Its $48.5 million in revenue accounted for 60% of all <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> gaming revenues. That breaks down <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/wynn-resorts-everett-casino298c6dcb94-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/wynn-resorts-everett-casino298c6dcb94-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/wynn-resorts-everett-casino298c6dcb94-150x87.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/wynn-resorts-everett-casino298c6dcb94.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>as almost $1.6 million\/day in win, an amount that ought to salve the $35.5 million in fines <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> had to pay to play in the Bay State. Representing 25% of market share, <strong>MGM Springfield<\/strong> grossed $20.5 million, flat with July 2018, while <strong>Plainridge Park<\/strong>\u00a0won $12.5 million (-20%). Those Plainridge Park numbers are better than they appear, as the racino did an above-average $337\/slot\/day. Encore&#8217;s tally was $216\/win\/slot\/day and MGM Springfield took in $196\/win\/slot\/day.<\/p>\n<p>Table game win is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/2019\/08\/15\/encore-boston-harbor-gamblers-all-table-games\/Bxk7gn7RGcaXKdV3eF1J3K\/story.html?et_rid=753721489&amp;s_campaign=metroheadlines:newsletter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hauling the freight<\/a> at Encore, $27.5 million last month ($3,829\/win\/table\/day compared to MGM&#8217;s $1,314), numbers that are analogous\u00a0to <!--more--><strong>Hard Rock Atlantic City<\/strong> ($3,375\/win\/table\/day), \u00a0if short of <strong>Borgata<\/strong> ($5,300) or <strong>MGM National Harbor<\/strong> ($5,743). According to the <em>Boston Globe<\/em>, the hefty table win at Encore suggests that the company&#8217;s whale-oriented marketing strategy is yielding rewards.\u00a0\u201cEncore has done something I didn\u2019t think any casino could do: They\u2019re getting more money from people playing table games than slots.\u00a0The management of Wynn must be ecstatic,\u201d said Rev. <strong>Richard McGowan<\/strong> of <strong>Boston College<\/strong>. On its present course, Encore will come up short of Wynn&#8217;s Year One revenue projection but ahead of the state&#8217;s more-conservative numbers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-24164\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/maddox.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/maddox.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/maddox-150x113.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>Wynn Resorts CEO <strong>Matt Maddox<\/strong> told analysts he was\u00a0\u201cworking on various offers and promotions to really understand the highly competitive slot market in the Northeast,&#8221; which <strong>Lasell University<\/strong> political scientist <strong>Paul DeBole<\/strong> translated as\u00a0\u201cthere are going to be a lot more of those senior citizen bus trips coming in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The downside for Encore (yes, there was one) was that slot revenues were soft, according to <strong>Spectrum Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Joe Weinert<\/strong>. He pointed to <strong>Twin River<\/strong>, <strong>Foxwoods Resort Casino<\/strong> and <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong> as superior performers in that respect. Thanks to reader <strong>Bobby See<\/strong>, we know that slot revenue is down 11% at Foxwoods and <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12603\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/wynn005-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/wynn005-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/wynn005-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/wynn005.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>24% at Twin River, where there&#8217;s already talk of layoffs of part-time employees. (Twin River opened a satellite casino in <strong>Tiverton<\/strong> just in time for it to get steamrolled by Encore.) While they were fixating on MGM Springfield\u2014a minor threat\u2014Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun let Encore take them by surprise. Well, not entirely. We can now quantify why Mohegan Sun is so irate at not being selected for the <strong>Boston<\/strong>-area license and why it was so strategically important for Massachusetts to keep that money in-state.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, MGM Springfield President <strong>Michael Mathis<\/strong> took a sort of victory lap, saying,\u00a0\u201cWe continue to be pleased with our performance as we grew <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-15469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Michael-Mathis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"107\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Michael-Mathis.jpg 159w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Michael-Mathis-122x150.jpg 122w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 107px) 100vw, 107px\" \/>revenues and visitation in the month, notwithstanding the entry of a new competitor to the market.\u201d Still, $253 million in 49 weeks is a far cry from the $400 million MGM predicted for Year One. That&#8217;s not going to be allowed to dampen the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bZuhe2rDbi8&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first-anniversary celebration<\/a>, which will feature the <strong>New England Patriots<\/strong> cheerleaders and <strong>Aerosmith<\/strong>. But\u00a0maybe MGM should be fixating more on Springfield and why it&#8217;s underachieved and less on a <strong>Bridgeport<\/strong> megaresort.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> casino revenues were only 2% down on a same-store basis in July, which we&#8217;ll interpret as a victory. Gamblers lost $277 million, with slot revenue down 3.5% but tables up 1%. Borgata had a bonanza ($81 million), winning 37% more at the tables, driving revenues up 13.5% on flat wagering. <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-19964\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/hardrock-atlantic-city.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/hardrock-atlantic-city.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/hardrock-atlantic-city-150x95.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Borgata slots won 3.5% more on 1.5% less coin-in. Other than Borgata, the only revenue-positive casinos were the newbies, Hard Rock Atlantic City ($39 million, +18.5%) and <strong>Ocean Casino Resort<\/strong> ($19 million, +21.5%). Excepting <strong>Tropicana Atlantic City<\/strong> ($29 million, -14%), the <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> <em>menage a trois<\/em> had the worst of it, with <strong>Caesars Atlantic City<\/strong> falling 15% to $25 million, <strong>Bally&#8217;s<\/strong> tumbling 13.5% to $18 million and <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Resort<\/strong> off 5.5% to $30 million, still good for third place in the market. <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong>&#8216;s $19.5 million gross represented a 3% dip, <strong>Resorts Atlantic City<\/strong> brought up the rear with $17.5 million but was only 1% off, giving one cause to hope that the Mohegan are finally turning things around.<\/p>\n<p>On the brink of the one-year anniversary of mobile sports wagering, <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> books generated handle of $251 million, bigger than any July in <strong>Nevada<\/strong> history, according to <strong>PlayNJ.co<\/strong>m analysts. That translated to just <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-15124\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>under $18 million in revenue, once the punters had been paid.\u00a0&#8220;If there is any trouble on the horizon for\u00a0New Jersey, it&#8217;s the launch and expansion of online sportsbooks in\u00a0<strong>Pennsylvania<\/strong>,&#8221; said PlayNJ&#8217;s <strong>Dustin Gouker<\/strong>. &#8220;Pennsylvania could have as many as six online sportsbooks operating by the beginning of the football season, and some apps have worked out their <strong>Apple<\/strong> issues and are now in the App Store. Add in the natural boost that comes from football season, and Pennsylvania&#8217;s sportsbooks are about to take a giant leap forward,&#8221; added colleague <strong>Jessica Welman<\/strong>. Both the online and walk-up betting markets continue to be dominated by <strong>FanDuel<\/strong>. As for regular forms of Internet gambling, they generated $39 million last month.<\/p>\n<p>* Speaking of Pennsylvania, it began reporting Internet gambling and <strong>SugarHouse Casino<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playpennsylvania.com\/sports-betting\/revenue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">dominated with $18 million<\/a>. <strong>Rivers Casino<\/strong> fell short of the $1 million mark and <strong>Parx Casino<\/strong> was way back with\u00a0$307,011 (not <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15487\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Parx-slots.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Parx-slots.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Parx-slots-150x99.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/>everyone incepted at once). Slot-revenue data was also out and Parx was flat but still dominated with $35 million. It terms of percentage, <strong>Valley Forge Resort Casino<\/strong> was the coffee achiever, up 11% to $8.5 million. Rivers Casino gained 4% to $25.5 million, closely followed by <strong>Wind Creek Bethlehem<\/strong>, down 5% to $24.5 million. It was a long way to fourth place: <strong>The Meadows<\/strong> with $17.5 million (-8%). <strong>Hollywood Casino at Penn National<\/strong> grossed $17 million (-1%) and <strong>Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs<\/strong> won $16.5 million (-3.5%). <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Philadelphia<\/strong> slipped 8.5% to $15 million, SugarHouse grossed $14.5 million, a 2.5% slippage and <strong>Presque Isle Downs<\/strong> was down 4% to $10 million. <strong>Mount Airy<\/strong> was flat at $13 million and <strong>Lady Luck Nemacolin<\/strong> gained 5% to $3 million, one of its better months.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> seems to be doing that voodoo it does so well with <strong>Greektown Casino<\/strong> in <strong>Detroit<\/strong>.
