Could this be first step toward banning him? Should Steve Wynn ever be allowed to own a casino again? The precedent is an unflattering one: <strong>Ralph Engelstad<\/strong> and his <strong>Adolf Hitler<\/strong> birthday parties at the <strong>Imperial Palace<\/strong> (now <strong>Linq<\/strong>). Engelstad was fined up the wazoo and made to eat crow. But he kept his casino. Wynn will show no such contrite inclination. He has been not only unrepentant but <!--more-->defiant. His definitive statement on his sexual misconduct has been one word: &#8220;preposterous.&#8221; Can we expect him to bow to state gaming authorities, let alone the monumental fine that is inevitably predestined for him? In the past year and a half we have learned that <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> will get along just fine without Steve Wynn, We should consider making the arrangement permanent.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Wynn Resorts must contend with ongoing irritation in <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>, where <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/business\/2019\/10\/14\/mohegan-challenge-wynn-casino-license-revived-suffolk-court\/QUn7L2YYXcsWhjeZ9ByM9H\/story.html?et_rid=753721489&amp;s_campaign=todaysheadlines:newsletter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wants the courts to confiscate<\/a> <strong>Encore Boston Harbor<\/strong>&#8216;s license. The tribal casino<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-25110\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Wynn-Broadway-620x410-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Wynn-Broadway-620x410-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Wynn-Broadway-620x410-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Wynn-Broadway-620x410.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>contends that &#8220;the fix was in&#8221; between Wynn and the <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong>, having amended its complaint to reflect the MGC&#8217;s handling of Steve Wynn&#8217;s paternity suit, CEO <strong>Matt Maddox<\/strong>&#8216;s conduct\u00a0of the\u00a0sex scandal and the $35.5 million fine imposed on the company. Wynn Resorts rejoins that Mohegan Sun is late to the party, having filed a lawsuit on August 2 that should have been in no later than the beginning of June.<\/p>\n<p>Judge <strong>Janet Sanders<\/strong> seems content to let the suit proceed rather than make waves with the Mohegans. However, she has noted that the consequence of a pro-tribal verdict could be the closure of Encore and the loss of thousands of jobs. Also, <strong>Suffolk Downs<\/strong> having closed and being scheduled for redevelopment, Mohegan Sun is the proverbial sailor without a ship in the Bay State. However, as the <em>Boston Globe<\/em> puts it, &#8220;It\u2019s not easy to forgive and forget\u2014especially when there\u2019s this much money at stake.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Horseshoe Baltimore<\/strong> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baltimorebrew.com\/2019\/10\/07\/losing-streak-horseshoe-casino-revenues-continue-to-slide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">making headlines<\/a> in a way it would rather not. It just recorded the second-lowest revenues in its history, hardly good for a casino that has had five years to <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14276\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Horseshoe-Baltimore-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Horseshoe-Baltimore-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Horseshoe-Baltimore-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Horseshoe-Baltimore.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>become a Charm City institution and evidently failed. <em>BaltimoreBrew<\/em> pronounces it a &#8220;has been.&#8221; <em>S&amp;G<\/em> readers have repeatedly pointed to a poor choice of location as the primary &#8220;nail into the financial coffin that presently surrounds Horseshoe Casino Baltimore.&#8221; The casino bottomed out in August, the weakest month since its debut\u00a0one. September was 31% off the casino&#8217;s 2016 pace. While Horseshoe grossed $18.5 million, <strong>Maryland Live<\/strong> took in nearly $48 million.<\/p>\n<p>Former Mayor <strong>Stephanie Rawlings-Blak<\/strong>e has some explaining to do. How did an &#8220;anchor institution&#8221; become a millstone around <strong>Baltimore<\/strong>&#8216;s neck. And where&#8217;s the game-change she promised. Horseshoe isn&#8217;t going out of business anytime soon: It will surely limp forward. But it&#8217;s turning out to be one of <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s many miscalculations from the error-prone <strong>Gary Loveman<\/strong> era.<\/p>\n<p>* Nonsmokers are catching a break from <strong>Morongo Casino Resort &amp; Spa<\/strong>, which stands in splendid isolation in the <strong>Palm Springs<\/strong> area. The casino&#8217;s 65,000-square-foot expansion of its gaming floor (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.desertsun.com\/story\/news\/2019\/09\/17\/morongo-casino-renovations-expansion-underway-bringing-425-jobs\/2156625001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">nearly a third bigger<\/a>) will include a smoke-free area, along with 800 more slot machines. Reports the <em>Desert Sun<\/em>, &#8220;The tribe expects the expansion will add to the $3 billion in regional economic activity that the Morongo casino already generates.&#8221; (We like a tribal success story.)<\/p>\n<p>Morongo Casino may no longer stand alone when the tribe&#8217;s plans come to fruition: Long-term, a hotel may be on the way, along with restaurants and offices. Casino executives report that business is benefiting from a robust economy and the joint is &#8220;packed&#8221; on weekends. Meanwhile, small and original <strong>Casino Morongo<\/strong>\u2014the bingo hall that got it all started\u2014remains open and popular with customers. It must be that 24-hour <strong>Pit Stop Diner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>* The soon-to-be <strong>Las Vegas Raiders<\/strong> and <strong>Allegiant Stadium<\/strong> have a new gaming partner and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktnv.com\/sports\/raiders\/raiders-get-new-partner-for-allegiant-stadium\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it&#8217;s not from Sin City<\/a>. It&#8217;s <strong>California<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>San Manuel Band of Mission Indians<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cThe <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-25113\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/San-Manuel-Raiders-300x68.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"68\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/San-Manuel-Raiders-300x68.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/San-Manuel-Raiders-150x34.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/San-Manuel-Raiders.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>popularity of the Raiders in Southern California is unmatched,\u201d said <strong>Loren Gill<\/strong>, San Manuel CEO, a remarkable statement if you consider that the Raiders evacuated SoCal decades ago.\u00a0<strong>San Manuel Casino<\/strong>, as a part of their duties, is the stadium&#8217;s official premium ticketing and sponsorships agency. A befits an arrangement that was announced at a private event, no details are available.<\/p>\n<p>* Nov. 15 is the date appointed for shareholders of <strong>Eldorado Resorts<\/strong> and Caesars Entertainment to vote on the former&#8217;s $17.3 billion takeover of the latter. Says the company, &#8220;<strong>Citadel Builders LLC<\/strong> was contracted by <strong>Kailas Companies<\/strong>, owner of the project, to build the <strong>Hard Rock Hotel<\/strong> based on a brand licensing agreement with Hard Rock International, the future manager of the hotel. Hard Rock has had no involvement in the construction of the project.
