A Beltway lobbyist <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/report-bill-miller-to-head-aga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">of two decades&#8217; standing<\/a>, <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-23114\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/miller.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/miller.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/miller-150x114.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>Miller should be able to hit the ground running. Thirteen years of lobbying on behalf of the <strong>U.S. Chamber of Commerce<\/strong> won&#8217;t hurt either. Miller is said to run in conservative Republican circles, so it will be interesting to see how this affects AGA policy, particularly in the wake of the centrist Freeman. Perhaps Miller&#8217;s relationship with <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> will be less strained than was Freeman&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Route 91 Harvest<\/strong> music festival is mulling a return to Las Vegas, &#8220;though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/nation\/la-na-route91-concert-returns-20181214-story.html?utm_source=Today%27s+Headlines&amp;utm_campaign=391a54e3b3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2016_12_12_COPY_01&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_b04355194f-391a54e3b3-74529537\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">probably far from the site<\/a> of the 2017 shooting, according to a key promoter of the event.&#8221; Ironically, <!--more-->the announcement was made <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21998\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay-150x95.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay.jpg 625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>during a panel at &#8212; wait for it &#8212; <strong>Mandalay Bay<\/strong>. According to the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>, &#8220;plans would include finding a way to honor the 58 people killed in the [2017] attack.&#8221; (Which reminds me that we&#8217;re not one iota closer to understanding shooter <strong>Stephen Pollock<\/strong>&#8216;s motive.) At the risk of being insensitive, <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> has a perfectly good festival space sitting unused at the north end of the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong>, so Route 91 could possibly relocate there and put maximal distance between itself and MBay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Las Vegas Metro<\/strong> has issued a 187-page report on the Mandalay Bay Massacre. According to the <em>LAT<\/em>, it &#8220;outlined a portrait [of] Paddock as a man with narcissistic qualities, a high-stakes gambler and a loner who had grown distant from his girlfriend.&#8221; We still await an <strong>FBI<\/strong> behavioral report.<\/p>\n<p>* And then there were seven. The <strong>Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board<\/strong> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playusa.com\/pennsylvania-sports-betting-presque-isle-license\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">received its seventh sports-betting-license application<\/a>, this one from <strong>Presque Isle Downs<\/strong>. At present, three casinos (<strong>Hollywood Casino<\/strong>, <strong>Rivers Casino<\/strong> and <strong>SugarHouse<\/strong>) offering sports wagers, with <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Philadelphia<\/strong>, <strong>Parx Casino<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Valley Forge Casino Resort<\/strong> waiting in the queue (and <strong>Sands Bethlehem<\/strong> unaccountably <em>hors de combat<\/em>). Parx is aiming for an end-of-year start, while Harrah&#8217;s has yet to announce a start date.<\/p>\n<p>* &#8220;I love gaming and I&#8217;ll be back,&#8221; said <strong>Gavin Isaacs<\/strong> in a Schwarzenegger-like pronouncement upon <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/isaacs-leaving-scientific-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">leaving the vice chairmanship<\/a> of <strong>Scientific Games<\/strong>. He remains tethered to <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6031\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/GavinIsaacs.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/GavinIsaacs.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/GavinIsaacs-119x150.jpg 119w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Scientific by a consulting agreement, so his return may be delayed. Frankly, it is a loss to the gaming industry to have so creative an executive sidelined. The fever of consolidation leaves fewer places for an Isaacs and that&#8217;s gaming&#8217;s loss. In other Scientific news, the company is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/sci-games-deal-halves-settlement-to-rival-shuffler-firm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">admitting no liability<\/a> in litigation brought by <strong>Shuffle Tech<\/strong> despite having paid through the nose to make the jury verdict go away.<\/p>\n<p>* Congratulations to <strong>Plaza Hotel<\/strong> CEO <strong>Jonathan Jossel<\/strong> on being named <em>Global Gaming Business<\/em>&#8216; <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/global-gaming-business-names-the-25-people-to-watch-for-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">25 People to Watch<\/a>. Kudos on a job well done &#8212; and keep bringing that dog of yours to work.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>San Diego Sports Arena<\/strong> is now <strong>Pechanga Sports Arena<\/strong>, following a name-rights sale to the casino-owning <strong>Pechanga Band of Luise\u00f1o Indians<\/strong>. Unfortunately, excepting the outdoor <strong>San Diego Padres<\/strong>, the city doesn&#8217;t have a sports franchise worth mentioning these days. Speaking of sports, if <strong>CBS-TV<\/strong> analyst <strong>Tony Romo<\/strong> hadn&#8217;t earned his spurs yet he surely did during the <strong>Pittsburgh Steelers<\/strong> near-death experience at the hands of the <strong>New England Patriots<\/strong>.
