The <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/01\/02\/magazine\/harry-reid-senate-cancer-trump.html?action=click&amp;module=News&amp;pgtype=Homepage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">paid Reid a visit<\/a> at his home in <strong>Henderson<\/strong> and could not help asking Reid about <strong>James Comey<\/strong>&#8216;s equation of <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> to the head of a Mafia family. \u201cOrganized crime is a business,\u201d Reid replied, \u201cand they are really good with what they do. But they are better off when things are predictable. In my opinion, they do not do well with chaos. And that\u2019s what we have going with Trump. Trump is an interesting person,&#8221; said Reid, continuing the analogy. &#8220;He is not immoral but is amoral. Amoral is when you shoot someone in the head, it doesn\u2019t make a difference. No conscience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* Despite its backstabbing move to support federal regulation of sports betting, <!--more-->the <strong>NFL<\/strong> (no stranger to talking out of both sides of its mouth) named <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> its &#8220;official casino sponsor.&#8221; Apparently missing the irony, the <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Sara Slane<\/strong> said, \u201cThe NFL\u2019s official partnership with Caesars Entertainment is a perfect example of the value of contractual relationships between leagues and the casino gaming industry.\u201d We&#8217;ll see about that.<\/p>\n<p>* Although outgoing <strong>Michigan<\/strong> Gov. <strong>Rick Snyder<\/strong> was expected to sign online-gambling legislation, he elected to veto the bill, meaning that it will have to be taken up again <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-20783\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Brandt-Iden-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Brandt-Iden-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Brandt-Iden-107x150.jpg 107w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Brandt-Iden.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Brandt-Iden-732x1024.jpg 732w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/>under Gov.-elect <strong>Gretchen Widmer<\/strong> (D). Snyder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onlinepokerreport.com\/34079\/snyder-michigan-online-gambling-veto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">evidently had it in<\/a> for Rep. <strong>Brandt Iden<\/strong> (<em>right<\/em>), vetoing every gaming-related bill bearing Iden&#8217;s name. Snyder&#8217;s justification was that the state lottery and terrestrial casinos would suffer from Net betting. In fact, Snyder engaged in orgy of vetoing, nixing 40 bills that came out of the Lege. Widmer supports sports betting but her stance on Internet gambling is unknown. Meanwhile, as Iden ascends to the chairmanship of the <strong>Ways &amp; Means Committee<\/strong>, he will have a bully pulpit from which to revisit <strong>Internet<\/strong> gambling.<\/p>\n<p>* The <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em>&#8216;s <strong>Richard Velotta<\/strong> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/business-columns\/inside-gaming\/some-gaming-and-tourism-industry-predictions-for-2019-1561427\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">making a few predictions<\/a> about what 2019 holds for the gaming industry. Among them, sexual-misconduct guidelines (finally!) from the <strong>Nevada Gaming Control Board<\/strong>, nonstop air service to <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> from Japan and &#8212; brace yourself, <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> &#8212; a fine from the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong> of at least $10 million for hiding critical information. Considering that Wynn was faced with the potential confiscation of <strong>Encore Boston Harbor<\/strong>, it should consider that it is getting off cheaply.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nevada&#8216;s most famous gaming regulator is dying.
