We have exciting plans for <strong>Casino Miami<\/strong> that we will be <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5463\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/ruffin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"130\" \/>revealing in the near future.&#8221; With those words <strong>Phil Ruffin<\/strong> took possession of the $155 million casino, <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/ruffin-purchases-casino-miami\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unloaded to him<\/a> in reaction to the November election results that went well for the <strong>Seminole Tribe<\/strong> and badly for everyone else in the casino biz. While Ruffin&#8217;s new place holds 1,012 slot machines, Phil can upsize that to 2,000 one-armed bandits. The casino, which is on pace to gross $72 million this year, also contains a jai alai fronton. Other than adding a hotel Ruffin plans no radical changes to the property.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ruffin spokeswoman <strong>Michelle Knoll<\/strong>, Ruffin\u00a0&#8220;felt <!--more-->that it met his financial parameters for acquisition. This purchase became even more valuable with the <strong>Florida<\/strong> law that will seriously impair the issuance of future gaming licenses.\u201d If that&#8217;s the case this may not be the last casino flip we see in the Sunshine State.<\/p>\n<p>* First the bad news: A bill has been introduced in the <strong>U.S. Senate<\/strong> that would require states to grovel before the Attorney General before they could legalize sports betting. The good news: The sponsor of this misshapen afterbirth is Sen. <strong>Orrin Hatch<\/strong> (R), who&#8217;s a lame duck and will probably see the bill expire along with his <strong>Capitol Hill<\/strong> career. Nothing personal, senator, but good riddance.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0Evidently <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> is less than convinced it will keep <strong>Encore Boston Harbor<\/strong>. It is sending none other than Chairman <strong>Phil Satre<\/strong> to <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9148\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Satre0T.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Satre0T.jpg 194w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Satre0T-117x150.jpg 117w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/><strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> to ask for clemency from the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong>. <em>Global Gaming Business<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/new-wynn-chairman-will-plead-their-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">predicts<\/a> that Satre&#8217;s salient argument will be that all the bad actors at Wynn Resorts have been expunged from the company.\u00a0\u201cWhat I\u2019m saying is that we can separate <strong>Steve<\/strong>\u00a0[<strong>Wynn<\/strong>] from the company and still accomplish everything we promised here,\u201d Satre told the magazine.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in the Who Asked You? Department, <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong> butted into the regulatory process, announcing\u00a0it\u00a0&#8220;is prepared to participate in a process that would assign that license to another operator \u2014 and enter into negotiations with the appropriate <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-15390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett-300x164.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett-300x164.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett-150x82.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett.jpeg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>parties to acquire the facility under construction in <strong>Everett<\/strong>.\u201d This drew a heated response from Mayor <strong>Carlo DeMaria<\/strong>:\u00a0\u201cMohegan Sun is not welcome to operate a casino in the City of Everett. We made a deal with Wynn Resorts to operate a 5-star international destination resort and I will never accept anything less \u2014 certainly not a gaming parlor that would be used to protect their interests in <strong>Connecticut<\/strong> at the expense of our community and residents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Closer to home, Wynn Resorts is being sued in <strong>Clark County<\/strong> for allowing Steve Wynn to breach his fiduciary duties by violating company rules against sexual harassment and misconduct. In <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-22917\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Steve-Wynn2-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Steve-Wynn2-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Steve-Wynn2-150x95.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Steve-Wynn2.jpg 625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>addition to Wynn himself, the suit names CEO <strong>Matt Maddox<\/strong>, former counsel <strong>Kim Sinatra<\/strong> and who&#8217;s-who of Wynn board members that includes ex-Gov. <strong>Bob Miller<\/strong>. Plaintiff\u00a0<strong>Robert Bruce Bannister<\/strong> is seeking $15,000 in punitive damages from El Steve plus court costs. That seems like a lot of trouble to go to for such a small sum. Two Bay State pension funds are also suing Wynn Resorts. It&#8217;s quite a baptism of fire for Satre.<\/p>\n<p>At least WYNN shares <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/u-s-china-ceasefire-helps-casinos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">are performing better<\/a> now that the <strong>U.S.<\/strong> and <strong>China<\/strong> have called a temporary truce in their trade war. <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> and <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> shares were also buoyed by the news. As Stifel analyst\u00a0<strong>Steven Wieczynski<\/strong> put it, <strong>Macao<\/strong>\u00a0continues to hold up better than the \u2018fear\u2019 that is associated with it. In <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12605\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wynn-Macau-4-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wynn-Macau-4-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wynn-Macau-4-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Wynn-Macau-4.jpg 318w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>a market driven by momentum, Macau\u2019s November gross gaming results result [+8.5%] should be viewed positively given the negativity around Macau in general right now.\u201d <strong>Union Gaming Group<\/strong> analyst <strong>Grant Govertsen<\/strong> added that junketeers have yet to\u00a0\u201chit the panic button. Most are still seeing growth and are cautiously optimistic about their prospects.\u201d Perhaps that cautious optimism will translate to <strong>Wall Street<\/strong>, which remains eagerly skeptical about Macao.<\/p>\n<p>* Having failed to give the state budget a shot in the arm through casino expansion, Gov. <strong>Andrew Cuomo<\/strong> (D) will now <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/sports-betting-in-new-york-a-done-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">try to do it with sports betting<\/a>, revenue from which he has baked into his next set of budgetary numbers. That prompted normally circumspect<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-19466\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/pretlow-300x166.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/pretlow-300x166.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/pretlow-150x83.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/pretlow.jpg 711w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Assemblyman <strong>Gary Pretlow<\/strong> (D), the point man on gambling in <strong>New York State<\/strong>, to call sports betting &#8220;a done deal &#8230; <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> is doing even better than expected with sports betting because they\u2019re getting all that New York action, which is what I said would happen and it\u2019s happening. I read in New Jersey they brought in $24 million from sports betting in September, which is huge,\u201d Pretlow told <em>GGB<\/em>. To gain momentum, Pretlow\u00a0will throw online poker to the sharks. He explained, &#8220;I would choose this over online poker just because the revenue stream is so much better.\u201d No argument there. But, according to the Empire State\u00a0constitution, casinos are juiced into sports-betting exclusivity, which could prove problematic.
