It&#8217;s the capital derived therefrom that&#8217;s enabling the <strong>Poarch Band of Creek Indians<\/strong> to make a $1.3 billion purchase of <strong>Sands Bethlehem<\/strong>. The tribe is <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11062\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/bethlehem.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/bethlehem.jpg 299w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/bethlehem-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/>succeeding where <strong>Tropicana Entertainment<\/strong> and <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> failed. <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> said,\u00a0&#8220;Sands Bethlehem has become one of the leading regional entertainment and gaming destinations in the <strong>United States<\/strong> and we are extremely proud of the positive contributions the property has made for <strong>Bethlehem<\/strong>,&#8221; without explaining his motives for selling. However, it was always the red-headed stepchild of the <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> family so maybe the price was finally right.<\/p>\n<p>Although the Poarch Band&#8217;s <strong>Wind Creek Hospitality<\/strong> already owns poker rooms in <strong>Florida<\/strong>, casinos in <!--more-->the <strong>Caribbean<\/strong> (on <strong>Aruba<\/strong> and <strong>Cura\u00e7ao<\/strong>) and\u00a0three\u00a0<strong>Alabama<\/strong> casinos (and even manages the <strong>Wa She Shu Casino<\/strong> in rural <strong>Nevada<\/strong>), the acquisition of Sands Bethlehem settles any remaining doubt as to whether they&#8217;re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcall.com\/business\/mc-biz-sands-wind-creek-casino-20180308-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a force with which to be reckoned<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cThey\u2019ve developed some nice facilities in Alabama. This obviously is a major leap for the tribe, not just in terms of the size and performance of the asset, but also stepping into the U.S. commercial gaming industry,\u201d said <strong>Spectrum Gaming Group<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Joseph Weinert<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Since the approval process could take as long as a year, Wind Creek is <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11964\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/sheldonadelson.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/sheldonadelson.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/sheldonadelson-125x150.jpg 125w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>out of the mini-casino derby unless Adelson buys one for them &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharonherald.com\/news\/local_news\/locals-hope-casino-is-on-a-roll-for-the-area\/article_df907f54-20d9-11e8-ad47-67f18f7ee6f9.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">which isn&#8217;t out of the question<\/a>. One <strong>Wall Street<\/strong> analyst, <strong>John Cunnane<\/strong>, was skeptical, given Wind Creek&#8217;s inexperience with table games, Sands&#8217; meat and drink.\u00a0\u201cThis is jumping into the pool at the deepest end,\u201d he told a reporter.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was so closely guarded that Sands didn&#8217;t bring it up at the <strong>JP Morgan<\/strong> investor forum. Mostly LVS underlings talked about <strong>Macao<\/strong>, where anticipated labor-cost increases are expected to be offset by higher gaming revenue, which &#8220;will be driven by greater transportation infrastructure, more hotel inventory, and Chinese consumers\u2019 greater propensity to travel.&#8221; Next year will see major disruption at <strong>Sands Cotai Central<\/strong> as it converted into <strong>The Londoner<\/strong>. In additional to the Sands Bethlehem windfall, which analyst <strong>Joseph Greff<\/strong> expects to be plowed into <strong>Asia<\/strong>, the company continues to look for takers for its <strong>Marina Bay Sands<\/strong> retail mall, for which the company only was $2 billion, maybe three.<\/p>\n<p>Sands thinks <strong>Japan<\/strong> will be a gaming market second only to Macao and\u00a0that the political will is there to get it done by June. The company &#8220;sees a lot of support within Japan to get something done and move forward with convention based integrated resorts. The company would <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14928\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/abe.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/abe.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/abe-150x114.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>be interested in <strong>Osaka<\/strong>, <strong>Tokyo<\/strong>, and <strong>Yokohama<\/strong>, and estimates a property in any of these cities could generate $10b in revenue.&#8221;\u00a0That sounds like a stretch &#8212; but maybe not if the <strong>Komeito Party<\/strong> gets its wish to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-03-06\/abe-coalition-partner-seeks-to-limit-number-of-casinos-to-three\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">confine Japanese gambling to three megaresorts<\/a>. Since Prime Minister <strong>Shinzo Abe<\/strong> can&#8217;t get anything done in the Diet without Komeito&#8217;s assent, the minority party stands a good chance of getting its wish.\u00a0&#8220;For Komeito, I think it will be extremely hard to go higher than three,&#8221; said a key party member.\u00a0&#8220;If it goes well we could increase it a bit. Komeito is not saying three should be the limit forever, but let\u2019s try three to start with.&#8221; At least Komeito is tractable to low taxes, the better to compensate for entrance fees, which the party thinks should be higher than Abe&#8217;s proposed $19.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>MGM Springfield<\/strong> will have a long runway, as the <strong>Foxwoods Resort Casino<\/strong>\/<strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong> satellite casino <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/east-windsor-connecticut-casino-wont-open-until-late-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">won&#8217;t be ready<\/a> until December 2019 at the earliest. And that&#8217;s assuming that the federal government doesn&#8217;t intervene nor that Gov. <strong>Dannel Malloy<\/strong> (D) <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-19480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/east-windsor-casino-rendering-300x169.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/east-windsor-casino-rendering-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/east-windsor-casino-rendering-150x84.png 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/east-windsor-casino-rendering.png 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>doesn&#8217;t make construction contingent upon explicit federal approval. &#8220;Here&#8217;s the bottom line: We know that we are on the right side of this,&#8221; opined Mohegan Tribal Chairman <strong>Kevin Brown<\/strong>. Even so, Brown better have some &#8216;wow&#8217; factor in his new casino, the better to get <strong>Connecticut<\/strong> residents out of the habit of driving past it to <strong>Springfield<\/strong>. Senior Deputy Attorney General <strong>John Michela<\/strong> said that Moody, who has two burglaries and three petty larcenies on his rap sheet, &#8220;seems to be incapable of staying out of trouble in <strong>Nevada<\/strong> casinos.\u201d Preach it, brother.<\/p>\n<p>* A driver &#8220;high on drugs&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/local\/las-vegas-police-say-intoxicated-driver-rammed-stratosphere\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rammed his car<\/a> into the <strong>Stratosphere<\/strong> this morning.
