If there was a prop bet on when <strong>Troy Aikman<\/strong> would say &#8220;It&#8217;s getting kind of chippy down there,&#8221; (this year&#8217;s favorite football clich\u00e9) kudos to all of you who pegged it at four minutes into the fourth quarter. A last-minute surge by the <strong>Kansas City Chiefs<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-15124\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/NFL-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>blew out the 1.5-point money line on the margin of victory, though. As for prop bets, no, <strong>Jennifer Lopez<\/strong> and <strong>Shakira<\/strong> did not kiss (yes, that was a real prop bet). <strong>Pitbull<\/strong> did not take the stage at halftime (ditto) nor did <strong>Alex Rodriguez<\/strong> (ditto and what would he be doing up there anyway?). And now a moment of silence for the million dollars that <strong>John &#8220;Mattress Mack&#8221; McIngvale<\/strong> blew on the <strong>49ers<\/strong>, bringing his postseason losses to $3 million. Obviously it does not pay to bet against the Chiefs. But it <em>does<\/em> pay for sports books to take McIngvale&#8217;s action, considering his chronic inability to pick winners (remember his big <strong>World Series<\/strong> loss?). He&#8217;s as conspicuous\u00a0a mark as has come down the pike in quite a while and the books should be lining up to take his money, er, bets. Results from the books won&#8217;t be available until tomorrow but it looks like bettors other than McIngvale will have done well this year.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Pitbull (must we?), he has been announced for a residency <!--more-->at <strong>Planet Hollywood<\/strong>. Titled &#8220;Get Ready Vegas,&#8221; it ought to be called &#8220;Blink and You&#8217;ll Miss It,&#8221; as Mr. Bull will be at the <strong>Zappos Theater<\/strong> for a mingy five performances. However, since he does one (brief) residency a year, if you don&#8217;t get around to seeing Pit this year, we&#8217;re sure he&#8217;ll be back in 2021. <strong>Caesars Rewards<\/strong> presale begins Feb. 6 at 10 a.m., and will be good for performances on April 22, 24 and 25, as well as a <strong>Mexican Independence Day<\/strong> stand on Sept. 10 and 11. But it was money well spent, as it doesn&#8217;t fail to leave an impression and marks <strong>Hard Rock Hollywood<\/strong> as a must-see attraction when visiting <strong>South Florida<\/strong>. Mission accomplished.<\/p>\n<p>* In a shocking <strong>Oscar<\/strong> development, <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsbook.draftkings.com\/leagues\/oscars\/14227070?category=awards&amp;subcategory=winner-of-award#home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to<\/a> <strong>DraftKings<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/entertainment\/movies\/a30717568\/jojo-rabbit-should-not-win-best-picture-2020-oscars-academy-awards\/?source=nl&amp;utm_source=nl_esq&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;date=020320&amp;utm_campaign=nl19223704\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Holocaust comedy<\/a> <em>Jojo Rabbit<\/em> (-182) has pulled ahead of <em>Little Women<\/em> (+160) in the volatile Best Adapted Screenplay category, as <em>The Irishman<\/em> continues to fade. In the Best Animated Feature category, <em>Klaus<\/em> (+120) is literally <strong>Netflix<\/strong>&#8216;s best bet for a golden statue and the Academy could do worse (and probably will). <strong>Sam Mendes<\/strong>&#8216; prettified <em>1917<\/em>, with its spic-n-span trenches and troops charging picturesquely across green, grassy fields studded with flowers, cleaned up at the <strong>British Academy of Film &amp; Television Awards<\/strong>, strengthening its clammy grasp on Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography. If you want to know what <strong>World War I<\/strong> was really like, rent <strong>Stanley Kubrick<\/strong>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.criterion.com\/films\/27522-paths-of-glory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\"><em>Paths of Glory<\/em><\/a> (arguably his best film) or, better still, read <a href=\"https:\/\/smile.amazon.com\/Into-Silence-Mallory-Conquest-Everest\/dp\/0375708154\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=12D2XV5CZD8I5&amp;keywords=into+the+silence&amp;qid=1580741472&amp;s=books&amp;sprefix=into+the+silence%2Caps%2C177&amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Into the Silence<\/em><\/a>, which blows Mendes&#8217; anodyne\u00a0notion of the War to End All Wars\u00a0to gory smithereens.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VkUKAtzE0r0\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Speaking of the Oscars, buying an ad on them\u2014while still expensive\u2014is a comparative bargain next to the Super Bowl: $2.6 million for a 30-second spot, 54% lower than for &#8220;the Big Game.&#8221; The ceremony itself costs $44 million, no surprise when you have to pay $10 million to book an (already wealthy) A-list\u00a0actress to appear on the show, per <strong>WalletHub<\/strong>. The much coveted statuette is chump change, though, worth only $400 apiece. Just think how much money is sunk into campaigning for one of them &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finally<\/strong>, Oscar-nominated documentary <em>Edge of Democracy<\/em> is 121 riveting minutes about the rise and fall of a populist political movement in <strong>Brazil<\/strong>, with parallels to our own country that transcend ideology (there&#8217;s even a symbolic wall at one point), a tale that will leave you thanking the heavens for our legal system. Current President <strong>Jair Bolsonaro<\/strong> is pro-casino but comes across here as a complete, authoritarian butthead.
