After a few preliminary digs at the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong>, it settles into a survey of the best places to go off-Strip. The fact that <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14794\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/neonbonepubdomain.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>aforesaid choices are obvious ones is offset by their also being good choices\u2014and values for the dollar, which is always important\u00a0to emphasize ever since Sin City ceased to be a bargain destination. The <strong>Pinball Hall of Fame<\/strong> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/articles\/2019\/06\/las-vegas-off-the-strip-best-things.html?utm_source=pmnl&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=190703\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">tops on the list<\/a>, followed by the <strong>Neon Museum<\/strong>, the <strong>Container Park<\/strong>, both <strong>Frankie&#8217;s Tiki Room<\/strong> and the <strong>Golden Tiki<\/strong>, and the <strong>Mob Museum<\/strong>, which now contains an operational speakeasy, which you can&#8217;t visit unless you know the password (<em>Paste<\/em> omits <!--more-->this useful knowledge). It&#8217;s a fact. This itinerary, which could fill up a well-spent day, will need to be revised next year when the Pinball HoF moves on-Strip. Owner <strong>Tom Arnold<\/strong> hasn&#8217;t said where it&#8217;s going but it will still be must-see Vegas, wherever it lands.<\/p>\n<p>* Scrap <strong>Reno<\/strong>-based <strong>Inland Streamliner<\/strong> from your travel plans. The bus company, which has one operational vehicle, saw its fleet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/travel\/arizona\/2019\/07\/03\/new-reno-phoenix-bus-company-racist-rules-chaotic-planning-streamliner\/1589377001\/?utm_source=azcentral-News%20Alert&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=news_alerts&amp;utm_term=news_alert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">reduced to zero<\/a> after its single bus failed a safety inspection. It was selling rides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/2019\/06\/05\/reno-company-promises-bus-rides-vegas-phoenix-inland-streamliner-reddit-german-flag-tickets\/1301466001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">even before<\/a> it had authorization to operate. Inland Streamliner operates out of a private residence in Reno, where that lone bus is parked in the yard. Company president <strong>John Wang<\/strong> made a number of pretty dodgy claims when the <em>Reno Gazette-Journal<\/em> came calling. He also had to walk back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/412302527\/SL-Contract-of-Carriage#from_embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ridership policies<\/a> that barred undocumented immigrants, non-English speakers and &#8220;social justice warriors,&#8221; as well as restricting travel by college students and professors. (Knowledge being a dangerous thing, you know.) For the moment, Wang&#8217;s one-bus company is mass-transit&#8217;s <strong>Flying Dutchman<\/strong>, inhabiting a limbo between this world and the next.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Las Vegas Metro<\/strong> has a job opening. The officer who froze for five minutes outside <strong>Stephen Pollock<\/strong>&#8216;s suite while Pollock rained death on a <strong>Mandalay Bay<\/strong> crowd, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/07\/03\/cop-who-froze-during-las-vegas-shooting-massacre-is-fired\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has been fired<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m inside the Mandalay Bay on the 31st floor.\u00a0I can <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-21998\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay-150x95.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Mandalay-Bay.jpg 625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>hear the automatic fire coming from one floor ahead, one floor above us,\u201d reported Officer <strong>Cordell Hendrex<\/strong>. And yet he did nothing. Compounding the dire situation, Hendrex&#8217;s backup was a first-day trainee. So much for the first line of defense.\u00a0\u201cI know I hesitated and I remember being terrified with fear and I think that I froze right there in the middle of the hall for how I can\u2019t say,\u201d Hendrex later wrote. Had his terror-stricken paralysis not been leaked to the media, Hendrex would still be pounding a beat for Metro. The Hyde partnership between <strong>Sam Nazarian<\/strong> and <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> was part of a dicey\u00a0relationship whereby Smilin&#8217; Sammy offloaded his <strong>Sahara<\/strong> customer database to <strong>Circus Circus<\/strong> in order to get in bed with MGM&#8217;s club business. Maybe The Naz wasn&#8217;t trying to sabotage the Sahara but he came darn close.<\/p>\n<p>* Ongoing construction at <strong>Binion&#8217;s Gambling Hall<\/strong> has exposed the original, petrified wall that was an integral part of <strong>The Mint<\/strong>. Celebrities who had their photos snapped there included <strong>Patsy Cline<\/strong>. Let&#8217;s hope it becomes a must-pose spot again.<\/p>\n<p>* Adios, <strong>Sprinkles Cupcakes<\/strong>. Evidently <strong>Linq Promenade<\/strong> wasn&#8217;t a good enough location to keep the sugar merchants in business.<\/p>\n<p>* Congratulations to <strong>Rampart Casino<\/strong> on the completion of its second parking structure, adding 450 spaces\u2014and at no charge to customers.<\/p>\n<p>* Whoops! Somebody at <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> failed to file the necessary paperwork for a Fourth of July fireworks show at <strong>Red Rock Resort<\/strong>.
