That&#8217;s the legal handle that <strong>PlayUSA.com<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playusa.com\/super-bowl-betting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">is predicting<\/a> will be wagered on <strong>Super Bowl LIII<\/strong>. <strong>Nevada<\/strong> will have the plurality of bets, some $160 million, with <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> seeing $100 million in action, including online wagers. The nascent <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong> sports-betting market will generate $30 million, followed by\u00a0<strong>Mississippi<\/strong> ($17.5 million), <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-15124\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><strong>West Virginia<\/strong> ($10 million), <strong>Delaware<\/strong> ($5 million), <strong>Rhode Island<\/strong> ($1 million), and <strong>New Mexico<\/strong> ($500,000, all from one casino). The Silver State, which set a record last year will surpass its own $158.5 million high-water mark and should hold $1.2 million of the money bet (which shows you why high sports-betting taxes make no sense). Of the Garden State, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playnj.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\"><strong>PlayNJ.com<\/strong><\/a> analyst <strong>Dustin Gouker<\/strong> predicted, &#8220;The excitement of being able to legally place a bet for the first time in New Jersey, an intriguing matchup with two high-powered offenses and plenty of star power, and the proliferation of proposition bets, should all combine to make for an impressive total.&#8221; And while we&#8217;re on the subject, <strong>PR Newswire<\/strong>, just call it the Super Bowl, not the pusillanimous &#8220;NFL&#8217;s Big Game.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Point-spread bettors be warned: The <strong>Los Angeles Rams<\/strong> have a dreadful record of covering the spread this season. Perhaps that is why the overwhelming percentage of action is on the <strong>New England Patriots<\/strong>. Meanwhile, reinforcing its message of why <!--more-->sports betting should be legal, the <strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong> released its own estimate of Super Bowl handle: $6 million, including black-market action. Using its own survey, the AGA predicted that 22.7 million Americans would bet and 52% of their <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-23114\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/miller.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/miller.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/miller-150x114.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>action would be on the Rams. Almost 2 million would bet illegally with an untold number more using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.igamingbusiness.com\/news\/bet-service-group-has-malta-licence-suspended\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">offshore bookie sites<\/a> to place wagers. In his first public statement as AGA prexy, <strong>Bill Miller<\/strong> said, \u201cThese results, however, also point to the continued viability of the dangerous, illegal sports betting market in <strong>America<\/strong>. It is more important than ever for jurisdictions to enact sound policies that provide a safe, legal alternative with protections for the nearly 23 million Americans who will place a bet on the big game.\u201d (It&#8217;s the Super Bowl, Bill. Ask the ghost of <strong>Lamar Hunt<\/strong> about it.)<\/p>\n<p>The AGA also referred readers to an earlier, <strong>Nielsen Sports<\/strong> survey that predicted the NFL could earn a season-long $2.3 billion from sports betting, led by\u00a0&#8220;$1.75 billion in new revenue from increased consumption of the league\u2019s products.&#8221; Spending by betting operators and data providers would generate another $573 million, while the likes of <strong>DraftKing<\/strong>s would spend $451 million on advertising, and sponsorships would engender an extra $92 million.\u00a0\u201cLegal, regulated sports betting will create huge new revenue opportunities for sports leagues \u2013 and the NFL could be the biggest winner of all,\u201d said AGA Senior Vice President <strong>Sara Slane<\/strong> at the time.<\/p>\n<p>* If you were along the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong> at the right moment last week, you might have seen pieces of the <strong>Hard Rock Hotel<\/strong> marquee being driven past.
