Their Republican <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8813\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Sheldon_Adelson-dye-job-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Sheldon_Adelson-dye-job-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Sheldon_Adelson-dye-job-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Sheldon_Adelson-dye-job.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>counterparts did not qualify for profiles in courage: &#8220;The GOP candidates declined to comment at all.&#8221; Frontrunner <strong>Ron DeSantis<\/strong> (R) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/florida-casino-amendment-considered-by-dem-gubernatorial-candidates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">is a stalking horse<\/a> for <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong>, proving that old Shel hasn&#8217;t given up on gambling prospects in the Sunshine State. Rep. <strong>Gwen Graham<\/strong> (D) is opposed to any expansion of gambling, as is former <strong>Miami Beach<\/strong> mayor <strong>Philip Levine<\/strong> (D). <strong>Tallahassee<\/strong> Mayor <strong>Andrew Gillum<\/strong> (D) begs to differ, saying, <!--more-->&#8220;I am always in favor of the voters having a say on momentous issues.&#8221; Real estate developer <strong>Jeff Greene<\/strong> (D) offers qualified support, saying gaming issues should be decided by the affected locations.<\/p>\n<p>In this issue, they&#8217;re aligned with Florida voters, only 8% of whom favor more casinos. Neither does <strong>Disney<\/strong> nor the <strong>Seminole Tribe<\/strong>, both of whom &#8212; politics making strange bedfellows &#8212; are jointly bankrolling initiative <strong>Voters in Charge<\/strong>. $26 million has gone into the pro-Question 3 kitty, while an opposition group has tried to beat it back with a puny $1 million bankroll. A move to authorize more casinos died in the Lege last spring, although there&#8217;s some sentiment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mystateline.com\/news\/officials-to-make-case-for-rockford-casino-at-chicago-gaming-summit\/1386316550\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">to try and revive it<\/a> during the lame-duck session this fall.\u00a0&#8220;We continue, year after year, to be promised that this could be the year to have a casino,&#8221; wailed Rockford Mayor <strong>Tom McNamara<\/strong>.\u00a0&#8220;My hope is that the legislature will have the courage to move this legislation forward once again, expand gaming and bring in some much needed revenue to the City of Rockford.\u00a0We&#8217;re seeing <strong>Ho-Chunk Casino<\/strong> wanting to build a $450 million hotel complex just 15-20 minutes from us.&#8221; Rockford, of course, is toast if Ho-Chunk beats it to the starting line. The issue will be revisited in October, which means that the sands of time continue to slip through McNamara&#8217;s fingers.<\/p>\n<p>* The <strong>NBA<\/strong> has designated <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> as its official gaming partner and MGM owns a <strong>WNBA<\/strong> team.
