This is a mixed blessing, as the auctions to date have raised far more money than legislators thought they would. However, this is the second time they gave a casino and nobody <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-17339\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/pennsylvania_pa_state_capitol-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/pennsylvania_pa_state_capitol-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/pennsylvania_pa_state_capitol-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/pennsylvania_pa_state_capitol.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>came &#8212; not even new contenders <strong>Valley Forge Casino<\/strong> and <strong>Lady Luck Nemacolin<\/strong> (which hardly seems like it would be able to afford to bid). After several rounds of auctioning casino licenses, the <em>Morning Call<\/em> asks the pertinent question, &#8220;It also remains unclear whether any other sweet spots for a mini-casino exist across the state.&#8221;\u00a0\u201cThe choice fruit has been picked with respect to the mini-casino locations,\u201d said <strong>Spectrum Gaming Group<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Joseph Weinert<\/strong>. That doesn&#8217;t mean that Keystone State communities aren&#8217;t showing a little ankle, hoping to lure a casino. <strong>State College<\/strong>, <strong>Clearfield County<\/strong> and <strong>Lawrence Township<\/strong> have all been mentioned as possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Sands China<\/strong> is sufficiently uncertain of its concession renewal in <strong>Macao<\/strong> that it&#8217;s <!--more-->counting on the remake of <strong>Sands Cotai<\/strong> into <strong>The Londoner<\/strong> as proof of its commitment to the enclave. How do we know this? Because <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-13387\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Sands-Cotai-Central-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Sands-Cotai-Central-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Sands-Cotai-Central-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Sands-Cotai-Central.jpg 790w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Sands China President <strong>Wilfred Wong<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asgam.com\/news\/item\/4602-sands-china\u00e2%C2%80%C2%99s-us$1-1-billion-londoner-investment-proves-commitment-ahead-of-re-licensing-wong.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">said so<\/a>. The $1.1 billion makeover should be ready by 2020, giving Sands two years to impress City Hall before its concession comes up for review.\u00a0\u201cWhat we as operators and concessionaires have to do is to show our sincerity and hopefully this all counts in the government\u2019s retendering exercise.\u00a0We want to make sure the government understands what we are doing,\u201d said Wong. In addition to making its own little <strong>London<\/strong> in Macao, Sands will be upscaling the megaresort, including adding a <strong>St. Regis<\/strong> condo extension. We hope the latter goes better than <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong>&#8216;s late-term abortion of a St. Regis in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>, still unfinished after 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Las Vegas, Macao is pushing a family-friendly image.\u00a0\u201cWe are now <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sands-Cotai.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sands-Cotai.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Sands-Cotai-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>grasping the [opportunity] to try and build facilities that will appeal both to families and our high-end customers,\u201d Wong told the <em>South China Morning Post<\/em>.\u00a0\u201cNow we see three generations coming together \u2013 the grandparents, the parents and the kids \u2013 and they come in that combination because the parents want the grandparents to look after the grandchildren while they go and play.\u201d It&#8217;s definitely not <strong>Stanley Ho<\/strong>&#8216;s kind of Macao anymore.<\/p>\n<p>* While the <strong>Florida<\/strong> Lege tries to get its act together, the <strong>Seminole Tribe<\/strong> has graciously given it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/news\/politics\/fl-reg-seminole-gambling-agreement-20180418-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a one-year extension<\/a> of the escrow of revenue-sharing funds it&#8217;s been keeping aside for the state.\u00a0\u201cToday, I am proud to\u00a0announce that the state of Florida has reached an agreement with the Seminole Tribe which ensures the tribe\u2019s current commitment remains intact.\u00a0Since I took office, the Seminole compact (the 2010 agreement) <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-17562\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Florida-flag.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Florida-flag.png 275w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Florida-flag-150x100.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/>has generated more than $1.75 billion which has helped our state make historic investments in things like Florida\u2019s education and environment,\u201d announced Gov. <strong>Rick Scott<\/strong> (R). In return for the extension, the Seminoles want continued exclusivity on blackjack, as well as on slot machines outside <strong>Broward County<\/strong> and <strong>Miami-Dade County<\/strong>. Whether lawmakers, who are tangled up in a maze of gambling reforms of their own, will cotton to this remains very much to be seen.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. <strong>Jos\u00e9 Oliva<\/strong> (R) called Scott&#8217;s announcement a &#8220;positive development&#8221; but said it didn&#8217;t rule out a special session of the Lege to iron out various and sundry disagreements on gambling reform. He called current discussions in the state house,\u00a0\u201cmore of a conversation than a negotiation.\u201d Incoming state Senate President <strong>Bill Galvano<\/strong> (R) seconded Oliva&#8217;s remarks.
