That&#8217;s how much sports betting will be worth to the <strong>NHL<\/strong>, according to the <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Sara Slane<\/strong>. The new revenue will be achieved &#8220;as a result of <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-22410\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/slane-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/slane.jpg 232w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/slane-116x150.jpg 116w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/>spending from betting operators on advertising, data and sponsorship and revenue generated as a result of increased consumption of the league\u2019s media and products.&#8221; The AGA cites the results of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americangaming.org\/sites\/default\/files\/NHL%20Nielsen%20two-pager.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">Nielsen study<\/a> to ground its position. That big number includes a projected $24 million in advertising and $35 million in sponsorship fees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Much like the NHL\u2019s recent successful expansion into <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>, legal sports betting will continue to expand across the country, bringing with it a <!--more-->$216 million opportunity for the league,&#8221; Slane concludes. Nielsen cast a wide net &#8212; 1,000 respondents &#8212; in conducting its study, so I think we needn&#8217;t take its findings with a grain of sand.<\/p>\n<p>In other sports-betting news, <strong>SugarHouse Casino<\/strong> has become the latest applicant in <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong>, ponying up $10 million for the privilege of paying 36% tax on gross revenues. <strong>Rush Street Gaming<\/strong> waited too for long for its application to be considered <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1071\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/sugar-house-800-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/sugar-house-800-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/sugar-house-800.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>this month but we see no reason why it should not ultimately be successful. <strong>Greenwood Racing<\/strong>, meanwhile, wants casino sports betting extended to its OTB,\u00a0<strong>South Philadelphia Turf Club<\/strong>. It remains to be seen whether that requires a discrete license. While sports betting is being incepted in staggered fashion, the <strong>Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board<\/strong> is prepared a &#8220;coordinated launch&#8221; of Internet gambling, so those casinos with licenses will have to patient a while longer.<\/p>\n<p>* A massive setback to the <strong>Mashantucket Pequots<\/strong> and <strong>Mohegans<\/strong> was dealt by a federal court this week. It ruled that a satellite casino <a href=\"https:\/\/ctmirror.org\/2018\/09\/30\/d-c-judge-deals-setback-east-windsor-casino\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cannot be built<\/a> in <strong>East Windsor<\/strong> without amendment of the tribes&#8217; compact with <strong>Connecticut<\/strong>. (That sound you hear is <strong>MGM Springfield<\/strong> execs rubbing their hands with glee.) It took Judge <strong>Rudolph Contreras<\/strong> 58 pages to reach the conclusion that <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-21897\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/East-Windsor-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/East-Windsor-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/East-Windsor-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/East-Windsor.jpg 650w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>the Pequots &#8220;have no legal standing to compel <strong>Department of the Interior<\/strong> Secretary <strong>Ryan Zinke<\/strong> to accept revisions to the state\u2019s existing gambling agreement with the tribe.&#8221; According to the <em>Connecticut Mirror<\/em>, &#8220;Without Zinke\u2019s approval&#8221; &#8212; a very big &#8216;if&#8217; &#8212; &#8220;the East Windsor project is blocked indefinitely.&#8221; Zinke has approved some tribal-gaming projects but recently became the first Secretary of the Interior to take land <em>out<\/em> of trust in modern times. So he&#8217;s not necessarily a friend to Indian Country.<\/p>\n<p>The Pequots were &#8220;reviewing our options,&#8221; according to spokesman. Meanwhile, <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong>, which has the right to intervene in any appeal of Contreras&#8217; decision, <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21164\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/MGM_Springfield_Casino_455x339-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/MGM_Springfield_Casino_455x339-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/MGM_Springfield_Casino_455x339-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/MGM_Springfield_Casino_455x339.jpg 455w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>although not a defendant in the suit, could not contain its gloating: \u201cIt has become increasingly apparent that the Tribes\u2019 promises of legal victory, no matter how often they are repeated, prove hollow.\u201d We&#8217;d say things look pretty bleak for MMTC these days. If that casino ever gets built, MGM Springfield will be deeply entrenched with customers and MMTC will have to build something much more impressive than authorized in order to win back players.<\/p>\n<p>* The 1-3 <strong>Oakland Raiders<\/strong> are still two seasons away from coming to Las Vegas but that doesn&#8217;t mean <strong>Mandalay Bay<\/strong> is waiting for 2020 to get ready. It&#8217;s launched a revamp of its sports book and, <a href=\"https:\/\/vegasinc.lasvegassun.com\/business\/gaming\/2018\/sep\/29\/raiders-on-way-mandalay-bay-spruces-sports-book\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">from the sound of it<\/a>, the place should be very impressive.<\/p>\n<p>* In <strong>Indiana<\/strong>, <strong>Rising Sun<\/strong> casino can use every bit of help it can get. So <strong>Dan Lee<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casinobeats.com\/2018\/09\/28\/full-house-to-commence-ferry-boat-service-from-rising-star-casino\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">must have been a happy camper<\/a> when his appeal for ferry service between the casino and <strong>Rabbit Hash<\/strong>, <strong>Kentucky<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5802\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/DanLee-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/DanLee-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/DanLee-100x150.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/DanLee.jpg 204w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>(I&#8217;m not making that up) was approved. Free ferry service starts this weekend. After a few shakedown cruises or so, boarding fees &#8212; $5 for one-way travel, $8 for a round trip &#8212; will kick in. The news just happens to coincide with a shakeup within <strong>Full House Resorts<\/strong>, which replaced the general managers at two of its casinos. <strong>Benjamin Douglass<\/strong> is the new boss at Rising Sun while <strong>Terry Smith<\/strong> takes charge of <strong>Stockman&#8217;s Casino<\/strong> in <strong>Fallon<\/strong>, <strong>Nevada<\/strong>. Given all the market challenges facing Rising Sun, the inception of ferry service might be the shot in the arm it needs, provided that Bluegrass State customers don&#8217;t balk at the fee.<\/p>\n<p>* If you&#8217;re a lottery, how do you one-up the casinos? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onlinepokerreport.com\/32368\/oregon-online-lottery-sports-betting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">Offer sports betting<\/a>. That&#8217;s what the <strong>Oregon Lottery<\/strong> plans to do and it&#8217;s not waiting for the Legislature&#8217;s say-so. We&#8217;ll have to see if the state&#8217;s tribal casinos take this lying down.<\/p>\n<p>* They&#8217;re mad for gambling in <strong>Cyprus<\/strong>. <strong>Melco Resorts &amp; Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s temporary casino <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/melco-interim-cyprus-casino-drew-175000-in-three-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">saw 175,000 patrons<\/a> in its first quarter of operation. Called <strong>C2<\/strong>, it is the precursor of a <strong>City of Dreams<\/strong>-branded megaresort, set to open in 2021. When finished, it will be <strong>Europe<\/strong>&#8216;s largest resort casino. Are you paying attention, <strong>Japan<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0This isn&#8217;t good: <strong>Macao<\/strong> hotel reservations for Golden Week are &#8220;weaker than initially expected.&#8221; That&#8217;s the diagnosis of <strong>Sanford <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7041\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Macao-casino.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Macao-casino.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Macao-casino-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>C. Bernstein<\/strong> analysts.\u00a0\u201cWhile hotel bookings looked strong going in, recent checks of online travel agencies, group travel and property websites imply remaining room availability &#8230;\u00a0Last year, there was a similar development with initially strong bookings that did not result in outsized gross gaming revenue.\u201d Nonetheless, the brokerage is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/macau-golden-week-hotel-biz-weaker-than-hoped-brokerage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">predicting a 4% to 6% improvement<\/a> on gambling revenue from last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>$216 million.
