Las Vegas<\/strong> went into the crapper last weekend, with the opening of the Giant Poo Experience<\/strong> in Lyft Art Park<\/strong>. I’m not inventing this. The larger-than-life-size mock-excrement was sponsored by airspray Poo-Pourri<\/strong>.\u00a0Explained the company, \u201cFor over a decade, Poo~Pourri has been taking the stink and shame out of letting sh*t go\u2014literally. Now, they\u2019re teaching the world how to let go of a different kind of crap\u2014toxic thoughts. Self-sabotaging thoughts that, when held in, weigh us down, constipate our minds and hold us back from showing up as our authentic selves. I\u2019m not enough; I\u2019m behind in life; I feel jealous, I\u2019m different. By letting these types of toxic thoughts go, we gain confidence, create space for good to come in, and feel at peace to just \u2026 be.\u201d What happens in Vegas stays in the toilet, I guess.<\/p>\n

* Yesterday, in the course of removing dead links, I came across an old, old S&G<\/em> entry about Sheldon Adelson<\/strong>. Under the headline “Is Adelson Mad?”, it noted that El Bombastico was predicting he would have casino resorts in India<\/strong>, Thailand<\/strong> and Japan<\/strong> by 2010. So he’s 0-3. But he might still get that Japanese megaresort\u201415 years behind schedule.<\/p>\n

* Former Federal Reserve<\/strong> supremo Paul Volcker<\/strong> has died at 92. According to the Boston Globe<\/em>, he “broke the back of US inflation in the 1980s and three decades later led President Barack Obama<\/strong>\u2019s bid to rein in the investment risk-taking of commercial banks.” (Of the Obama administration he said, \u201cThey say they\u2019re for it but their hearts are not in it.\u201d) Clearly a force to be reckoned with<\/a>. Our condolences to his family.<\/p>\n

Jottings<\/strong><\/em>: The Las Vegas Raiders<\/strong> lost to the Tennessee Titans<\/strong> by a 2-1 margin yesterday. I hope nobody in Sin City put money down on\u00a0Raiders playoff tickets … Speaking of the NFL<\/strong>, my early pessimism about the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/strong> was misplaced. They’re 8-5 and seemingly a lock for a wild-card berth. Hey, when I’m wrong I’ll admit it … Google<\/strong> is taking ads for online U.S. casinos, in a major reversal. I-gaming can now be advertised in Delaware<\/strong>, Nevada<\/strong>, Pennsylvania<\/strong> and New Jersey<\/strong> … $1 billion. That’s how much Alabama<\/strong>‘s Poarch Band of Creek Indians<\/strong> would put on the table in return for Class III gaming and no lottery.
