The latter &#8212; who used to serve on the <strong>Nevada State Athletic Commission<\/strong> alongside <strong>Lorenzo Fertitta<\/strong> &#8212; was charged with heading up the evaluation the <strong>Fertitta Brothers<\/strong>&#8216; and Colony&#8217;s offer. (Ironically, had Nave green-lit the $82\/share Fertitta offer his detractors said was too low, Station would have be in better financial shape today.) The rest is history &#8212; and a veritable mother lode of legal fees.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2469\" title=\"red_rock\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/red_rock.jpg\" alt=\"red_rock\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/red_rock.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/red_rock-150x104.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Amongst the thicket of law firms &#8212; some of whose members are racking up as much as $995\/hour &#8212; is <strong>Washington, D.C. <\/strong>heavyweight <strong>Greenberg Traurig<\/strong> (former employer of <em>\u00fcber<\/em>-felon<!--more--> <strong>&#8220;Casino Jack&#8221; Abramoff<\/strong>, although the firm would rather we forgot that). Unfortunately for Station&#8217;s unsecured creditors, Greenberg Traurig has thrown one air ball after another in its $600K worth of pleadings to presiding judge <strong>Gregg Zive<\/strong>. Station&#8217;s own lawyers, however, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegassun.com\/news\/2010\/mar\/02\/judge-warns-against-overbilling-station-casinos-ba\/\" target=\"_blank\">may be fleecing their client<\/a> to the tune of thousands of dollars in hotel billings which are then charged back to Station. In a case so convoluted it&#8217;s taking on <strong>Enron<\/strong>-like impenetrability, Station is <a href=\"http:\/\/amlawdaily.typepad.com\/amlawdaily\/2009\/12\/casinobankruptcy.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">even footing the legal bill for some of its debtors<\/a>. No wonder that even lawyers find it a baffling situation.<\/p>\n<p>Station&#8217;s lead firm, <strong>Milbank<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.com\/jsp\/article.jsp?id=1202445579020\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">stands to make the most money<\/a> off the company&#8217;s mess, having already rung up a nearly $5 million tab in restructuring assistance prior to the bankruptcy filing. The company&#8217;s business methods and even its LBO have demonstrated a lack of fiscal restraint, and that proud tradition continues into the bankruptcy hearings.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Rambis<\/em><\/strong>. Local theatre continues to be one of the true &#8220;bargain plays&#8221; (pun unintended) in Vegas. <strong>Insurgo Theater Movement<\/strong>&#8216;s premiere of <em>Rambis<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegascitylife.com\/articles\/2010\/03\/04\/ae\/stage\/iq_34537216.txt\" target=\"_blank\">is no exception<\/a>. Two chances remain to see what may be the first play ever written about &#8212; among other things &#8212; <strong>Nevada Palace<\/strong>, arguably <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvbusinesspress.com\/articles\/2006\/10\/02\/news\/news03.txt\" target=\"_blank\">the grindiest grind joint ever<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It probably belongs to any of the army of lawyers toiling for Station Casinos &#8230; or for co-owner Colony Capital &#8230; or for individual board members, including director Dr. James Nave.
