(The tribe <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9669\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Flag_of_Arkansas.svg_.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Flag_of_Arkansas.svg_.png 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Flag_of_Arkansas.svg_-150x100.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>responded that it would be equally prompt in building $350 million <strong>Saracen Casino Resort<\/strong>. In the meantime <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox16.com\/news\/local-news\/saracen-casino-resort-in-pine-bluff-gets-license-approval-from-arkansas-racing-commission\/2074459975\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">slots in a box<\/a> will fill the gambling gap.) They were not so clement, however, to applicants in the <strong>Pope County<\/strong> area, where support from local political powers is negligible. Five supplicants received a refund of their $250K application fee. The docket for the Racing Commission was pretty full, as it also included approval for <strong>Hot Springs<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort<\/strong> to add sports betting. That Pope County casino always seemed like a long shot and Big Gaming looks like it will be shut out of the state.<\/p>\n<p>* Speaking of which, <strong>Nevada<\/strong> is trending toward a deep shade of blue, thanks in large part to <!--more-->the composition of casino workforces and the high-intensity politicking of the <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong>. Some Big Gaming money is following suit. True, Republicans will always have a loyal friend in <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> at <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong>. However, <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-11973\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/jimmurren_t652-253x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/jimmurren_t652-253x300.jpg 253w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/jimmurren_t652-126x150.jpg 126w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/jimmurren_t652.jpg 346w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 218px) 100vw, 218px\" \/>CEO <strong>Jim Murren<\/strong> has already thrown the company&#8217;s lot in with <strong>Joe Biden<\/strong>, saying, \u201cOn the issues we care deeply about at a corporate level &#8212; diversity and inclusion, sustainability, community engagement &#8212; we have found more of an alignment with the current Democratic officials.\u201d MGM&#8217;s money is also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-06-14\/casino-chiefs-boosted-trump-but-new-generation-favors-democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">getting bluer<\/a>\u2014$404,690\u00a0 went to Democrats since, double the amount spent on\u00a0Republicans. Over at <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> it&#8217;s a similar story, with $700,799 going to Dems over the last six election cycles versus $449,821 to the GOP. Then there are the casino PACs. MGM&#8217;s slightly tilts Democratic, $1 million to $579,280 and Caesars $1 million against $825, 291. <em>Bloomberg<\/em> even found <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> tipping &#8220;modestly&#8221; blue, despite ex-CEO <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>&#8216;s constant jeremiads against anything Democratic, the highlight of quarterly analyst calls. (Neither Wynn Resorts nor its founder wanted to comment on the disclosure.)<\/p>\n<p>Rep. <strong>Dina Titus<\/strong> (D), despite being held in disfavor by the gaming industry, says its shift makes sense.\u00a0\u201cYou start talking about building walls and Muslim bans and that starts to cut into their growing market, which is based on <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-14419\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Titus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Titus.jpg 194w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Titus-112x150.jpg 112w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/>international tourism,\u201d she told <em>Bloomberg<\/em>. Mind you, the contributions of MGM and Caesars are but a couple of drops in the bucket compared to the ultra-largesse of Adelson, who poured $206 million into conservative coffers in just two election cycles. While the Sands PAC isn&#8217;t lavish\u2014$344,132 since 2009\u2014only $8,500 went into Democratic pockets. As for Caesars, it has backed both GOP winners (Gov. <strong>Brian Sandoval<\/strong>) and losers (ex-Sen. <strong>Dean Heller<\/strong>). &#8220;We&#8217;re able to work effectively across both sides and we&#8217;ve found politicians on both sides are supportive of our issues,&#8221; said <strong>Richard Broome<\/strong>, company spokesman.<\/p>\n<p>The most politically connected CEO in gaming isn&#8217;t Adelson but <strong>Full House Resorts<\/strong>&#8216; <strong>Dan Lee<\/strong>, who is married to Rep. <strong>Susie Lee<\/strong> (D), the freshman\u00a0member of Nevada&#8217;s congressional delegation. She doesn&#8217;t take her electoral success for granted, saying, \u201cNevada voters are not shy about switching votes if they believe there\u2019s a candidate who\u2019s going to deliver for them.\u201d She&#8217;s been wooed by Sen. <strong>Kamala Harris<\/strong>, Biden, <strong>Beto O&#8217;Rourke<\/strong> and Sen. <strong>Elizabeth Warren<\/strong> but is keeping her powder dry.<\/p>\n<p>* The new-look <strong>Palms<\/strong> isn&#8217;t just for high rollers now. On June 29, owner <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> will be throwing the doors open to the <strong>Universal Domino League<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Las Vegas Summer Classic<\/strong>. Who knew dominos could pave the way to big casino winnings? Prize money totals $50,000 and a 2019 <strong>Harley Davidson<\/strong> motorcycle is also up for grabs. Politics intrudes even here: The winner gets to choose the charity that will benefit from a celebrity five-domino face-off between <strong>Barack Obama<\/strong> and <strong>Hillary Clinton<\/strong>.
