However, now that Caesars is in <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5782\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/fertitta_web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" \/>play, McKnight doesn&#8217;t think this is the end of the story, mentioning activist shareholders, presumably ones who don&#8217;t feel like scoffing at $13\/share offers while CZR is trading at $9.77.\u00a0<em>Global Gaming Business<\/em> adds that &#8220;Fertitta is a cousin to <strong>Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta<\/strong>, who own and operate <strong>Red Rock Resorts<\/strong> (formerly <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong>), based in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>. The relationship between the cousins has reportedly been tense for years.&#8221; That&#8217;s putting it nicely.<\/p>\n<p>* In other news, the <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong> has made its endorsements, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.culinaryunion226.org\/blog\/text\/Election2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">too many to list<\/a>. It&#8217;s definitely got an uphill battle in some races. Rep. <strong>Jacky Rosen<\/strong> (D) fumbled away <!--more-->a small lead over Sen. <strong>Dean Heller<\/strong> (R) and was last seen running seven points behind, although <strong>NBC<\/strong> has them in &#8220;dead heat&#8221; territory again. At least Rosen has the <strong>Harry Reid<\/strong> machine behind her, in addition to the Culinary. In another key race, <strong>Clark County<\/strong> Commissioner <strong>Steve Sisolak<\/strong> (D) has to be considered an underdog to Attorney General\u00a0<strong>Adam Laxalt<\/strong> (R), which may explain why buttoned-down Sisolak is currently courting the stoner vote.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> horse tracks are approaching the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong> for the go-ahead to hold live meets. <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> is gung-ho about the whole thing, proposing 108 days of racing at <strong>Plainridge Park<\/strong>. Those slot machines are spinning so much money that it should translate into fat purses for the horsemen. As for <strong>Suffolk Downs<\/strong>, let&#8217;s not get too excited. It wants &#8220;at least four days of live racing,&#8221; according to the <em>Boston Globe<\/em>, but isn&#8217;t exactly jumping in with both hooves.<\/p>\n<p>* Football fans in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> have got to be hope that this season is what&#8217;s euphemistically called a &#8220;rebuilding year&#8221; in sports, which means that your team &#8212; the <strong>Oakland Raiders<\/strong> &#8212; gets its brains continually beat in, with the hope of better, stronger things to come next <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-19529\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Raiders.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"207\" height=\"138\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Raiders.png 275w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Raiders-150x100.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/>season and (when the Raiders move to Vegas), the year after that. Celebrity coach <strong>Jon Gruden<\/strong> claims otherwise,\u00a0\u201cI hear the hatred out there, some of the rumors that we are tanking it to get a first-round pick or a higher pick.\u00a0We are not getting up at four\u00a0in the morning to tank it. With $100 million and a ten-year deal invested in Gruden, you have to think owner <strong>Mark Davis<\/strong> is playing the long game. Good for Vegas, maybe, not so hot for <strong>Oakland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>* After deciding to pick the best celebrity chef in each state, <strong>USDirect<\/strong> found its flummoxed by <strong>Nevada<\/strong>. Thanks to the proliferation of trophy chefs on the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong>, USDirect went with five. Surprisingly, <strong>Giada de Laurentiis<\/strong> didn&#8217;t make the list, although newcomer <strong>Robert Irvine<\/strong> did. Other selections ran from the sublime (Irvine, <strong>Bobby Flay<\/strong>) to the ridiculous (<strong>Guy Fieri<\/strong>, <strong>Wolfgang Puck<\/strong>) to those somewhere in between (<strong>Gordon Ramsay<\/strong>). At least GdL has <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> all to herself &#8212; are you listening, Caesars?<\/p>\n<p>* Say a fond farewell to <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong>. Penn National&#8217;s and <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s acquisitions of Pinnacle assets closed last week. Now Penn moves on to its purchase of <strong>Margaritaville<\/strong> in <strong>Shreveport<\/strong> and Boyd prepares to deploy the potent <strong>Ameristar<\/strong>\u00a0name as part of its branding arsenal.
