What should be of more concern would be MGM&#8217;s ability to finance such a deal, given that its high long-term <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14803\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1.png 240w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>debt load has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/investing\/2016\/10\/27\/mgm-resorts-heavy-debt-load-how-bad-is-it.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">long been a burden<\/a> upon the company. At present it stands just short of $14.7 billion (<strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> is carrying $11.9 billion and <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> $8.3 billion). Does CEO <strong>Jim Murren<\/strong> really want to double down? It was just such a move that sent Caesars spiraling into bankruptcy. McKnight doesn&#8217;t elaborate on the MGM news other than to say that other companies (unspecified) are kicking the Roman Empire&#8217;s tires as well. Speaking of Sands, it has the money but someplace like <strong>Bally&#8217;s<\/strong> doesn&#8217;t fit with the company&#8217;s carefully manicured image. Ditto Wynn, which goes out of its way to maintain an upscale position. The prime suspect would be <!--more--><strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong>, which has wooed Caesars before and has a low debt load. Penn never saw a casino it didn&#8217;t want to buy &#8212; and Caesars, <a href=\"https:\/\/lasvegassun.com\/news\/2018\/nov\/01\/frissora-leaving-as-president-ceo-of-caesars-enter\/?_ga=2.130174216.688940511.1541165185-1758830227.1541165185\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">being between CEOs<\/a>, is potentially vulnerable, so let&#8217;s see if that scenario emerges.<\/p>\n<p>Although MGM is the half-owner of <strong>T-Mobile Arena<\/strong>, the latter&#8217;s primary tenant, the NHL&#8217;s <strong>Golden Knights<\/strong>, has chosen <strong>San Manuel Casino<\/strong> in <strong>California<\/strong> as its sponsor. It&#8217;s kind of fitting that the NHL&#8217;s Cinderella team should partner with an underdog <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-22176\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/MGM-Resorts-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/MGM-Resorts-1.jpg 277w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/MGM-Resorts-1-150x99.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 277px) 100vw, 277px\" \/>casino. Caesars Entertainment is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/stadium\/las-vegas-stadium-to-have-caesars-branded-entrance-1516255\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">putting its stamp<\/a> on <strong>Raiders Stadium<\/strong>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/sports-and-gaming-suddenly-its-love\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">entering into a partnership<\/a> with the <strong>Baltimore Ravens<\/strong>, who play cheek-by-jowl with struggling <strong>Horseshoe Baltimore<\/strong>. It&#8217;s also struck a deal with the <strong>Philadelphia 76ers<\/strong> and will operating sports-betting lounges in <strong>Prudential Center<\/strong>, not to operate as sports books <em>per se<\/em> but to &#8220;promote&#8221; mobile wagering. (Caesars is even going into the restaurant business at the arena.) MGM is getting into the act by act by by becoming the &#8220;official gaming partner&#8221; of the hapless <strong>New York Jets<\/strong>. That&#8217;s likelier to fly with the <strong>NFL<\/strong> than the Jets&#8217; sponsorship by <strong>888.com<\/strong>, The league frowns on offshore gaming sponsorships, although the Jets are trying to split hairs by arguing that the deal doesn&#8217;t direct punters to <strong>888sports.com<\/strong>. A winning contention? You be the judge.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3C2HdPUMwcM\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Hooters Casino<\/strong> is for sale (again). An <em>S&amp;G<\/em> source says that real estate firm <strong>Cushman &amp; Wakefield<\/strong> has listed the property. It&#8217;s historically been difficult to find takers for the ramshackle hotel-casino, which is not wearing its years lightly. Considering its proximity to the <strong>Tropicana Las Vegas<\/strong> and <strong>MGM Grand<\/strong> the underlying real estate may be of more value than the buildings sitting on it. Which is a nice way of saying any buyer should break out the wrecking ball, The demise of Hooters might sadden <strong>Jon Gruden<\/strong> but would otherwise not cause any great sorrow. Its theme seemed like a natural for <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> but we quickly learned that what passes for risqu\u00e9 in Middle America is awfully tame for Sin City. Time for a new concept &#8212; and a new building.<\/p>\n<p>* Has it really been five years since <strong>Mark Frissora<\/strong> took charge at Caesars? Time flies. Anyway, former <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong> CEO <strong>Anthony Sanfilippo<\/strong>, who became jobless last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/frissora-to-exit-caesars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">is being tipped as Frissora&#8217;s successor<\/a>. Should that be the case, <em>S&amp;G<\/em> would give the hire a standing ovation.
