Pritzker<\/strong>&#8216;s proposal to raise the current 30% tax rate to a 50\/50 split with the state. Video gambling interests counterpropose doubling the bet limit from $2 to $4, raising the amount of potential winnings per bet from\u00a0$500 to $1,199, and increasing the number of VLTs allowed per route by 20%. These measures, <strong>Ivan Hernandez<\/strong> of the\u00a0<strong>Illinois Gaming Machine Operators Association<\/strong> promised, would bring the Land of Lincoln $210 million more revenue in two years.<\/p>\n<p>Sports betting is also on the Illinois docket, with one proposal\u2014aimed at soothing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/ct-met-college-sports-betting-illinois-20190501-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">anxiety over point-shaving and bribery<\/a>\u2014stipulating that wagering on intrastate college games be forbidden.\u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t see a good rationale to <!--more-->do it.\u00a0From where I sit, you\u2019re just asking them to bet in a different state or with an illegal bookmaker,\u201d says <strong>Sportradar<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Jake Williams<\/strong>. If there&#8217;s a saving grace to all this, it&#8217;s that Pritzker&#8217;s taken the position that discussion of new casinos and racinos <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/local\/politics\/ct-met-pritzker-budget-sports-betting-20190222-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">be set aside<\/a>, which has to have <strong>Tom Swoik<\/strong>, industry point <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-24146\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Prtizker.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Prtizker.png 220w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Prtizker-118x150.png 118w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/>man, heaving a sigh of relief. As for Pritzker&#8217;s proposed sports books, there would be 20 of them, licensed at $10 million each (plus a $5K annual renewal) fee and given a $1.8 million tax cut for each of their first five years. They would be taxed at 20%, from which the state hopes to recoup $77 million, minimum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy members are in favor of sports betting as long as the casinos can participate in it,\u201d remarked Swoik, who has 10 constituent casinos who could qualify for a sports book.\u00a0\u201cWe think that it\u2019s one of the few markets left out there where expansion will help the industry and help the state, as opposed to additional casinos or slots at racetracks. That\u2019s just going to shift money around.\u201d Since he&#8217;s banking on sports betting to cover a hole in the state budget, Pritzker&#8217;s got a lot riding on this.<\/p>\n<p>* \u201cJust because the governor\u2019s hit the pause button doesn\u2019t mean we still can\u2019t take a look at something,\u201d said state Rep. <strong>Joe Verrengia<\/strong> (D), trying to breathe life into gambling-expansion talks that have apparently sputtered\u00a0to a <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21897\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/East-Windsor-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/East-Windsor-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/East-Windsor-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/East-Windsor.jpg 650w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>standstill. Various offers were made to the tribal owners of <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong> and <strong>Foxwoods Resort Casino<\/strong>. For instance, exclusive rights to sports betting and <strong>Internet<\/strong> gambling bafflingly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theday.com\/local-news\/20190512\/governor-tribes-werent-on-same-page-in-gaming-talks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">failed to move the needle<\/a>. So did a proposed tradeoff: Abandon <strong>Tribal Winds<\/strong> in <strong>East Windsor<\/strong> in favor of a casino in <strong>Bridgeport<\/strong>, leaving <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> out in the cold. MGM may go back to court, while\u00a0<strong>Connecticut Lottery Corp<\/strong>. and <strong>Sportech Venues<\/strong> want in on any sports betting. Making everybody happy is obviously going to be an impossible task.<\/p>\n<p>MGM agrees.\u00a0\u201cWhile we appreciate Governor [<strong>Ned<\/strong>] <strong>Lamont<\/strong>\u2019s diligent efforts to work with all parties and put <strong>Connecticut<\/strong>\u2019s interests first, our view remains, and the residents of Connecticut overwhelmingly agree, that<br \/>\nan open, competitive, transparent process is the best way for Connecticut to maximize economic benefits,\u201d it stated. While the safest course is to stick with the tribes that brung you, MGM isn&#8217;t going away without a fight.<\/p>\n<p>* <em>VitalVegas<\/em> is reporting that MGM is phasing out its free-drink system in favor of one whereby you earn booze through point tiers. Which sucks. <strong>Scott Roeben<\/strong> calls it the end of an era. We agree. For an example of a hotel company that&#8217;s going in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotelmanagement.net\/food-beverage\/wyndham-partners-doordash-for-free-delivery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">a more customer-friendly direction<\/a>, try <strong>Wyndham Hotels &amp; Resorts<\/strong>. <em>Bon appetit<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>* 25% of bettors at <strong>FanDuel Sportsbook<\/strong> in <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> actually hail from <strong>New York State<\/strong>, as do 44% of those vainly attempting to penetrate the Garden State&#8217;s geofencing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.njgamblingsites.com\/21662\/new-york-betting-new-jersey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">from across the state line<\/a>. So far, competition from <strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong> hasn&#8217;t dented New Jersey&#8217;s business but that may change when the Keystone State unrolls mobile wagering later this month.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Sands China<\/strong> is promising &#8220;an exciting whole-body, fully immersive live virtual reality experience suitable for all ages&#8221; when <strong>The Londoner<\/strong> (formerly <strong>Sands Cotai Central<\/strong>, which sounds like a traffic hub) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelpulse.com\/news\/hotels-and-resorts\/the-londoner-macao-shares-new-hotel-details-with-david-beckham.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">reopens in staggered <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-16727\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Sands-Cotai-300x189.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Sands-Cotai-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Sands-Cotai-150x95.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Sands-Cotai.jpg 625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>fashion<\/a> over the next 1.5 years.
