His REIT has <a href=\"https:\/\/therealdeal.com\/2020\/05\/10\/tom-barracks-colony-capital-defaults-on-3-2b-in-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">defaulted on $3.2 billion in loans<\/a> secured by 157 hotel and healthcare properties. That&#8217;s three-quarters of his holdings. Prior to Colony&#8217;s collapse, Barrack had demanded that taxpayers infuse <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3060\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/thomas-barrack-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/thomas-barrack-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/thomas-barrack-150x105.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/thomas-barrack.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>the financial sector with $500 billion in bailouts. Too late. Now Colony will have to tap its $1 billion cash on hand and $600 million credit line. Why does <strong>Wall Street<\/strong> keep lending to this boob? Perhaps because he&#8217;s got <a href=\"https:\/\/therealdeal.com\/la\/issues_articles\/tom-barracks-capitol-gains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">privileged access<\/a>\u00a0to the <strong>White House<\/strong>. He&#8217;s also a sexist, a boor and an enabler of terrorist states like <strong>Qatar<\/strong>. In case you&#8217;re a latecomer to our program, Barrack was one of the prime actors in the Great Casino Crash of 2008. His mismanagement cost the <!--more--><strong>Las Vegas Hilton<\/strong> and <strong>Atlantic City Hilton<\/strong> their flags, cratered several other casinos in <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> and <strong>Mississippi<\/strong> with reckless leveraging, and took his shareholders to the cleaners with a 72% stake in the <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> LBO, a position that was completely wiped out when Station went bankrupt (as even an idiot should have seen coming). If you&#8217;re Barrack, what goes around keeps coming around &#8230; and around &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0Could <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> have flirted with a BYOB (bring your own bedsheets) policy? Someone window-shopping for <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-14803\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1.png 240w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/caesarscasino_1-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>hotel rates reported the following on the Internet: &#8220;For example, when you go to <strong>Expedia<\/strong>&#8216;s page for [<strong>Paris-Las Vegas<\/strong>], click on a room&#8217;s &#8216;More details&#8217; link. A window opens &#8211; scroll down to &#8216;Need to know&#8217; and you&#8217;ll see it: &#8220;bed sheets not available.&#8217; This was on several strip hotel pages.&#8221; We went to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Las-Vegas-Hotels-Paris-Las-Vegas-Resort-Casino.h200710.Hotel-Information?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">the page in question<\/a> and did not find any such disclaimer. Perhaps it was a trial balloon that got scrubbed due to adverse customer reaction. Who knows? We could understand such a precautionary impulse, if such there was, but asking <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> tourists to bring their own, custom-fitted sheets seems like it might be one disincentive too many.<\/p>\n<p>* Following a 60-day closure, <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Cherokee<\/strong> and its satellite casino will reopen May 18 in phased fashion. According to Harrah&#8217;s, &#8220;Areas such as the gaming floor, hotel and some restaurants, where social distancing <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14010\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Harrahs-Cherokee-Valley-River-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Harrahs-Cherokee-Valley-River-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Harrahs-Cherokee-Valley-River-150x81.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Harrahs-Cherokee-Valley-River.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>can be practiced will be the first to open, with significant limitations on occupancy.&#8221; Spas, poker rooms, buffets and event centers will remain closed for the time being. In a novel twist, the reopening will be by invitation only, with small groups of customers receiving e-mails on May 13. &#8220;The number of invitations may increase over time as it becomes appropriate to do so.&#8221; This does not apply to members of the <strong>Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians<\/strong>, who will have free rein. Employees will wear masks, after having to pass a questionnaire and temperature check. Sounds like they&#8217;ve thought this through pretty carefully.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0Guess the <strong>Hawaii<\/strong> market isn&#8217;t a sure thing. <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong>&#8216;s reopening plan conspicuously <a href=\"https:\/\/vegas.eater.com\/2020\/5\/11\/21254610\/boyd-gaming-may-not-reopen-las-vegas-casinos-cal-main-street-station-fremont-coronavirus-pandemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">omits Downtown<\/a> (undoubtedly much to Mayor <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4474\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/california-pic.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/california-pic.gif 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/california-pic-150x100.gif 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><strong>Carolyn Goodman<\/strong>&#8216;s chagrin). No <strong>Fremont Hotel<\/strong> or <strong>California Hotel<\/strong> or <strong>Main Street Station<\/strong> (and the non-Boyd <strong>Fremont Street Experience<\/strong> will remain quiet). But it will be business as usual at <strong>The Orleans<\/strong>, <strong>Sam&#8217;s Town<\/strong>, <strong>Aliante Hotel<\/strong>, <strong>Gold Coast<\/strong>, <strong>Suncoast<\/strong>, <strong>Eastside Cannery<\/strong> and <strong>Cannery<\/strong>. Explained CEO <strong>Keith Smith<\/strong>,\u00a0\u201cThose retirees [that] didn\u2019t have a job before this started, don\u2019t have a job now. They still have their income.\u201d \u00a0He expects locals business to be much as it was pre-<strong>Coronavirus<\/strong>. We&#8217;re not sure about the rush to reopen Eastside Cannery, as it is largely redundant with next-door Sam&#8217;s Town. Why not phase it back in?<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Jottings<\/strong><\/em>: To raise cash, <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> is issuing notes and selling shares, all to the tune of $500 million. Wall Street reacted adversely to the news &#8230; If you&#8217;re an employee of <strong>Venelazzo<\/strong>, you&#8217;ll have to be tested for <strong>Covid-19<\/strong> before you can return to work. Markantonis<\/strong> &#8230; <em>VitalVegas<\/em> author <strong>Scott Roeben<\/strong> snagged a <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> internal memo that reads,\u00a0&#8220;Not set in stone and certainly subject to change, but we are pushing for and prepping for a reopening date of 5\/26.
