{"id":24363,"date":"2019-06-19T07:45:43","date_gmt":"2019-06-19T15:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/?p=24363"},"modified":"2019-06-19T08:56:55","modified_gmt":"2019-06-19T16:56:55","slug":"station-diversifies-caesars-retrenches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/station-diversifies-caesars-retrenches\/","title":{"rendered":"Station diversifies; Caesars retrenches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Scott Roeben<\/strong> of <em>VitalVegas<\/em> continues to beat the mainstream media to the breaking stories in Sin City. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasnow.com\/news\/management-shake-ups-comp-drink-changes-on-the-horizon\/2082919419\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">His latest scoop<\/a> has <strong>Apex<\/strong> nightclub at the <strong>Palms<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9178\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/palms-pic.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/palms-pic.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/palms-pic-150x125.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>seeing a <em>coup d&#8217;etat<\/em>. <strong>Clique Hospitality<\/strong> is gone and now <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> will try running the club itself. This isn&#8217;t Station&#8217;s long suit (Remember <strong>Cherry<\/strong> at <strong>Red Rock Station<\/strong>? Probably not.), so we&#8217;ll be keen to see how the experiment works. Meanwhile, Station, don&#8217;t sell that land below\u00a0<strong>South Point <\/strong>just yet.\u00a0A <strong>Major League Baseball<\/strong> stadium is rumored for the area. Too bad for Station it bailed out of the <strong>Aliante<\/strong> area, now that <strong>Universal Studios<\/strong> is mooted to be considering a theme park in that (very remote) part of the valley. <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> must be licking its chops.<\/p>\n<p>Also, <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> is reeling back the extension of the Caesars brand into <!--more-->non-gaming properties outside of <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>. Indeed, the whole department tasked for this is said to be being dismantled. We think Caesars is premature and might want to keep the whole thing on ice until <strong>Eldorado Resorts<\/strong> arrives and decides what it wants to do with the quintessential name in gaming.<\/p>\n<p>* There was a setback in federal court this week for the <strong>Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation<\/strong>, the <strong>Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians<\/strong>\u00a0and the <strong>Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation<\/strong>. In a ruling by the <strong>United States District Court for the Eastern District of California<\/strong>, the state won a request for dismissal of a lawsuit over non-banked card games. The tribes wanted the <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5733\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/california_state_flag-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/california_state_flag-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/california_state_flag-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/california_state_flag.jpg 384w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>state to crack down on them but the court said it\u00a0wasn&#8217;t the right forum. The court ruled that &#8220;it lacked the power to require the State to enforce the law under the tribes&#8217; compacts &#8230; the court found the compacts are not the vehicle under which the tribes can force the State to enforce the law, and protect their exclusive right to offer house-banked card games,&#8221; according to a press release that tried to spin the development as a win for the tribes. Since the lawsuit was not dismissed with prejudice, the three tribes <em>will<\/em> live to fight card rooms another day. The next step is an appeal of the ruling to the <strong>Ninth Circuit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>* Housekeepers are the invisible force that keeps the hospitality industry running. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2019\/06\/why-dont-people-tip-hotel-maids\/590410\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">they are not tipped<\/a>, even though many of them are living just over the poverty line. (I plead guilty to being a stiff.) Thanks to the <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong>, hotels in Las Vegas do better than most but the better is always the enemy of the good.<\/p>\n<p>* The body count is in from <strong>MGM 2020<\/strong> and there were 1,070 casualties, 881 of them in Las Vegas. According to <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em>, the unlucky employees are confronted with a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/laid-off-las-vegas-mgm-staff-navigating-tight-hospitality-market-1687192\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tight hospitality market<\/a>.&#8221; With massive budget cuts looming at Caesars too (even though it has 450 positions open at the moment), this is a hellish time to be in the Sin City job market. Want to work in &#8220;learning delivery&#8221; at MGM? Fughedaboudit.<\/p>\n<p>* Congratulations to the <strong>Nevada<\/strong> Lege for continuing to move the Silver State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/stories\/2019\/5\/17\/1858610\/-Let-s-hear-it-for-Nevada-Bans-gay-amp-trans-panic-defenses?detail=emailLL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">into the forefront<\/a> of tolerance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scott Roeben of VitalVegas continues to beat the mainstream media to the breaking stories in Sin City.
