A class-action lawsuit against the casino is challenging its practices, particularly with regard to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/2019\/07\/15\/class-action-suit-alleges-encore-boston-harbor-cheats-gamblers\/AbKUA7QneS8fyppupej7BN\/story.html?et_rid=753721489&amp;s_campaign=metroheadlines:newsletter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that eternal flashpoint<\/a>, 6:5 blackjack. The suit contends that Encore is not complying with <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> law with regard to &#8217;21&#8217; rules and slot payouts. <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-15390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett-300x164.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett-300x164.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett-150x82.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Wynn-Everett.jpeg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>In the case of the latter, <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> is accused for only paying in round dollar amounts and pocketing the change. As for blackjack, Bay State rules require that 6:5 games must be played with one or two decks in the shoe but the lawsuit contends that Encore is loading up with six-shoe decks. It also asserts that, in contravention of state regulations, in which cards should be dealt face down and players are allowed to <!--more-->look at them, Encore is dealing cards face up and players can&#8217;t touch them. Concludes the filing, Wynn has imported\u00a0\u201ctraditional rules that are also favorable to the house.\u201d It stands accused of making up its own rules\u00a0\u201cto maximize the casino\u2019s advantage far in excess of that which is permitted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Encore&#8217;s response is that it is adhering to <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong>-approved rules and its slot-redemption policies are in line with state rules. As for the MGC, it says it is\u00a0\u201caware of the lawsuit and reviewing its content to determine next steps.\u201d The controversial practices certainly didn&#8217;t prevent Encore from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/2019\/07\/15\/encore-boston-harbor-took-million-gaming-revenue-during-opening-week\/wBXvCoj0UiqPPWIxqSSnSI\/story.html?p1=Article_Inline_Text_Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scoring a blockbuster<\/a> opening week, not least for state tax coffers.<\/p>\n<p>In other Wynn news, the <a href=\"https:\/\/wynnresortslimited.gcs-web.com\/static-files\/b5782973-5a07-4a4f-9379-a0edcc250175\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">investor-day pamphlet<\/a> contains photographs of four Wynn hotels side-by-side and darned if three of them don&#8217;t look identical. So it is not surprising that, with regard to the <strong>New Frontier<\/strong> site, CEO <strong>Matt Maddox<\/strong> said, &#8220;We are in active discussion and ideation. In <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>, what comes next can&#8217;t be what we&#8217;ve had, and I think it&#8217;s going to take a while to really understand what is the next great project, but we&#8217;re certainly in that process.&#8221; In other words, don&#8217;t stay up nights waiting for <strong>Wynn West<\/strong> to materialize.<\/p>\n<p>* Gaming revenues in <strong>Macao<\/strong> hit a sizable speed bump last quarter. VIP winnings were down 16%, a blow somewhat ameliorated by a 19% jump in mass-market slot revenue. The splits were as follow: <strong>Sands China<\/strong> \u2014 -16% VIP\/slots -7%; <strong>Wynn Macau<\/strong>: -14%\/flat; <strong>Melco Resorts &amp; Entertainment<\/strong>: -21%\/-5%; <strong>MGM China<\/strong>: -14%; +4%. <strong>JP Morgan<\/strong> analyst <strong>Joseph Greff<\/strong> didn&#8217;t report <strong>Galaxy Entertainment<\/strong> or <strong>Sociedade de Jogos de Macau<\/strong> numbers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It didn&#8217;t take long for Encore Boston Harbor&#8216;s first scandal to accrue.
