Said board rejected Satre &#8212; a short-sighted move that reeks of insecurity. Satre proved himself a skilled helmsman during his tenure as CEO of <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Entertainment<\/strong> &#8212; far better than his successor. Were board members afraid that Satre would turn Wynn Resorts into an up-market Harrah&#8217;s? Did they fear a new broom sweeping clean the crony-ish Wynn corporate culture? Or were they worried that someone with so much gaming experience would overshadow CEO <strong>Matt Maddox<\/strong>? Elaine Wynn believes in him so strongly she&#8217;s willing to sign a two-year hands-off pledge toward future board matters, which says a lot.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Wynn also seeks an \u201cindependent compensation consultant and truly independent legal counsel\u201d to look into <!--more-->ex-Corporate Counsel <strong>Kim Sinatra<\/strong>&#8216;s golden parachute and her collusion in covering up <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>&#8216;s sexual predations. Alluding to <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>, <strong>Nevada<\/strong> and <strong>Macao<\/strong> investigations into <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>&#8216;s priapic pursuits (and the cover-up of a paternity settlement),\u00a0<strong>Jefferies Group<\/strong> Managing Director <strong>David Katz<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12605\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wynn-Macau-4-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wynn-Macau-4-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wynn-Macau-4-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wynn-Macau-4.jpg 318w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>says\u00a0\u201cThe future direction of the company is far from certain.\u00a0The problem is not only that the board is not united, but getting their investigations resolved requires a united board.\u201d The election of Satre would send an unmistakable signal that it&#8217;s a new\u00a0era at Wynn. It would also put an industry giant in place over pygmies like apologist Maddox, hardly the man to steer Wynn Resorts into the 2020s.\u00a0At least one good sign is apparent in the rumored choice of veteran gaming attorney\u00a0<strong>Ellen Whittemore<\/strong> to replace Sinatra. That, plus the appointment of three women to the Wynn board gives one hope for a better future.<\/p>\n<p>* Wearing his other hat as chairman of <strong>International Game Technology<\/strong>, Satre had reason to take a victory lap when IGT was chosen by <strong>FanDuel<\/strong> to provide the bells and whistles for its <strong>Meadowlands Racetrack<\/strong> sports book. <strong>Paddy Power Betfair<\/strong> analytics will be flowed through an IGT platform. &#8220;FanDuel is <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10465\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IGT-logo-300x96.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"96\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IGT-logo-300x96.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IGT-logo-150x48.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IGT-logo-1024x328.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IGT-logo.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>essentially combining IGT\u2019s B2B sports betting platform and customizable interface with Paddy Power Betfair\u2019s pricing\/trading\/risk management capabilities to create the FanDuel Sportsbook product,&#8221; wrote <strong>Deutsche Bank<\/strong> analyst <strong>Carlo Santarelli<\/strong>. &#8220;The final product allows FanDuel to facilitate sports betting over the counter and will ultimately include self-service retail kiosks, as well as online\/mobile wagering, all using IGT\u2019s technology.&#8221; Meadowlands <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/4dc3da5568b3439f992cabbaf884d704\/New-Jersey-track-brings-sports-bets-to-New-York&#039;s-doorstep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">started taking action last weekend<\/a>, bringing the number of sports books in <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> to four, if memory serves.<\/p>\n<p>* How low can <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> go when the issue is the <strong>Mandalay Bay Massacre<\/strong> is the topic? It&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/mgm-resorts-sues-victims-of-las-vegas-mass-shooting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">suing victims<\/a> of the shooting, saying that the government-approved status of its security company holds it harmless from litigation. MGM <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21998\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay-150x95.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay.jpg 625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>contends that\u00a0<strong>Contemporary Services Corp<\/strong>. is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/crime\/homicides\/lawsuits-claim-mgm-has-no-liability-to-las-vegas-shooting-victims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">covered by a 2002 federal law<\/a> that gives protection to companies that employee services that \u201chelp prevent and respond to mass violence.\u201d Well, we&#8217;ve seen how well Contemporary Services performed on the violence-prevention and mass-violence fronts. If the argument stands up in court, the law in question will serve as a giant fuck-you not only to <strong>Route 91 Harvest<\/strong> victims but anyone harmed on a property employing a slack security force.<\/p>\n<p>Plaintiffs&#8217; attorney <strong>Robert Eglet<\/strong> brushed off the complaint as hinging on an &#8220;obscure&#8221; argument, since the <strong>FBI<\/strong> has not classified the massacre as terrorism, although we&#8217;ve noted before that key legal decisions often hinge upon arcane matters. (The <strong>Supreme Court<\/strong>&#8216;s scotching of the <strong>Bradley Act<\/strong> taught us all a lesson on &#8220;comandeering.&#8221;) As for MGM, spokeswoman <strong>Debra DeShong<\/strong> said,\u00a0\u201cThe Federal Court is an appropriate venue for these cases and provides those affected with the opportunity for a timely resolution. Years of drawn out litigation and hearings are not in the best interest of victims, the community and those still healing.\u201d You&#8217;d think the <em>victims<\/em> would know what is in their best interests, but not according to Big Brother MGM.<\/p>\n<p>A steamed Eglet told the <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em> that MGM&#8217;s filing was a \u201cblatant display of judge shopping\u00a0[which] quite frankly verges on unethical.\u00a0I\u2019ve never seen a more outrageous thing, where they sue the victims in an effort to find a judge they like. It\u2019s just really sad that they would stoop to this level.&#8221; With the increasingly pro-corporate tilt of the federal courts under the Trump administration Eglet is right to be concerned.<\/p>\n<p>* If <strong>Hard Rock International<\/strong> gets a <strong>Japan<\/strong> casino, expect it to have <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/guitar-shaped-hard-rock-topped-off-in-florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a familiar look<\/a>.
