All the time the federal government takes some kind of action, passes a law, and then says to the states: &#8216;You know what? We&#8217;ve got this. You can&#8217;t do anything,'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Hill<\/em> found the high court&#8217;s mood &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/363128-supreme-court-weighs-new-jerseys-pursuit-of-sports-betting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">skeptical<\/a>&#8221; toward the Bradley Act. Chief Justice <strong>John Roberts<\/strong> was flummoxed when\u00a0<!--more-->Deputy Solicitor General <strong>Jeffrey Wall<\/strong> claimed <strong>Uncle Sam<\/strong> would be just fine with unregulated sports betting.\u00a0\u201cYou have no problem if there&#8217;s no prohibition at all and <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-20692\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Supreme-Court.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Supreme-Court.jpeg 259w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Supreme-Court-150x112.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 259px) 100vw, 259px\" \/>anybody can engage in any kind of gambling they want? A 12-year-old can come into the casino? You&#8217;re not serious about that.\u201d Wall claimed he was on the level. (Only eight of nine justices participated in the hearing, with <strong>Clarence Thomas<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/sports\/betting\/supreme-court-hints-it-could-side-with-state-on-sports-betting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lurking under his usual cone of silence<\/a>.) In a conference call following the hearing, the <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong> forecast several possible outcomes, including a baby-splitting whereby only parts of the Bradley Act are struck down, but sufficient to permit wider sports wagering.<\/p>\n<p>New Jersey Gov. <strong>Chris Christie<\/strong> (R), sporting a pink necktie, was buoyant after the hearing.\u00a0AGA\u00a0President <strong>Geoff Freeman<\/strong>, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2017\/12\/04\/millions-already-betting-on-sports-using-offshore-websites-american-gaming-association-ceo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">made this his signature issue<\/a>, took a <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14856\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/christie.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/christie.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/christie-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>(premature?) victory lap, saying states had moved\u00a0\u201cone giant step closer to offering a new product that Americans demand.\u201d\u00a0\u201cThis is the fear of every governor \u2014 that we\u2019ll be at the mercy of the federal government and that they\u2019ll make us pay for it,\u201d Christie said of commandeering. He added, &#8220;today it\u2019s sports gaming, tomorrow it\u2019s something else.\u201d\u00a0\u201cI heard a court that is suspicious of the federal government\u2019s overreach in this case,\u201d Freeman added optimistically.<\/p>\n<p>Legal expert <strong>Daniel Wallach<\/strong> expects SCOTUS to rule 6-3 in Christie&#8217;s favor (as does <strong>Global Market Advisors<\/strong>) presumably with Justice <strong>Ruth Bader Ginsburg<\/strong> joining Kagan and Sotomayor (they formed a pro-NCAA phalanx at the hearing). We agree. Yeah, we just went there. Let&#8217;s see if SCOTUS makes fools of us when it rules in June. In the meantime, as <a href=\"http:\/\/app.criticalmention.com\/app\/#clip\/view\/31212350?token=7d754bfd-a3ab-4962-84ab-2733d7cff931\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Freeman joked<\/a>, &#8220;It&#8217;s much bigger than Chris Christie.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* Good news for high rollers: The <strong>El Cortez<\/strong> has raised blackjack table limits to $1,000 for regular tables and $2K for high-limit tables.<\/p>\n<p>* After three years of study, gaming expert <strong>Steve Bourie<\/strong> says he has determined the payback percentages at <strong>Seminole Tribe<\/strong> casinos (not counting multi-denomination machines). Dismissing as an urban legend the belief that <strong>Hard Rock International<\/strong>&#8216;s casinos only pay out 60% on slots, Bourie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americancasinoguide.com\/slot-machines\/an-analysis-of-slot-machine-payback-percentages-at-seminole-casinos-in-florida.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">offers a detailed breakdown<\/a> of which machines pay out how much.
