The good news for <strong>MGM National Harbor<\/strong> was that winnings were up 4% to $64 million. The bad news is that this was <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-18908\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Maryland-Live-hotel-1-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Maryland-Live-hotel-1-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Maryland-Live-hotel-1-150x80.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Maryland-Live-hotel-1.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>driven by high-tax slots (up 11%), not low-tax table games (down 4%). National Harbor was dominant in market share, with 38.5%, compared to <strong>Maryland Live<\/strong>&#8216;s 34% and <strong>Horseshoe Baltimore<\/strong>&#8216;s 16%. Maryland Live gambling win vaulted 19%, to $56 million, while the &#8216;Shoe did $25.5 million (+3%). <strong>Ocean Downs<\/strong> jumped 12.5% to $6.5 million, while <strong>Hollywood Perryville<\/strong> was flat at $7 million. Out in the boonies, <strong>Rocky Gap Resort<\/strong> gained 9% to $5 million. Next door, <strong>West Virginia<\/strong> had <!--more-->an off month, down 3%. <strong>Penn National<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Charles Town Races<\/strong> casino had very bad luck at the tables (-25%), propelling a 10% decline.<\/p>\n<p>A neutral calendar underlined the strength of casinos in <strong>Ohio<\/strong>, up 3.5% last month. Buckeye State casinos grossed $184 million, with <strong>Hard Rock Rocksino<\/strong> leading the way\u2014perhaps for the last time\u2014with $24.5 <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-14521\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hard-Rock-Rocksino-300x151.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hard-Rock-Rocksino-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hard-Rock-Rocksino-150x75.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hard-Rock-Rocksino.jpg 316w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>million (+5%). In dollar amounts no other racino came close. <strong>Churchill Downs<\/strong>-infused <strong>Miami Valley Gaming<\/strong> surged 12.5% to $17.5 million, while <strong>Jack Thistledown<\/strong> gained 8.5% to $13 million. <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> grossed $8 million at <strong>Belterra Park<\/strong> (+4.5%) and <strong>Eldorado Resorts<\/strong> made $17.5 million (+7%) at <strong>Scioto Downs<\/strong>. Penn was up 4% ($12 million) at <strong>Hollywood Mahoning Valley<\/strong> and 5.5% higher at <strong>Hollywood Dayton<\/strong> ($11 million). As for the full-service casinos, <strong>Hollywood Toledo<\/strong> was flat at $20 million, <strong>Hollywood Columbus<\/strong> shed 4% for a $21.5 million finish, <strong>Jack Cincinnati<\/strong> was up 2.5% ($20 million) and <strong>Jack Cleveland<\/strong> down 2% ($20 million).<\/p>\n<p>On top of the unwelcome news that the <strong>Indiana<\/strong> Lege was considering increasing both the number of casinos and gaming positions in the Hoosier State came a 2% decline in casino revenue. (How much of that <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-17883\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/bluechip_exterior-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/bluechip_exterior-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/bluechip_exterior-1-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/bluechip_exterior-1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>was lost to tribal <strong>Four Winds<\/strong> one cannot say.) <strong>Blue Chip<\/strong> appears to have shaken off tribal competition, up 1% to $15.5 million, as has <strong>Majestic Star II<\/strong>, grossing $6 million (+5%). <strong>Majestic Star I<\/strong> took a 6.5% hit ($8.5 million), <strong>Ameristar East Chicago<\/strong> was flat but took home $23 million and <strong>Horseshoe Hammond<\/strong> grossed $38 million (-5%).<\/p>\n<p>Except for <strong>Indiana Downs<\/strong>, up 7% to $26 million, everyone in the southern tier had a bad month. <strong>Belterra<\/strong> booked $11 million (-4%), <strong>Tropicana Evansville<\/strong> made $15 million (-3%) and <strong>Rising Sun<\/strong> [<em>sic<\/em>] scored a measly $4.5 million, down 6.5%. <strong>Hollywood Lawrenceburg<\/strong>&#8216;s $16 million represented a 3% dip, <strong>Horseshoe Southern Indiana<\/strong>&#8216;s $20.5 million was a 7.5% plunge and <strong>French Lick<\/strong>&#8216;s $9 million was a 1% slippage. Lastly, <strong>Hoosier Downs<\/strong> was 1% off the pace at $18 million.<\/p>\n<p>Next door in <strong>Illinois<\/strong>, things were scarcely less blah, with revenues ($126 million) down 2%. Subtract a 30%, flood-imposed revenue disaster at <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Metropolis<\/strong> ($3 million) and the Land of Lincoln <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2851\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Grand-Victoria-IL-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Grand-Victoria-IL-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Grand-Victoria-IL-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Grand-Victoria-IL.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>was flattish, as they say on <strong>Wall Street<\/strong>. <strong>Rivers Casino<\/strong> led the state in both dollars ($43 million) and percentage gain (7%). <strong>Jumer&#8217;s Casino Rock Island<\/strong> was the only other gainer (2.5% to $6.5 million), while <strong>Hollywood Aurora<\/strong> was flat at $11 million and <strong>Par-A-Dice<\/strong> was also flat, grossing $7.5 million. The <strong>St. Louis<\/strong> market fared poorly, with <strong>Argosy Belle<\/strong> down 6% to $4 million and <strong>Casino Queen<\/strong> falling 9% to $9 million. <strong>Empress Joliet<\/strong> slid 5.5% to $11 million while <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Joliet<\/strong> tumbled 5% to $16 million. Eldorado had its first taste of adversity at <strong>Grand Victoria<\/strong>, down 8% to $14.5 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Missouri<\/strong> revenues where nothing to write home about either, although the Show-Me State was only down 1%. And the statewide $116.5 million gross was more impressive than Illinois&#8217;. <strong>Ameristar St. Charles<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5348\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Ameristar-KC-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Ameristar-KC-2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Ameristar-KC-2-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>was the statewide champ with $25 million (-3%), closely followed by <strong>Hollywood St. Louis<\/strong> ($23 million, +4%). Eldorado\u00a0had 4% adversity at <strong>Lumiere Place<\/strong> ($16 million), while there was some trouble (-6%, $21 million) in <strong>River City<\/strong>. Among the outlying casinos, only <strong>Isle of Capri Boonville<\/strong> had a good month (+3%, $8 million), while <strong>Affinity Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Mark Twain Casino<\/strong> was bad (-15%, $3 million) and independent <strong>St. Jo Frontier<\/strong> (-48%, $2 million) was truly terrible.<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>Kansas City<\/strong> market, Boyd again dominated, up 2.5% to $19 million at <strong>Ameristar Kansas City<\/strong> (<em>above<\/em>), followed by <strong>Harrah&#8217;s North Kansas City<\/strong> ($18 million, +15%). <strong>Argosy Riverside<\/strong> was flat at $15.5 million and <strong>Isle of Capri Kansas City<\/strong> rounded things out with a 3.5% decline to $6.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>In closing: Uff da!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gambling revenue hit a record amount in Maryland last month, up 9% to $164 million.
