Through some clever <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7957\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Harrahs_NO-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Harrahs_NO-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Harrahs_NO-150x109.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Harrahs_NO.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>&#8212; one might even say Machievallian &#8212; maneuvers by then-CEO <strong>Phil Satre<\/strong>, both restrictions were overturned. Now <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> CEO <strong>Mark Frissora<\/strong> is trying a similar gambit, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theadvocate.com\/new_orleans\/news\/article_80cea0bc-07a3-11e8-8861-3b30a8ef52c3.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">requesting permission to build a 24-story hotel tower<\/a>. It would be built in a style intended to harmonize with the buildings in the immediate area, and would have a nightclub and more restaurants. The $340 million expansion, would not, however, have additional gaming positions. While you might expect this initiative to go down like a load of coal with Harrah&#8217;s competitors, it&#8217;s not. In fact,\u00a0\u201cThere seems to be a lot of support,\u201d said state Rep. <strong>Walt Leger III<\/strong> (D). State Senate President <strong>John Alario<\/strong> (R) is also supportive but has a caveat:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019d like to know: What else is involved? I just want to make sure the state\u2019s interest is protected. I always like to see the fine print.\u201d He does well to be concerned, as Satre was a master of the fine print, to the detriment of the state&#8217;s political establishment.<\/p>\n<p>The hotel addition is thought to be a done deal since it has the backing\u00a0of Speaker of the House <strong>Taylor Barras<\/strong> (R). Other aspects of the hotel would be a rooftop pool and a canopy over <strong>Fulton Street<\/strong>, to facilitate <!--more-->open-air entertainment, Caesars says it needs a new hotel because its current one is booked to the rafters, forcing it to send potential guests elsewhere. As for the eschewal of a <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6025\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/harrahsnightsign-300x222.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/harrahsnightsign-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/harrahsnightsign-150x111.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/harrahsnightsign.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>casino expansion, that&#8217;s a sop to lawmakers who frown upon gambling. As state Rep. <strong>Sherman Mack<\/strong> (R) says,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m not in favor of expanding gaming. But it\u2019s my understanding it\u2019s not.&#8221; As for getting the approval of the city, Caesars is offering to assume the costs of additional police and fire services for the next decade. It might have to pony up more to get Mayor <strong>Mitch Landrieu<\/strong>&#8216;s support. Incoming City Council member <strong>Helena Moreno<\/strong> (D) likes the subsidy &#8212; provided that it&#8217;s indefinite.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in <strong>Louisiana<\/strong> &#8212; <strong>Bossier City<\/strong>, to be precise &#8212; a casino is contemplating up and moving to the southern part of the state and away from the intense competition of its current location. But couldn&#8217;t <strong>Diamond Jacks<\/strong> just wait until the Legislature decides on whether to allow casinos to come ashore? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktbs.com\/news\/diamondjacks-casino-upgrade-or-move\/article_ebf5cf0e-0abf-11e8-ae33-bb0bacc038ee.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Evidently not<\/a>. Owner <strong>Peninsula Pacific<\/strong> also <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7958\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Louisiana_Flag-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Louisiana_Flag-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Louisiana_Flag-150x96.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Louisiana_Flag.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>can&#8217;t go anywhere unless the voters of the parish in question give it the go-ahead at the polls. The mooted locale is\u00a0<strong>Tangipahoa Parish<\/strong>. Making the first overture, Peninsula Pacific wrote,\u00a0\u201cLouisianans deserve the best and we look forward to creating a destination that is both fun, successful and rewarding to the community and the state.\u201d Since Diamond Jacks isn&#8217;t exactly an economic powerhouse in its current location, ownership may have to make a stronger case than it currently has.<\/p>\n<p>In case you missed it, <strong>Laguna Pueblo<\/strong>&#8216;s deal for <strong>Isle Grand Palais<\/strong> on <strong>Lake Charles<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/1129446\/new-mexico-tribe-fails-on-bid-to-buy-louisiana-casino.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">has turned turtle<\/a>. That leaves incoming owner <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong>\u00a0the question of whether two maintain two properties on Lake Charles (<strong>L&#8217;Auberge du Lac<\/strong>\u00a0being the other) or trying to find a new buyer.
