Now you can. In a well-meant directive that seems to be sowing a certain amount of confusion, the <strong>Nevada Gaming Control Board<\/strong> stated that during the current Phase I, casinos could reopen their restaurants\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.8newsnow.com\/news\/local-news\/gcb-casino-restaurants-may-reopen-during-phase-1-if-requirements-are-met\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">provided they leap several hurdles<\/a>. One of the most difficult will be to provide access to the eateries <a href=\"https:\/\/www.8newsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2020\/05\/GamingControlBoard51420-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">without customers setting foot<\/a> on the (closed) gaming floor. This holds true for restrooms as well. After all, it is a shibboleth amongst the industry that you must <!--more-->frog-march your patrons across the casino floor to get to <em>anything<\/em>. We foresee a lot of stanchions and caution tape going up. It&#8217;s nice of Gov. <strong>Steve Sisolak<\/strong> (D) to try and throw some F&amp;B revenue the casinos&#8217; way but, judging from one online discussion, there&#8217;s a lot of head-scratching as to how this is going to be implemented.<\/p>\n<p>* Unfortunate <strong>Rampart Casino<\/strong> employees received <a href=\"https:\/\/vegas.eater.com\/2020\/5\/14\/21258922\/rampart-casino-layoffs-recorded-phone-call-coronavirus-pandemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the following robocall<\/a> from General Manager <strong>Michelle Bacigalupi<\/strong>: \u201cWe\u2019ve made the very difficult decision to terminate your employment. We\u2019ve tried to <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-7181\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/rampart-pic-new.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/rampart-pic-new.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/rampart-pic-new-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>retain our entire team. However, with the continued uncertainties, we are no longer able to do so.\u201d That&#8217;s cold. \u201cAs we look to the immediate future, and the reopening of the company operations, we expect business demand to be significantly decreased for the foreseeable future,\u201d Bacigalupi continues. The mass sacking is effective today and we have to say this is the most cowardly way we&#8217;ve seen any casino&#8217;s employees treated since the pandemic began. Shameful. Don&#8217;t ask us for a job reference, Ms. Bacigalupi.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0The <strong>Hard Rock Hotel<\/strong> is dead, long live the Hard Rock. This week <strong>Hard Rock International<\/strong> (not to be confused with the former owners of the HRH, <strong>Juniper Capital<\/strong>) has bought\u00a0\u201cexclusive full rights to memorabilia, signage, and merchandise, along with intellectual property rights for affiliated <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2649\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/HRH-LV.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/HRH-LV.jpg 230w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/HRH-LV-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/>restaurant and entertainment trademarks and website domain names\u201d in Las Vegas. This doesn&#8217;t mean that <strong>Virgin Hotel<\/strong> is on the way out, simply that HRI <a href=\"https:\/\/vegas.eater.com\/2020\/5\/14\/21258790\/hard-rock-hotel-comeback-las-vegas-intellectual-property\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can develop a Hard Rock-branded casino<\/a> anywhere in <strong>Clark County<\/strong>. The timing is propitious, too, as it&#8217;s entering a buyer&#8217;s market. <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> has long since signaled it wants to sell at least one Strip property\u2014and <strong>Planet Hollywood<\/strong> would be right in Hard Rock&#8217;s wheelhouse\u2014and the <strong>Tropicana Las Vegas<\/strong> is in play, as is <strong>The Cosmopolitan<\/strong>. Heck, even <strong>MGM Growth Properties<\/strong> might decide to lower its exposure to the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong>. Then again there&#8217;s the on-again\/off-again <strong>Drew<\/strong> and perpetually troubled <strong>Sahara<\/strong>. And yes, HRI gets the giant neon guitar as part of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>* Online-ticket sales have been the salvation of the <strong>Georgia Lottery<\/strong> in the time of <strong>Coronavirus<\/strong> and other states may follow suit. For instance, <strong>Oregon<\/strong> has seen retail lottery sales plunge 70%.
