That was <em>Bloomberg Intelligence<\/em> contributing analyst <strong>David Bonnet<\/strong>, taking an exceptionally gloomy view of the <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-13590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Macao-Cathedral-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Macao-Cathedral-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Macao-Cathedral-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Macao-Cathedral.jpg 407w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>world&#8217;s gambling <strong>Vatican<\/strong>. Like Atlantic City, Macao struggles to evolve beyond a daytripper&#8217;s market. Because business has been so bad for the past two years, 2020&#8217;s expected 3% revenue isn&#8217;t the stuff of banner headlines. Whales who formerly took their action to Macao are now heading to <strong>Vietnam<\/strong>, away from governmental scrutiny, and the prospect of megaresorts in <strong>Japan<\/strong> is another cause of worry. Oh, and there&#8217;s no end in sight to the protest movement in <strong>Hong Kong<\/strong>, much as Chief Executive <strong>Carrie Lam<\/strong> would like us to believe otherwise. Nor has <!--more-->the <strong>U.S.<\/strong>\/<strong>China<\/strong> trade war\u2014which <strong>Melco Resorts &amp; Entertainment<\/strong> CEO <strong>Lawrence Ho<\/strong> cites as Problem Number One\u2014eased yet.<\/p>\n<p>Junket operator <strong>Suncity<\/strong> is going into casino business for itself, opening a gambling house in Vietnam next year. And it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/suncity-manila-casino-not-a-threat-travellers-evp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">set its sights<\/a> on runaway-gambler market <strong>Manila<\/strong> next. Don&#8217;t think that won&#8217;t siphon play from Macao. Operators are looking toward the mass market, which has remained strong amidst the Hong Kong strife, and tailoring their product accordingly, as with the reinvention of <strong>Sands Cotai<\/strong> as <strong>The Londoner<\/strong>. Long-awaited light rail began service in Macao this week. The bottom line with present-day Macao is that the casino business is learning to love the proletariat.<\/p>\n<p>* $4.3 billion <strong>Resorts World Las Vegas<\/strong> will be a gamble in more ways than one. President <strong>Scott Sibella<\/strong> is banking on non-gaming amenities <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/75pct-of-resorts-world-las-vegas-rev-to-be-non-gaming-exec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bringing in 75% of revenue<\/a>. He explained, \u201cYou have to think differently <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-23186\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/resorts_world_new_rendering_jun2018_1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/resorts_world_new_rendering_jun2018_1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/resorts_world_new_rendering_jun2018_1-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/resorts_world_new_rendering_jun2018_1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/resorts_world_new_rendering_jun2018_1.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>and design differently, because not everyone is going to want to gamble. It\u2019s a different way of thinking than it was years ago.\u201d A third of the 88-acre land plot is being held in reserve for future development, which will surely be contingent on Resorts World LV coming strongly out of the gate. As for the now-deemphasized Asian theme, Sibella said, &#8220;it will have a lot of Asian inspiration when it comes to the design inside, art, the colour palletes and floors.\u201d Sibella is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/ex-mgm-bosses-hired-for-genting-las-vegas-resort-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">flanking himself with several ex-MGM executives<\/a>. <strong>MGM 2020<\/strong>&#8216;s loss will be Resort World&#8217;s gain.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Jottings<\/strong><\/em>: Despite 30 days of flood-related closure,\u00a0<strong>River Spirit Casino<\/strong> in <strong>Tulsa<\/strong> is <strong>Oklahoma<\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tulsaworld.com\/business\/river-spirit-casino-resort-named-s-most-popular-uber-destination\/article_9fe70bbc-24c3-5f12-a498-7f82494c6784.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">most-requested<\/a> <strong>Uber<\/strong> destination.
