The bad news is that it has set a record for <strong>Nevada Gaming Commission<\/strong> fines, hammered\u00a0with a $20 million smackdown, far ahead of the previous record-holder <strong>CG\u00a0Technology<\/strong> ($5.5 million). The irony, which did not go unremarked at <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8510\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Wynns-300x177.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Wynns-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Wynns-150x88.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Wynns.jpg 442w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>the hearing, is that all of the truly culpable parties are getting off scot-free, having left or been asked to leave Wynn Resorts. Prime malefactor and <a href=\"https:\/\/boston.cbslocal.com\/2019\/02\/26\/regulators-fine-steve-wynn-resorts-20m-sex-allegations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accused rapist<\/a>\u00a0<strong>Steve &#8220;I&#8217;ve never had a grandmother&#8221; Wynn<\/strong> has had his gaming license frozen but otherwise remains unreproached for having treated his casinos like personal harems. In one case, the company had to settle with a cocktail waitress <em>and her parents<\/em> for nearly a million dollars (the involvement of the parents really makes you wonder what went down). Commissioner <strong>Philip Pro<\/strong> called the scandal &#8220;a failure of a corporate culture to effectively govern itself as it should.\u201d The NGC should have listened to members <strong>John Moran<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Deborah Fuetsch<\/strong>, who wanted a heavier fine. And it should go after the individual miscreants. At the hearing Moran asked,\u00a0\u201cIsn\u2019t it strange that the people &#8230; that are the subject of this aren\u2019t even in the room today?\u201d Good question, sir. We are waiting in hope of an answer. Where are the charges against Steve Wynn, <strong>Kim Sinatra<\/strong>, <strong>Arte Nathan<\/strong> and all the other people who did too much or far too little, as the case may be?<\/p>\n<p>If the NGC settlement causes anything other than <em>agita<\/em> for CEO <strong>Matt Maddox<\/strong> as he writes out an eight-figure check, it raises <!--more-->the bar for <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>, where the company is accused by regulators of hushing up a <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-13300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/healey_maura.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/healey_maura.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/healey_maura-120x150.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>paternity settlement and by <strong>Suffolk Downs<\/strong> of engaging in bribery. <strong>Encore Boston Harbor<\/strong>&#8216;s license was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/bostonomix\/2019\/02\/25\/wynn-everett-casino-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hanging<\/a> by a thread and maybe the time has come to cut it.<br \/>\nHowever, several publications think Wynn Resorts <a href=\"https:\/\/commonwealthmagazine.org\/gambling\/why-a-20m-fine-looks-like-a-wynn-win-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">will beat the rap<\/a> and the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/opinion\/editorials\/2019\/02\/21\/wynn-massachusetts-casino-regulators\/w3OCvf8KKziNKBIJC6XSTO\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">capitulation to Steve Wynn<\/a> will &#8220;turn the board\u2019s eventual ruling on Wynn Resort\u2019s [<em>sic<\/em>] fitness into a farce.&#8221; State Attorney General <strong>Maura Healy<\/strong> has threatened to intervene in the event of an MGC cave-in, saying\u00a0\u201cThey need to do their job, they need to do it well and to do it right, and I don\u2019t care that a building\u2019s been built.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steve Wynn, meanwhile, is rumored to be flouting his two-year noncompete clause (which still has a full year to run) by sussing out real estate on the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong>. Even if he <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-21165\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Steve_wynn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Steve_wynn.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Steve_wynn-150x122.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>just buys some land, that can be construed as a violation of his severance package. As for Wynn Resorts, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/02\/27\/business\/wynn-resorts-nevada-gaming-commission-fine\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">could be a target<\/a> for activist investors, its clumsy cover-up having <a href=\"https:\/\/therealdeal.com\/la\/2019\/02\/27\/wynn-resorts-to-pay-20m-fine-for-ignoring-enabling-steve-wynns-sexual-misconduct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sent its stock from $200\/share<\/a> to $130.45\/share. On a happier note, the company has gotten serious about eliminating the risk for sexual harassment in its workplace. Executives <a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/2019\/02\/21\/steve-wynn-resorts-sexual-harassment-attack-housekeeping-staff-salon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">are now forbidden<\/a> to have spa treatments and massages. In-room manicures and haircuts have been nixed. And relevant employees have been issued with &#8220;panic buttons,&#8221; to alert security if someone gets fresh.<\/p>\n<p>We like that. It shows that Maddox <em>et cie<\/em> are serious about reversing the culture of corruption at Wynn Resorts. By contrast, the <strong>Republican National Committee<\/strong> remains in denial where Steve Wynn is concerned, all the better to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/wynn-resorts-fined-dollar20-million-over-handling-of-steve-wynns-sexual-misconduct-allegations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hang onto $1.3 million<\/a> in Wynnbux. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/white-house-intervened-in-trumps-casino-pal-steve-wynns-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">still has friends<\/a> in the <strong>White House<\/strong>, too.\u00a0\u201cThe fine needs to move the needle,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2019\/02\/26\/nevada-gaming-commission-approve-record-20-million-fine-against-wynn-resorts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> NGC Chairman <strong>Tony Alamo<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cIt needs to ring across the entire country, outside of our borders.\u201d Are they hearing anything in the corridors of power?<\/p>\n<p>* Now that <strong>New England Patriots<\/strong> owner and Friend of Steve <strong>Robert Kraft<\/strong> has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2019\/02\/22\/robert-kraft-named-in-prostitution-sting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">caught on videotape<\/a>\u00a0consorting with practitioners of the oldest profession <strong>Sheri&#8217;s Ranch<\/strong> in <strong>Pahrump<\/strong> lost no time in stating that &#8220;The <strong>NFL<\/strong> needs prostitution training &#8230;\u00a0The <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-15124\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>brothel is determined to do its part to ensure that the reputation of the NFL is never again tainted by illegal prostitution,&#8221; solemnly proclaimed the press release. &#8220;There is a rich history of athletes and sports professionals getting busted with prostitutes,&#8221; it continued. <strong>Warren Sapp<\/strong> immediately comes to mind for soliciting a pro during the 2015 <strong>Super Bowl<\/strong> \u2014 yet, for some reason, the vast majority of influential NFL figures still choose to satisfy their limitless desire for no-frills sex with an illegal hooker.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What was Sheri&#8217;s Ranch proffering? &#8220;The sex workers of Sheri\u2019s Ranch are willing to offer consultation services and proper prostitution training, for a relatively small fee, to the owners of NFL Franchises and all league employees. It&#8217;s been particularly good for minorities, particularly in helping them flex their muscle at the ballot box. Most (55%) Culinary-repped employees are female, 54% are Latino, 15% are Asian-American and 10% African-American. There hasn&#8217;t been a serious attempt to break the Culinary in years and even <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> has to pay competitive wages in order to stay non-union.
