It demanded that Wynn Resorts&#8217; license be pulled and the project awarded to Mohegan Sun. That would certainly solve <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16833\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/wynn_night-full-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/wynn_night-full-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/wynn_night-full-150x81.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/wynn_night-full.jpg 1001w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>one worry: Who&#8217;d take on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enr.com\/articles\/43950-construction-on-24b-wynn-boston-harbor-continues-after-steve-wynn-resigns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the $2.4 billion project<\/a> if Wynn Resorts is deemed unsuitable to operate in <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>?\u00a0 A Mohegan legal brief argued that\u00a0\u201cthe deck was stacked from the start. The entire licensing proceeding was infected with bias toward Wynn, thus the Court must vacate the entire process, and order MGC to begin the process anew.\u201d Replied the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong>,\u00a0\u201cThat the commission\u2019s licensing decisions were somehow \u2018shot through with bias\u2019 towards Wynn is pure fiction.\u201d Local alarmists are arguing in favor of keeping Wynn in place, contending that the $2.4 billion <strong>Wynn Boston Harbor<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/ggbnews.com\/issue\/vol-16-no-6-february-12-2018\/article\/wynn-quits-his-company\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">could stand empty for as much as 10 years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Macao<\/strong>, the company is in much better shape vis-a-vis <!--more-->licensing, as Steve Wynn holds no ownership stake in <strong>Wynn Macau<\/strong>, a small but salient point. As one gaming analyst told <em>Nikkei Asian Review<\/em>,\u00a0\u201cIt would be ridiculous for the Macau government to take away the license because of the conduct of one individual.\u201d Were it not for the concealment of Steve Wynn&#8217;s payment of $7.5 million in hush money to a manicurist over a paternity claim, his eponymous company might not even be in trouble in Massachusetts. As it stands, it has a lot of questions to answer.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Ohio<\/strong> will have to look to its right flank now that <strong>Mount Airy Casino<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcall.com\/business\/mc-biz-pa-third-mini-casino-auction-20180208-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has snared a mini-casino license<\/a> in <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong>&#8216;s western <strong>Lawrence County<\/strong>. It will pose a competitive threat to <strong>Hollywood Casino Mahoning Valley<\/strong>, which is ineligible for table games. The magic number for Mount Airy was $21,888,888 &#8212; much less than <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> and <strong>Stadium Casino<\/strong> paid for their minis but still <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5553\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Pennsylvania-064-300x219.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Pennsylvania-064-300x219.gif 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Pennsylvania-064-150x109.gif 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Pennsylvania-064.gif 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>well more than the minimum $7.5 million. (The commonwealth is making out like a bandit on these auctions.) <strong>Parx Casino<\/strong> and <strong>Sands Bethlehem<\/strong> also bid but came up short.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Airy&#8217;s interest is music to the ears of Lawrence, which has been seeking a casino since 2004, back when a racino was mooted for the area, bounced from owner to owner and was ultimately nixed by regulators. <strong>Spectrum Gaming Group<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Joseph Weinert<\/strong>, noting the geyser of funds stemming from the licensed auctions, predicted that &#8220;this mini-casino scheme that Pennsylvania has implemented, rather quickly I might say, is going to be imitated in other states in the foreseeable future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>* Rest assured, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/world\/2018\/02\/12\/suspected-poacher-mauled-death-eaten-pack-lions-south-africa\/328580002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">there <i>is<\/i> justice<\/a> in this world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Even as Steve Wynn was on his way out at Wynn Resorts, the casino he bested for the Boston-area\u00a0gaming\u00a0concession, Mohegan Sun, was launching a legal counterattack.
