Ex-CEO <strong>Mark Frissora<\/strong>&#8216;s purchase of <strong>Centaur Gaming<\/strong> continues to pay off, as it was the tentpole of <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14803\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1.png 240w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>regional-gaming performance. &#8220;On a same-store basis Regionals were down 11.5% with AC and bad weather again a factor,&#8221; wrote Combes. &#8220;Regional EBITDA down 13% y\/y excluding Centaur, given <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> weakness and bad weather.&#8221; However, he noted, &#8220;Management sounded optimistic about the outlook for Vegas in 2019, calling out the group convention and non-group room nights already on the books.&#8221; Combes thinks Caesar can offset its Atlantic City vulnerability with single-digit [2.5%] revenue growth in <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> and continued strength from Centaur&#8217;s two racinos in <strong>Indiana<\/strong>, even if the health of Las Vegas is somewhat dependent upon that of Caesars&#8217; hub-and-spoke casino network.<\/p>\n<p>Over at <strong>JP Morgan<\/strong>, analyst <strong>Daniel Politzer<\/strong> described the results as &#8220;better than expected,&#8221; with <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong> revenues up <!--more-->5.5%. In addition to gaming, food and beverage, and retail all performed well. Adverse weather was measured as shaving $17 million off regional results, while Atlantic City was down $19 million, thanks to new competition. <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8199\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/CaesarsBallysAC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/CaesarsBallysAC.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/CaesarsBallysAC-150x99.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>According to Politzer, &#8220;management noted that underlying LV Strip trends remain stable (and likely better than many investors perceive), and they will continue to utilize their casino database to fill rooms.&#8221; He likes prospects in <strong>Indiana<\/strong>, where table games have been enacted for the two Centaur properties, along with a tax reduction to 30% on gaming revenue over $200 million <em>and<\/em> sports betting. (What&#8217;s not to like?) This, Politzer estimates, could push Centaur cash flow from $200 million\/year to $250 million. Still, that was not enough to stay the executioner&#8217;s hand, with the workforce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/caesars-cutting-corporate-jobs-to-save-more-than-40m-1618261\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thrown to the lions<\/a> in the colosseum in order to save $40 million. <strong>Wall Street<\/strong> will love that, Main Street not so much.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0<strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> managed to meet Wall Street&#8217;s expectation of $391 million of cash flow in 1Q19. Wrote <strong>JP Morgan<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Joseph Greff<\/strong>, &#8220;All things <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14663\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Penn-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Penn-logo.jpg 274w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Penn-logo-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 274px) 100vw, 274px\" \/>considered, this was a pretty good result considering the horrible weather at multiple properties throughout the quarter.&#8221; <strong>Pinnacle Entertainment<\/strong> synergies are proceeding ahead of schedule, cost-wise, and the southern and western regions of Penn made up for weakness in the Midwest and northeast. Ongoing bridge construction in <strong>Lake Charles<\/strong> is expected to negatively impact results going forward and the casino closing in <strong>Tunica<\/strong> will hopefully be offset by the pending addition of <strong>Greektown Casino<\/strong> in <strong>Detroit<\/strong>. In <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong>, the approval processes for <strong>Hollywood Casino Morgantown<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Hollywood Casino York<\/strong> are said to be on track. All told, it could be a lot worse.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0According to <strong>KTNV-TV<\/strong>, the fair state of <strong>Nevada<\/strong> has been ranked the fifth-most-dangerous one for online dating. I had nothing but good experiences with it but, no longer being a Nevadan (except in spirit) perhaps I have dodged a bullet.<\/p>\n<p>* A former <strong>Stardust<\/strong> craps table has turned up on <strong>eBay<\/strong>. How did it get there? Don&#8217;t miss this once-n-a-lifetime amenity. It&#8217;s just the think to spark conversation as it sits in the middle of your living room.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Downtown<\/strong>\u00a0casinos find themselves on the outside looking as the <strong>Las Vegas City Council<\/strong> approves marijuana-consumption lounges. Just imagine the cash flow that Big Gaming is missing. And don&#8217;t tell me they won&#8217;t petition the <strong>Nevada Gaming Commission<\/strong> to revisit this issue.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"https:\/\/boingboing.net\/2019\/05\/01\/british-columbia-passes-law-pr.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">Here&#8217;s a law<\/a> it would behoove the <strong>Nevada Lege<\/strong> to emulate.
