This is the first time that mass-market winnings have surpassed VIP ones. VIPs left $4.6 billion behind on the felt, while mass-market players put $5.3 billion into the slots and onto the tables. This makes mass-market gambling over 51% of the Macanese total, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/macau-mass-ggr-takes-lead-in-1q19-vip-down-13pct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an unprecedented event<\/a>. The average player is getting a taste for baccarat, with mass-market action up 19.5%, bringing it to 39% of market share. Slot play ($460 million) was on the downturn, albeit a<!--more--> lucrative downturn. Electronic table games, however, are catching on, up 6.5%. At $82 million won, they still have a ways to go.<\/p>\n<p>* Back when <strong>Midnight Jim Gibbons<\/strong> was governor of <strong>Nevada<\/strong>, he discouraged the cultivation of overseas (read: <strong>China<\/strong>) tourist markets in favor of putting all the state&#8217;s eggs in the <strong>California<\/strong> basket. By 2030 he aims to make his company carbon neutral, <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-13595\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Lawrence_Ho_Melco-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Lawrence_Ho_Melco-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Lawrence_Ho_Melco-150x101.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Lawrence_Ho_Melco.jpg 318w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>to achieve zero waste\u00a0from his resort properties and to reduce emissions in a variety of categories. Melco&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Sustainability &amp;\u00a0Corporate Social Responsibility Report<\/em>, issued yesterday, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/melco-updating-face-recognition-tech-in-macau-this-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">further states<\/a> that\u00a0\u201cIn 2016, Melco became the first operator in <strong>Asia<\/strong> to deploy real-time facial recognition security systems at every entrance to our gaming areas in Macau, assisting self exclusion &#8230;\u00a0The technology uses biometric indicators to prevent restricted individuals from entering the casino floor, while complying with data privacy requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is music to the ears of <strong>Japan<\/strong>, which wants to bar as many disordered gamblers from its future casino floors as possible. Melco&#8217;s &#8220;biometric intelligence system&#8221; aims to do precisely that and is designed to interface with Japan&#8217;s <strong>MyNumber<\/strong> I.D. card. Ho has already shown off the technology in Nippon and no doubt it will make a compelling part of his pitch to land a casino in the Land of the Rising Sun.<\/p>\n<p>* <em>Sic transit gloria Okada<\/em>. The new owners of <strong>Okada Manila<\/strong> are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/okada-manilas-ggr-up-68pct-in-march-universal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">contemplating a rebranding<\/a> of the property, which bears disgraced gaming mogul <strong>Kazuo Okada<\/strong>&#8216;s name.
