Today, I was going to file my quota of one Steve Wynn<\/strong> story per every 24 hours, but what to make of this<\/a>? Another court filing against Wynn has surfaced, as well as the disclosure that the Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em> knew about allegations involving Wynn in 1998 and \"\"quashed the story. (Ah, the high ethical standards of the Sherman Frederick<\/strong> era.) Not only did the paper\u00a0require that the two witnesses in question undergo polygraph tests<\/a>, standard practice at the National Enquirer<\/em> — evidently at then-Editor Thomas Mitchell<\/strong>‘s behest — one of Frederick’s\u00a0underlings ordered then-reporter Carrie Geer Thevenot<\/strong> to delete the story from the R-J<\/em>‘s antiquated computer system. Thevenot, now metro editor, kept a hard copy of the story, saying she “always wanted to tell these women\u2019s stories. That\u2019s why I saved this file for 20 years.\u201d Frederick is pleading amnesia<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cIt was hard enough to come forward in the first place and reveal this stuff to my family, and then to have the newspaper curb the whole story, I feel I got silenced,\u201d says alleged victim Cynthia Simmons<\/strong>, who flunked the lie-detector test (she says she was under too much stress), although another, corroborative witness passed.<\/p>\n

“According to a court document and interviews with multiple sources,” Wynn pressured one of his waitress for oral sex, offering such come-ons as he’d\u00a0\u201cnever had a grandmother before\u201d and wanted the experience. Ewwwwww! Too much information, Steve!\u00a0\u201cYou have so many new and young girls to choose from, and you know having sex with you makes me feel terrible,\u201d the \"\"anonymous victim responded, according to witness Earlene Wiggins <\/strong>(since deceased). “Why don’t you just leave me alone.” Because he’s Steve Wynn, that’s why. He’s alleged to have slapped her rear end twice in full view of customers.\u00a0\u201c\u2018I have eight children to support,” she says she pleaded. “I need this money. And it\u2019s not right for the other cocktail waitresses,\u2019 He only laughed. That\u2019s what he does \u2014 laugh.\u201d On three occasions she fellated Wynn — not forcibly,\u00a0\u201c[b]ut I felt so uncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wonder why nobody has used the Wynn Resorts<\/strong> hotline to rat out Steve Wynn? When the grandmother in question went to her supervisor to complain, she was allegedly told to put out or lose her job.\u00a0\u201cI did it willingly, because I felt like I had to,\u201d she will say of the forced fornication.\u00a0\u201cI didn\u2019t really want to. I was afraid for my job.\u201d In a mea culpa<\/em> timeline published by the R-J<\/em>, waitresses were dispatched to high-roller villas in 1995 and 1996. What was Wynn Resorts running? A casino\u00a0or a white-slavery racket? (Wynn was not the only person being forcibly serviced, Wiggins alleged.)\u00a0\u201cAcquiescence is not consent.\u00a0Even if someone goes along, it doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re willing and enthusiastic,”\u00a0Indiana University<\/strong> law professor Jennifer A. Drobac<\/strong> told the newspaper. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to see how Wynn keeps his job amidst all this, let alone<\/a> his Massachusetts<\/strong> casino as the allegations continue to tumble forth.<\/p>\n

If the R-J<\/em> is tardily making amends for the ’98 cover-up, what’s the excuse for the deafening silence coming out of the Las Vegas Sun<\/em>? It’s big gaming story is Luxor<\/strong>‘s new e-sports lounge<\/a>, which is not exactly breaking news. As for Wynn, are you sticking to that story that it’s a massive conspiracy<\/a> orchestrated by your ex-wife?<\/p>\n
