All this comes by way of <strong>Scott Roeben<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>VitalVegas<\/em>, which pegs the sale price at $700 million, making a tiny dent in <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-12178\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/TROPICANA-VIEW-1B_LO-042010-300x206.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/TROPICANA-VIEW-1B_LO-042010-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/TROPICANA-VIEW-1B_LO-042010-150x103.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/TROPICANA-VIEW-1B_LO-042010.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Penn&#8217;s $11 billion debt overhang. As a return on investment <a href=\"https:\/\/vitalvegas.com\/tropicana-looks-to-be-first-las-vegas-casino-sale-of-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that would be terrific<\/a>, Penn having paid $360 million\u2014or roughly $10 million an acre\u2014for the Trop back in 2015. At the time Penn felt it imperative to have a <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong> presence. However, the company had difficulty ramping up business (or room rates) and upgrades\/expansions were put on hold. <strong>Wall Street<\/strong> will like this deal &#8230; a lot. Meanwhile, Penn hasn&#8217;t uttered even a hint of disenchantment with <strong>M Resort<\/strong> so we think that is safe for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>* Sign of the Apocalypse: A robotic sex toy <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/e1143b874fe71199db7772f09c38ccdc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">could win<\/a> <!--more-->Last Gadget Standing at the <strong>Consumer Electronics Show<\/strong>. (AVN, look to thy laurels!) Stranger still, it is in the &#8220;Health and Wellness&#8221; category. Admittedly, your average casino tourist <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6956\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/clouds-jesus-271x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/clouds-jesus-271x300.jpg 271w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/clouds-jesus-135x150.jpg 135w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/clouds-jesus.jpg 352w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 271px) 100vw, 271px\" \/>is rarely awake on Sunday morning (or is just getting into bed, preferably with company) but think of all those wedding chapels, standing ready for spiritual use. <strong>&#8220;Father Charlie&#8221; Urnick<\/strong> takes confession in <strong>Don&#8217;s Celebrity Theater<\/strong> and, in a canny bit of scheduling, performs the sacraments on late Saturday afternoon, a casino lull that&#8217;s well suited to a bit of spiritual fortification. Reports <em>Microsoft News<\/em>, &#8220;Father Charlie has given Holy Communion before a huge backdrop of a <strong>Skyy<\/strong> vodka bottle and images of sultry <strong>Budweiser<\/strong> girls and <strong>Elvis<\/strong>, prompting him to jokingly remind the faithful they\u2019re praying to <strong>God<\/strong> the King, and not the King.&#8221; Not that he&#8217;s above having a flutter on the penny slots in his spare time.<\/p>\n<p>Says the genial\u00a0reverend, \u201cThe pope says priests should be where the people are. There are 11 casinos in <strong>Laughlin<\/strong>, so this is where we have taken our services. And to those who might say that God could not possibly be here, I say he is.\u201d Urnick has even inherited the name the &#8220;Chip Monk,&#8221; as casino chips are accepted as legal tender during the Offertory. A <strong>New Jersey<\/strong> transplant and former <strong>Air Force<\/strong> chaplain, Urnick puts the &#8220;good&#8221; in good news, using food and humor as staples of his sermons. He added,\u00a0\u201cDon\u2019t forget to stop at our liquor stores.\u00a0We have much cheaper prices than those knuckleheads down in Massachusetts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Hampshire Lottery<\/strong> Executive Director <strong>Charlie McIntyre<\/strong> was\u00a0not\u00a0circumspect either, telling the media,\u00a0\u201cThe best kind of money is out-of-state money.\u201d (As though to add insult to injury, McIntyre is a defector from the <strong>Massachusetts Lottery<\/strong>.) Neighboring <strong>Maine<\/strong> remains\u2014pun unintended\u2014on the fence, Gov. <strong>Janet Mills<\/strong> having failed to sign sports-betting legislation last summer, putting the Lege back at Square One. If Sununu&#8217;s Super Bowl bet doesn&#8217;t pay off, the winner won&#8217;t be some other <strong>NFL<\/strong> team but <strong>DraftKings<\/strong>, which has the exclusive contract to operating sports wagering in the Granite State.<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts lawmakers, meanwhile, metaphorically yawned at Sununu. Said state Rep. <strong>Anne Margaret Ferrante<\/strong> (D) starchily,\u00a0\u201cI understand that a number of states want to rush to the market.\u00a0The real pressure is making sure that when, in fact, something is put forward that it\u2019s the right thing for the residents and taxpayers for Massachusetts.\u201d Imagine Gov. <strong>Charlie Baker<\/strong>&#8216;s frustration at having to deal with solons like that.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> casinos aren&#8217;t posting <strong>Academy Award<\/strong> odds yet but we&#8217;ll go out on a limb with our first Fearless Oscar Prediction, tipping <strong>Kathy Bates<\/strong> as Best Supporting Actress for <em>Richard Jewell<\/em>. Why? <strong>A)<\/strong> Bates does the best work of her career and, no, I&#8217;m not forgetting <em>Misery<\/em> <strong>B)<\/strong> actors in <strong>Clint Eastwood<\/strong>-directed films traditionally do well at the Oscars and <strong>C)<\/strong> the competition is weak. <em>Richard Jewell<\/em> protagonist <strong>Paul Walter Hauser<\/strong> seems a shoo-in to be nominated but odds on a win have to be pretty long as he&#8217;s certain to be going up against <strong>Joaquin Phoenix<\/strong> (<em>Joker<\/em>), <strong>Robert DeNiro<\/strong> (<em>The Irishman<\/em>), <strong>Jonathan Pryce<\/strong> (<em>The Two Popes<\/em>) and maybe even <strong>Sir Ian McKellen<\/strong> (<em>The Good Liar<\/em>).
