The <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong> called Station&#8217;s bluff and the company has been talking out <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-22111\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Green-Valley-Ranch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"294\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Green-Valley-Ranch.jpg 294w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Green-Valley-Ranch-150x87.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 294px) 100vw, 294px\" \/>of the other side of its mouth ever since. Most recently, yesterday in fact, the <strong>National Labor Relations Board<\/strong> tossed Station&#8217;s challenge to the <strong>Green Valley Ranch<\/strong> election, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.culinaryunion226.org\/news\/press\/body\/BDO.28-RC-208266.Station-GVR-Order-conformed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">saying<\/a>, &#8220;we find that the Employer failed to prove that any employees knew or would have reasonably inferred that the Petitioner had made a list of employees who had not yet voted in the election. Absent such proof, the Petitioner\u2019s conduct could not have reasonably tended to interfere with the employees\u2019 free choice in the election.&#8221; No matter that 78% of employees voting cast their ballots in favor <!--more-->of the Culinary, where there are unions Station sees only sinister forces.<\/p>\n<p>Station is still trying to fight the outcome of the <strong>Palms<\/strong> election, which it lost by an even more lopsided margin, with 84% of ballots cast in favor of unionization. Rather than gracefully accept the inevitable, Station ownership continues to refight yesterday&#8217;s battles. This only adds to the credibility gap the company has suffered for years, ever since the scandal that drove Station out of <strong>Missouri<\/strong>. If Station executives don&#8217;t stand by their rhetoric vis-a-vis unionization, in what other respects are they not to be believed?<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0<strong>Louisiana<\/strong> casinos were generally prosperous last month, up 5%, except in <strong>Baton Rouge<\/strong>, where a smoking ban has driven business down 15.5%. <strong>Belle of Baton Rouge<\/strong> got hammered, plunging 26% <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10108\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Auberge-BR-casino-floor-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Auberge-BR-casino-floor-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Auberge-BR-casino-floor-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Auberge-BR-casino-floor.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>to $4 million, but nobody got off easy. <strong>Casino Rouge<\/strong> dropped 12% to $5 million and <strong>L&#8217;Auberge Baton Rouge<\/strong> tumbled 13% to a coincidental $13 million. By contrast, the smoke-free <strong>New Orleans<\/strong> casinos did well, with <strong>Harrah&#8217;s New Orleans<\/strong> up 6% to $24 million and <strong>Fair Grounds<\/strong> racino rising 9% to almost $4 million. Across the river, you can light up, <strong>Treasure Chest<\/strong> gained 6% and <strong>Boomtown New Orleans<\/strong> ascended 7.5%, both grossing $10 million,\u00a0while <strong>Amelia Belle<\/strong> gained 10% to close the month at $4 million.<\/p>\n<p>In the dominant <strong>Lake Charles<\/strong> market, <strong>L&#8217;Auberge du Lac<\/strong> ($30.5 million, +13.5%) and <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong> ($28 million, +17%) continued to duke it out for supremacy. <strong>Isle Grand Palais<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-16112\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Horseshoe-Bossier.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"192\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Horseshoe-Bossier.jpg 192w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Horseshoe-Bossier-110x150.jpg 110w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 192px) 100vw, 192px\" \/>continued its decline, down 13% to $8.5 million. <strong>Delta Downs<\/strong> brought home $17 million, a 14.5% jump. Elsewhere, <strong>Evangeline Downs<\/strong> was flat at $7 million. <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> was doubly fortunate in the <strong>Shreveport<\/strong>\/<strong>Bossier City<\/strong> area, grossing $18 million (+16%) at <strong>Horseshoe Bossier City<\/strong> and $4 million (+7%) at <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Louisiana Downs<\/strong>. <strong>Sam&#8217;s Town<\/strong> gained 2% to reach nearly $7 million, <strong>Margaritaville<\/strong> leapt 10% to $14 million and <strong>Boomtown Bossier<\/strong> was one of the revenue-negative casinos, slipping 2% to $5 million.<\/p>\n<p>* A &#8220;trailer station&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/downtown-casino-plan-gets-quick-ok-from-las-vegas-city-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">may pop up<\/a> at what&#8217;s left of the <strong>Vegas Club<\/strong>, to preserve the gaming entitlement while <strong>Derek Stevens<\/strong> keeps <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4605\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/LV-Club.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/LV-Club.jpg 288w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/LV-Club-150x140.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/>planning the 777-room resort that will replace. Plans for <strong>Downtown<\/strong>&#8216;s first ground-up casino resort in decades &#8220;breezed&#8221; through the <strong>Las Vegas City Council<\/strong>, according to the <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em>. Despite his flair for showmanship, Stevens has been curiously offhand about his project, letting it become public through a planning request filed with the city and eschewing the pulpit provided by the City Council to tout his project.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn&#8217;t mean the construction process won&#8217;t be alleviated with a bit of flash. Stevens promised the comeback of high-kicking &#8220;<strong>Sassy Sally<\/strong>.&#8221; We&#8217;ll be waiting with bated breath to see what else Stevens has planned.
